It was just a matter of time before we started seeing articles questioning X for hiring Sean.

I was a little surprised that several BE assistants (even if remaining anonymous) chose to comment.

Are they attempting to make Book look the victim here?

Kelvin Sampson doesn't get enough credit for all of the good he did for Xavier basketball.

Possibly the slipperiest there is. He just moves on to the next school and does it again.

Bruce Pearl was suspended last season for 2 games for the same infraction Sean Miller is being accused.

It doesn't mean they will get the same punishment but I think it is worth mentioning.

If Book were a top assistant he would probably have a job right now. The reality as I understand it is that Book was more of a recruiter than full fledged assistant coach, and he got popped in an FBI investigation around recruiting practices. That's going to make it harder to get a new job than a guy like Sean Miller with a record as a head coach. All that shit is essentially allowed now anyways.

The New York Post can, as always, get fucked.

I'd bet the BE assistants who commented were from Butler. The choir boys of college basketball.

The FBI never found anything at all on Miller and Book acted 100% on his
own - basically pocketing money for things he couldn't and wouldn't
provide. Sure, Arizona fired Miller to save face and, honestly, because
he wasn't really getting the job done so many alumni were unhappy with
him. But this is ancient news and there's no reason at all that Xavier
should care what happened with Miller at Arizona. They're VERY
fortunate to have him back, especially considering they're the
conference they're affiliated with. He's still easily one of the top 5
recruiters in the game and an above average game coach and a good developer of
talent."

To quote Bob Huggins "Just because you broke an NCAA rule doesn't mean you did anything wrong." Giving money to kids to play for you, that is encouraged in every other industry but ours.

It's OK now in our industry if you have the NIL agreement.

Book is the victim and was able to play the race card . That’s the irony,” Richardson said. “I look at it like this: In every dark cloud there is a silver lining. … I’m not saying [NIL] wouldn’t have happened anyway, but this thing that happened to the four black assistants, it expedited it.”

If Xavier could get away with it, I’d be thrilled to have those coaches and the success they have. Granted if Sean wasn’t hired I was all for bringing in Pitino if he’d guarantee 6 years.

So much class, though.

Butler fans just awarded themselves the classiest program in the Big East for the 10th consecutive year. This streak may never be broken.

I think we'll start to see a few of these articles, but I'm also starting to realize that they won't cause the tidal waves that I initially thought they would. Just some mere ripples. No one cares. No one really thinks or feels any differently today than they did last week before the article came out. Xavier fans probably care, and maybe a few others, but no one else really does. Not saying that's good, bad, both, or neither. I'm just saying that for most of college basketball fandom, the water has now gone under the bridge.

I agree.

It doesn’t really seem like most fans care so much anymore - especially now with NIL in play. I would imagine sports writers will stop once they realize they learn college bb fans feel it’s a non-issue at this point.

The thing I find more interesting is the one BE assistant coach who said he and his entire office (which sure sounds like the head coach at that school too) can’t believe he has a job and the other assistant saying that X hiring shows “winning trumps all.” It’s going to be interesting to watch the post game handshaking come conference time. Since they remained anonymous, it just means we’re going to have to kick every BE team’s ass on the court.

Then again, could it have been a Creighton coach? Their fanbase also views us as The Evil Empire and as a supposed archrival of sorts. This board isn't going to be viewing Creighton as our main rival anytime soon (unless we're talking baseball).

The plantation coaching staff has something to say about whether someone else has a job? That would be rich, especially since Creighton got nailed for the same scandal.

Pitino is the worst. Miller is no choir boy, imo, and I am thrilled he is back, but Pitino makes anyone look clean.

Book is a bitch.

I'm a little confused on all the hate on book. He clearly states Miller did not throw him under the bus (which I am not even sure is entirely true, lol) and he is glad Miller is back in coaching.

Others are questioning Miller, Book isn't.

D-West & PO-Z

Sure, there are net negative players that exist on all teams. That’s not the issue. You’d expect to see those players spending most of their time on the bench. It’s the player who is pretty consistently a net negative on the court and still getting significant minutes that’s the problem. Someone whose multiple poor decisions and even poor shooting in a game are causing critical momentum swings (6+ point swings) and making it that much harder for their team to come out victorious.

To your point, Hunter could be a net negative. If Miller is seeing more of the same from him this season, it’s hard to believe he will keep Hunter on the court as much as Steele did. Then again maybe, just maybe Miller has been able to help Hunter play smarter. If so it would say quite a lot about the effect of Steele on players.

Think this response made it into the wrong thread?

Yeah I doubt it was Creighton, or Butler bc Thad and Sean have a relationship.

DePaul? (who is even their head coach?)
Providence?
Seton Hall?

Who knows.....
