I just can't get a good grasp on which of our current players will be playing their last year of college ball. Isn't Souley Boum the only one?

Can somebody post a possible roster for 2023-24 if no one transfers?

If Freemantle, Colby Jones, and KyKy all stay for next year (and they will have the option to stay), here is what the roster will look like:

NO. NAME YR. POS. HOMETOWN / HIGH SCHOOL
1 Desmond Claude Fr. G New Haven, Conn. / Putnam Science Academy
3 Colby Jones Jr. G Birmingham, Ala. / Mountain Brook
4 Cesare Edwards So. F Hartsville, S.C. / Hartsville
12 Kam Craft Fr. G Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Buffalo Grove
15 KyKy Tandy Sr. G Hopkinsville, Ky. / University Heights Academy
22 Dieonte Miles Jr. F Walton, Ky. / Walton-Verona
32 Zach Freemantle Sr. F Teaneck, N.J. / Bergen Catholic
34 Elijah Tucker So. F Canton, Ga. / Cherokee

So, Nunge, Hunter, Kunk and Boum are gone for sure? I know I read somewhere that Nunge and/or Hunter could still have one more year citing their injury history.

Add Trey Green if he signs his LOI.

That roster, as it stands, will get pounded physically in the BEast.....UNLESS something big emerges out of our current underclassmen.

No matter how you slice it, Coach Miller will definitely need to find legitimate frontcourt muscle in the Portal.

Are you sure about that? I thought I read somewhere that AK and Boum are the only two players who will exhaust their eligibility this year.

My understanding as well.

I pulled that list from the current Xavier roster. After digging a little deeper, it appears both Nunge and Hunter had 2 red shirt years at their previous schools. It is tough to confirm, but I believe both will have one more year to use after this upcoming season.

That would change everything. Hopefully, they both want to extend their education and would happily play to take advantage of the free tuition.

Unless Xavier starts offering a doctorate program, I am not sure how many more initials Nunge can add after his name for his graduate degrees.

Interesting, can you elaborate more?

I'm thinking if there is any chance of no possibility for him to add to his degree, he couldn't play if he wanted to. He would not be enrolled.

Blum and Kunk are the only ones that will run out of NCAA eligibility at the end of this coming season.

Also, are you sure this year's incoming class will have 5 years of eligibility?

I was being a little bit facetious as I am sure there are more classes he could take.

He graduated in 2021 from Iowa with a degree in accounting. This will be his second year in Xavier's MBA program, which is a 16 month program for full time students. I guess he could add a Master of Science in Accountancy if he wants to come back for a third year of graduate school, but it seems like he will be well set to start making money playing basketball or as an accountant after this season. I guess the counterpoint is that college is a lot of fun, so why give up free fun to dive into the rat race of working for a living.

I had more fun in college than should be allowed. Nevertheless, I was (stupidly) quite ready to move on and start making some money by the end of senior year.

Nunge also got married this summer. There are very few (if any) people who expect him to return next year for all the reasons you provided.

I don't care about reasons, I'm a selfish bastard.

Sure, I would like to see Nunge return for 23-24 for the obvious basketball "reasons" but I would most like to see Xavier put it in the press notes that he is to be called Dr Nunge during broadcasts.

Now that our future is coming into focus, 2023-24 is definitely food for thought.

What do y'all think is the most likely starter to be rostered in the fall of '23?

Colby, Zack, or Jack?

I think we will have a completely new starting 5. Of course, there could be a slim chance one the freshman may start towards end of year.

Also, would be shocked if any one of those 3 returns next year. Just going enjoy them play this year.

I agree that Nunge returning is highly improbable, but you think Jones will go pro? Freemantle to transfer/Europe or simply decline to use his Covid year?

I have a feeling Sean knows who will not be returning next year (not including transfers). The 23 class will give us an idea how many will not use up all of their eligibility at X.

True. Looking at who and how many they are seriously pushing for will be a big tell.

It will be nice to get back to the standard 5 years to do 4 again. Other than the new transfer rule it made predicting these things and analyzing recruiting so much less confusing, for us and the admin.

Well, if Colby, Zach and Jack all move on, our upper classmen would consist of Tandy, Miles, Edwards and possibly Hunter. That is NOT going to fair well in the BEast.....barring a couple of those guys just blowing up big time OR our '22/'23 recruits end up being complete home runs.

IMO, with the possibility of losing our top 6 rotation guys, success will certainly hinge on striking gold mining the Portal.

Yes think Nunge is going on with his life. If Colby lives up to expectations, he will be going pro. Freemantle is a bit of a wildcard. I could see him playing overseas or transferring to a more tournament ready team. X will have such an unknown squad after this year and really can’t blame him.

These are just my thoughts and really looking forward to this year’s team. As Phan mentioned, sure Sean has a lot better grasp on things than any of us. We can always pull a Creighton in 23-24, but until then…

Personally, I would be a little disappointed if X looked like a squad in rebuild mode this time next season. My expectations are that Sean and staff will keep pulling in strong talent at all positions and have the team looking very solid going into next season. It does seem like the team needs to land another high-level (and athletic) big - even if they have to find that recruit overseas.

If Colby builds on his draft status, he is going to take advantage.

I would think Miller recognizes that ZFree would be a invaluable leader on what will certainly be a very young squad, and convince him to stay......so much unfinished business for Zach. If he stays, everything looks much more positive.

100% Agree. X should be re-loading every year and portal makes it possible to target specific needs. Some years may disappoint, some may surprise but with Miller here, I expect X will compete to win B.E. every year.

I think it will take a couple years for Miller's X men to recruit the elite. Hoep NCAA appearance is teh minimum next year. Freemantle in a 5th year would be great in 23/24

I guess you only consider 5 Star recruits "Elite". Personally, I am thrilled with Green and Ducharme.
