Obviously interesting developments this afternoon.
Will be interesting to see how coach Hayes uses the squad in the remainder of the NIT for personnel substitutions and how the offense/defense sets look.
Could have up to 2 more home games. For those in the Cincy area, I encourage you to support the boys through a challenge like this in person if possible.
Paul, Nate and so many others have given blood, sweat and skin to the program over the years and you may not have enjoyed the results as much as you would like, but it would be a kind gesture to these young men.
Rise up Xavier Nation.....
Too early to make a call but will Jonas stay on the staff is an important decision moving forward.
Good luck in Game #1, Coach.

Good luck to Jonas!
I would go if I lived nearby. I will be watching. Going to be a little strange, no question.

So is he the Sedler Family Interim Head Coach or is he the Crawford Family Interim Head Coach? Asking for a friend.

Gates seems ridiculous. McMahon not so much. But can't we just cut the bull and get our guy back?

As head coach? Not a chance the administration would take a chance like that after whiffing with the last assistant for a HC who was actually quite successful.
What is in the realm of possibility is Sean getting the job and retaining both Jonas and Dante.

Miller is the only logical choice.

Hayes may want to stick around for a season or two to learn from Miller before departing for a head coaching opportunity...
...and Miller may want Hayes to stick around to learn a thing or two himself.

Danny Peters staying is another possibility .
Can you imagine the tension or awkwardness in a coaches meeting when someone gets a call/text from Travis Steele?

I agree I think this would be a win-win for everyone involved. After a ncaa tournament or two, Hayes will definitely be more attractive, and I’m sure miller would like a consistent voice for the current players and the recruits.

It may look like a win-win to us, but I trust Miller with however he wants the staff to look. If it's not any of the current guys, so be it, Sean's got my full confidence in putting together a winning staff and program.

There is a reason he is a hot commodity, especially to the SEC schools. Would love to keep him around

I have to say. I have really enjoyed watching Coach Hayes’s postgame interviews. I felt like Travis just rambled on and on but Hayes gets to the point with each and every question he is asked

Great point. So true. And he does it with some style - "meat and potatoes" and "cotton candy", etc., as examples.
thanks XAVIER for starting this thread. Hayes deserves his own thread.
I agree with XUPHAN that Jonas is enjoyable to watch during interviews. I would call his interviews “refreshingly real.” I know he’s only had a few of them (and they have all been after a victory), but you can just feel the energy that exudes from him. How he dives right into substance without worrying about time consuming and inconsequential polish or spin. He is not trying to be the CEO of the program.
Jonas simply wants to leader his warriors- and honestly- that what we all want to see during a press conference. He believes in his guys and makes sure that every one who plays tough - even those with seemingly minor roles- gets credit for their part. If I am a player hearing these ad lib remarks from my coach spoken in the same manor as if we were huddled during a timeout, I feel appreciated and empowered and ready to go to battle, because I know this guy has my back.
Steele was like a gracious robot that was preprogrammed to regurgitate the same long winded pleasantries at the beginning of each press conference (gushing about how good a team the opponent is, how they have really good players, how they are coached really well) and then programmed to give one of seveal canned responses (depending on the question asked)… “It’s like I told our guys…you gotta earn it every night” … “I thought we had a lot of good open look, but they just weren’t falling” “We gotta get better and that starts with me.”
He deserves some credit for staying respectful (something the previous coach had issues with), but he just couldn’t understand that a huge part of the team’s poor execution under him was directly tied to his approach. Maybe if he was a bit more like Hayes, he would have gotten through to his players and even better recognized his own shortcomings.

"my guys"...
Steele was programmed to say the same BS and continue with his same BS rotations/strategies and refused to change.

What does Hayes do as he is the interim coach each day? He goes from being on Team 100's coaching staff and probably recruits every single day.
Then as the interim coach, he doesn't have a team to recruit for.
He could say, : Hey ! I will be happy to have recruit X come to Xavier but I don't know if I will be here next season. "

For all we know Miller has already told him that if he wants to stay he has the job. In which case he is probably reaching out to recruits and transfers on behalf of X. If not, then is still reaching out to them and trying to build relationships anyway. Recruiting is all about relationships. Building those relationships will help him to succeed no matter where he is tomorrow, next year, or in the future.
As the interim coach, he’s also probably watching a lot of film, game planning, running practices, dealing with logistics of travel, taking care of problems the players and other coaches being to him, and doing whatever else it is that Miller wants him to do. He might also be talking with other schools and coaches about where he just might be next year. That leaves about 10-15 minutes a day to eat, poop, and sleep. Hopefully he has a good wife/partner that can take care of the rest of his personal/civilian responsibilities and problems.

In other word, he has zero time to eat and sleep.
