I would bet against that. There are still games to be played. The staff is actually down by one coach right now and are probably still putting in 18 hours a day prepping for games. I assume Miller would know this and stay out of their way. Normally, a new coach may spend some time to get to know the guys and make a methodical decision on if they can stay. In addition, you presume they all WANT to stay. Alot of assistants move on each year to get new perspectives.

Also, have we ruled out that Hayes just may prove himself to be a Head Coach by winning the NIT? Who says he wouldnt get offered the lead job somewhere???? Whay would he commit to being an assistant here, now?

Now, since I am not the NCAA, who knows what will happen? I don’t know why, but I always assumed ex would get punished more harshly than other schools. After everything else,wouldn’t it be something to find out X is significant enough to get the kid-gloves treatment from the NCAA?

He's got a lot to focus on for next year and the future, there's literally no benefit to him coaching the team in the NIT, or even announcing coaching hires and interfering with guys still coaching this year's team.

Let them finish it out before telling guys they don't have jobs here next year, even if they know it already. Would be a bad look.

The extensive amount of due diligence they completed, including all the calls made to Arizona with its administration, and even the initial "eye to eye" serious discussion in Atlanta with Sean should tell us everything we need to know about how effectively Xavier vetted this situation - very effective, obviously.

He was a man who loved Xavier when he left it the first time. He returns with the Cintas Center that much nicer, the University that much more developed - Hoff Quad, Fenwick Place, Champions Center and the HUB - and, very importantly, the A10 kicked to the curb in favor of the Big East. Nicest "Buick" available, assuming it's still a Buick.

Before today, I was 90% sure that this was the right hire. I still had some concerns about whether Sean really was prepared and ready to be the guy most of us thought he could be at X. After the press conference today… after listening to everything Christopher, Pres. Hanycz, and Sean had to say, I am now 100% convinced he is that guy. I am proud to say we handled this situation the right way and that we landed the absolute perfect, dream hire.

It is evident he very much wants to be here and I believe we are getting the best version of Sean Miller. He has a new lease on life and being able to start over at the place he loved so much clearly is a dream for him. Everything Sean said just felt incredibly sincere. Sean wasn’t trying to oversell his passion with his tone- he showed it with his very well thought out, meaningful words. He loves X and X loves him.

I didn’t notice him give any hint whether he was or wasn’t keeping players or coaches. I would imagine there are still conversations to be had between Sean and each of those individuals. I do think it was helpful for players to witness his gift of sincerity as he spoke about his beliefs and gratitude. He rightfully concentrated on making the connections that mattered with the Xavier community and stayed away from the more expected grandiose speech that often rings hollow. Everything felt like it comes from his heart and from his many years of experience -learning and reflecting on what he has done well and the mistakes he’s made and then refocusing on improving himself - both as a coach and as a person.

Sean dedicated his life to coaching. He’s a proven winner. He’s made mistakes on and off the court. He’s reflected, learned and grown from those mistakes and now has both the talent and incredible wisdom needed to take himself and X to new heights.

-The University's new President has officially arrived. Dr. C just navigated an especially nuanced situation with moxie, steeliness, and awareness. Beyond getting her target, she knew the importance of 'selling in' Sean to all XU stakeholders by focusing on the due diligence taken by her administration. Sean is her first big decision and test. So far, she's aced it.
-Furthermore, the administration appears to be firing on all cylinders. You can bet old-guard and new-guard senior administrators (Gary Massa, Becky Cull, etc.) needed to be completely in sync to pull this off. More credence to Dr. C's leadership.
-Perhaps most exciting is the expectation this shows Xavier's leadership has for our school. Sean Miller, while the obvious best choice in many ways, comes with a lot of considerations. The school's leadership, including the Board of Trustees, expects XU to be great, not just good. You go get Sean Miller because that's what a great University, with high standards does. Not the safe, rising star from a mid-tier program (read: more affordable) target.

It's easy to overplay one move. However, it feels like the risk is greater to underplay what Sean Miller's hiring means for Xavier University as an institution... especially our new leadership's effectiveness.

There were legit questions 10 days ago about whether the Admins were capable and strong enough in all ways to pull this off.
I thought Dr. Hanycz came off especially great yesterday. She really showed that she “Gets It” about XU and what drives this school forward.
