Xavier Athletics announced John Higgins as the new men's soccer head coach on Monday afternoon. Higgins joins the Musketeers from the University of Indianapolis where he compiled a 150-56-29 overall record in 12 seasons with the Greyhounds.

He Looks good. Follows what Greg C told me last year before he hired the M Golf Coach. Unless they were a guaranteed slam dunk superstar like Breana Patz who is the excellent Women’s Golf Coach and a former X player, he was done hiring assistants. Only experienced Head Coaches with a track record.

Greg’s been a busy boy these last two weeks!

Not sure how good Virginia is this year but I think traditionally they are a good program. First win for Higgins last night 1-nil

Nobody noticed that Xavier tied #3 Akron 0-0 over the weekend? Xavier is technically leading the undefeated Zips in the Big East Midwest Division because Akron ties so many games instead of winning (9-0-5 overall and 2-0-3 in the Big East).

That's fantastic news!

The Big East and the The Heidt Family Champions Center certainly have made a difference in X athletics.

Separate conversation but on the women’s side, the soccer team is nationally ranked and 10-2-3 . Great to see both sides excelling.

I went to the first half with my kids. First time at a Xavier soccer game and the older one especially had a great time.

Volleyball team has also had a nice start to league play with a win against a Top-20 Creighton team and a game out of first place. They got a big one coming up against Marquette this weekend.

Xavier's men seem to have forgotten how to win, but luckily they have remembered how to tie. Three straight ties now, so they're 3-1-3 and continue to lead the Big East Midwest thanks to Creighton knocking off Akron (and Akron tying Marquette for their fourth Big East draw).

On the women's side, there are no divisions (I guess because there's no Akron on the women's side), so the 5-0-4 Muskies are in second behind 6-0-4 Georgetown. The 12-2-4 overall Muskies are ranked #20 by the coaches and #25 by Top Drawer Soccer this week.

Also no Akron on the women's side because the MAC sponsors women's soccer. They don't sponsor men's soccer.

Xavier women win a share of the big East crown. Second straight unbeaten big East season. “ only one thing left to do… win the whole fucking thing.”

Xavier also gets the #1 seed by virtue of a win against UConn; Georgetown tied UConn earlier this season.

Xavier locked up the #2 seed in the Big East tournament and gets rewarded with....Akron. That's pretty rough. Saturday night at 7:00 at home for X.

The women, meanwhile, are ranked #17 and play Villanova in the Big East semis in Maryland tomorrow night.

Akron had a bunch of ties that knocked them down to the 7 seed. Pretty sure the men (unlike the women) need the auto-bid to go dancing.

The women are headed to the be championship match on Sunday after a 2-0 win today. They’ll play the winner of Georgetown or UConn.

Either way I think the women are going to be in line for a couple of home tourney matches

Xavier wins!

Akron brought in a guy with two minutes to go, and he apparently got a red card as time expired. Like to know what that's about!

Akron is ranked #21. Can a team come in 7th in the Big East and get an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament?

Please tell me that red card (and there were actually two that went to Akron) was because someone yelled "Zip Em Up!"

Women didn't win yesterday, but Xavier is the #4 seed in the West region hosted by UCLA. They get a rematch against Tennessee in the 1st round and would host either #5 Nebraska or South Dakota State with a 1st-round win.

Georgetown got a #3 seed in Clemson's region and Providence also got an at-large bid. In total, not a bad haul for the Big East.

Men move on to the Big East championship with a 1-0 win against Providence in the semis. They'll play either Georgetown or UConn on Sunday at 11 AM (FS1).

Looks like Xavier lost 3 times this year: once to UT-GRV, once to current #1 Marshall and once to current #3 Georgetown. Not sure if UT-GRV is any good, but pretty impressive to beat or tie everyone else.

Looked it up, and UTGRV is actually horrendous, so that may be the loss that keeps Xavier out if they can't win Sunday. Georgetown would help the RPI. UConn would give X a better chance to win!

Xavier can now potentially host the first three rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Top-seeded UCLA lost their opener to UC-Irvine.

Women open up against Tennessee at Corcoran Field at 4 PM today. Game will also be televised on ESPN+.

Mannell also made a penalty kick in the 5th round against the Georgetown keeper.

Big win in that Xavier probably doesn't get a bid if they lose.

Western Michigan is better than Duke, so I expect Xavier to see them in the round of 16 once the Muskies knock off the Wildcats and Irish!

Figured it was a bad sign that no one had updated this thread. So I checked the score and....confirmed. Kentucky knocked our Muskies out 2-0.

Note that Kentucky reps the Sun Belt in soccer because the SEC is too poor and cannot afford to sponsor men's soccer.
