"Finally: Musketeer Madness noted this past summer that Steve Thomas turned 80. Can somebody get his jersey hanging at Cintas?
His 30 ppg. average without a three-point shot in 1964 is one remarkable basketball feat. He was that good!"

I posted this line at the bottom of a lengthy post earlier today on the football thread. I realized that such posting gives short credit to one of the greatest basketball players in Xavier history. His junior season when he averaged 30 ppg. with neither a three-point goal nor a shot clock in effect was unbelievable. A knee injury shortened his senior season but based on his junior season, his jersey should be hanging at the Cintas Center.

Anyone who can recall seeing him play knows of what I speak. Impossible to believe that he now an octogenarian but he is still with us and richly deserves the honor. I don't know the mechanism to get this done but I would love to nominate him.

Anyone know the process?

Number 10 should hang twice, then retired.

-Steve Thomas
-Romain Sato

Who cares if that is unprecedented? We’re Xavier. We can do whatever the hell we want.

Well they would be retiring the NUMBER so it COULD have more than one name associated with it. I like it. It's unique and a little cool honestly

I was on a college trip @ Schmidt when Steve put 50 on Detroit. Who knows how many he would have got from the 3 pt. line. Follwed it up with my first trip to Dana's.

Yankees retired #8 twice (Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra)

I would have loved to have seen some of his incredible performances. I’d settle for a mashup of X sharpshooters from the past 60 years that include players like Steve, Byron, Chalmers, Crawford, Tu and Trevon.

I too was fortunate to have my Xavier journey start with a bang. My college days at X began with the 1987-88 team lead by Byron, Stan, Jamal, Tyrone, Derek, J.D. Barnett and M. Davenport. They finished 26-4, 1st in their conference and 18th in the AP. Not bad for that little Eggsavier of Ohio team from the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.
