It's a fantastic read. One of my favorite quotes: "With all that we've done as a family, I hope I can stay at Xavier for a long time and finish my final run here." It's so good to have Sean back.

An amazing article and fantastic job by Norlander.
And this was the most significant passage in that piece to me:
Duke wins 71-64. Postgame is obviously subdued. Few people say a word before Miller again stands before the team. The Lord's Prayer is repeated once more. After some quick evaluation, Miller puts it bluntly to the guys.
"Xavier's gotten off the rails," he says. "I'm only here for one reason and that is to put things firmly back on the f---ing tracks."
He speaks fervently, desperately of playing with consistent spirit, energy. Playing with each other, having common goals.
"These aren't little things," Miller says to his team. "They are THE thing."
He doesn't see a group -- yet -- fully committed to playing for the win and for the team at all costs. Guys who can look any player in the face and say that's what their objective is all about. But, he says, that's why he's here. And Xavier will get there.
Sean’s got his work cut out to take out the trash of before, but he’ll do it.

So telling - Steele was running a fraternity house where he wanted to be the most liked.
If Miller wasn't available, would Steele still be our coach?

And there in lay the problem. Wanting to be the “most liked” is a sham. Being the “most RESPECTED” is where it’s at.
I can answer the question- that unequivocally No. From the horses mouth. Steele was gone no matter what at the NIT.

I'm honestly thinking of making a pilgrimage down to Freedom Hall in a week when Miami plays against Bellarmine. I expect Miami and Steele to get humbled big-time by Scott Davenport's group of merry men.
EDIT: It's two weeks - no conflict with any Xavier games (the night after the BE opener at Georgetown)

But getting back to the current Xavier team, how the Musketeers do against teams like West Virginia and Seton Hall in the next few weeks will be telling.
Especially The Hall game - that was one of the games that brought out the boo birds last year. And for very good reason.

Excellent.
Good knowing X offense is coming from Few and Arizona partly. Only the best for X. We also get the best version of Miller.

Great article indeed! Sean has some damage to repair from the previous regime but he'll get it done. Look out Big East!

Steele vs Davenport is a 5th grade arithmetic student vs a Nuclear Physisist.
I hope it’s on TV somewhere!

I wonder if Miller's "guys" have faster foot speed, and clearly know how to be defenders for his future X rosters. He loves toughness, and defense but he also adds some offensive power in 2-3 players per 5 on a starting lineup.

I went back and read this article again - it really does point a finger at the last regime. There are several subtle jabs about togetherness, toughness, opinion of current players, and the not so subtle jab about being off the rails.
I would have loved to hear what was being said behind closed doors from guys like Byron Larkin, the current AD, prominent donors, members of the board, etc. when they knew this thing was headed off the rails. They had to have had these thoughts about year 2-3 like all the fans did - it became rather obvious Steele was in over his head.

The answer to your question is YES. Absolutely.

The very common refrain you heard from many of the types of people you're listing was "This isn't Xavier basketball..."
