Officially starts tonight. I guess you could say it sort of started already because both the Ivy League and Ohio Valley had elimination games this past weekend where teams were eliminated from making the conference tournaments, but the actual conference tournaments start tonight!
Opening round of the NEC! Fairleigh Dickinson vs Central Connecticut! The winner gets Bryant, who clinched first place on Saturday when they beat Wagner in a winner take all regular season finale! I do not think the loser of this game will make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large.

FDU does have that big win over Wagner on their resume, so who knows.....
Go Racers! No bid stealing, and a single digit seed for them would be nice.

I think Murray will get a single digit seed even if they don't win the tournament. They've already beaten everybody twice. Beating them (or NOT beating them) a third time shouldn't matter.

Would not surprise me if Belmont/Morehead or even SE Missouri State pulled the upset of Murray. They're world beaters one game and very ordinary the next game.

IUPUI only had five players available for last night's HL Tourney game against Oakland. It was the first time in over ten years a team had gone an entire game without making a single substitution. Their season has mercifully come to an end.

Greg Kampe still getting wins in his 38th season at Oakland. Not one of his more impressive ones against a 3 win team with only five players, but his 664th of the career and 20th of this year. He's 66, so this could continue for a while longer.

Kampe needed that win to save his job! (Sarcasm)

Arch Madness gets rolling tomorrow night. That's the unofficial start of the basketball postseaon for me.

Always a great Tournament.

Yesterday in the Big South three of the four opening round games went into overtime, and the one that didn't was a last second tip-in.
All these teams are really playing for is the opportunity to play again the next day. That's it. They most likely aren't getting to the tournament, and if they do get there they won't be there for long, but I still love watching these conference tournament games, even if it is an opening round game of a one-bid league.

Makes one scratch their head that a team like Xavier pisses the opportunity away. We keep thinking, "Next game" with X, but for these teams, next game is next year.

We have an interesting situation tonight. Murray-Morehead's winner was supposed to be the first NCAA Tournament ticket punched tonight, but Jacksonville State might beat them to the punch because Bellarmine upset Liberty to advance to the A-Sun championship. If Jax State wins tonight, they're dancing regardless of what happens against Bellarmine in the A-Sun Championship b/c Bellarmine is still a transitional team and not eligible for the NCAA Tournament yet.

Jax State losses so they now need Bellarmine to beat Jacksonville for them to make the tournament.

5 PM, Freedom Hall on Tuesday for that one.
I hope ESPN has a split screen for the game and Jax State fans celebrating should Bellarmine win that one.

And Murray St. up 4 with under 12 to go. Ugh, this is what we're reduced to this season.

No bid thief tonight. Murray State now looking at potentially an 8 or even a 7 seed in the NCAAs.

I should also add that with the WCC now on ESPN2, the BYU-San Fran loser is going to be sweating on Selection Sunday (moreso if it's BYU).

Fun fact - I went to Eastern Kentucky University my freshman year (way back dudes in the early 80s). EKU was a football school but part of the OVC. I was a pretty good (albeit 5'10") basketball player in high school who had delusions of walking on. I went to 1 practice and decided intramurals would be just fine for me and my limited talent/height/athletic ability. EKU left the OVC for the A-SUN. No one cares. And no one cares about my fun fact except me. Just thought I'd add a little levity to an otherwise tough season. You can just call me Al Bundy ;)

Since you played hoops and not football, what’s your equivalent of Al’S 4 TD game? Who’d you light up for 40 points and a triple double? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well since you asked ... (Right hand firmly placed halfway down pants). My best game actually occurred after I used my 1 transfer to NKU. See back then you could transfer from D1 to DII and not have to sit out a year. Actually, you could transfer to anywhere from anywhere to any level without having to sit out a year. It was amazing - almost like all I had to do was write a check to the bursar's office. But I don't want you to think I (or my agent) did anything illegal. There might have been some images of my likeness hanging around campus but that was (allegedly) because I was running for President of the Systems Management Club (a post to which I was, in fact, proudly elected and served admirably for at least 1 semester).
But I digress. Back to my shining moment. It was tournament time in the NKU Intramurals. My team was right in the thick of things in the quarter finals (I think). We needed a W to stay alive and that's when I somehow channeled my inner Larry Johnson/Magic Bird or something like that (Steph Curry wasn't even born yet and yes, this was before the 3 point line was added) into what we all know as "The Zone". It was a glorious stretch of at least 3 minutes where everything I threw up found the bottom of the net. Some of them actually went in too. At the final whistle, our team got the coveted W and I wound up with 30 / 12 / 10. OK so I'm not as sure on the Assists & Rebounds (it was intramurals and those stats were not ... ahem ... kept as accurately).
So there you have it - my 1 shining, Al Bundy moment. But wait, there’s more! As a bonus, I went on to take 3rd place in the college-wide Euchre tournament that Spring. I employed a "drink first" strategy where I successfully called and won multiple loners. This winning strategy later became known as “RECTO-LINEAR EXTRACTION” and is, in fact, used extensively by many of today's business and political leaders.
Wow, that’s a lot to “digest”. Thanks for allowing me to regale you with such fond Bundy-like moments. It's tough when you set the bar so high so early on in life. We live in a “what have you done for me lately” word. I’ll have to get back to you on that one.

Got this from a friend and just had to share it…
I am pretty certain this happened today:
Juwan Howard pre-game "Phil, you did a great job these last 5 games, you run the show today"
Juwan Howard with 12 minutes left to play "Phil, we are up huge, I will take it from here, no worries."

Way to go Jerome Carter!

Indiana, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and/or Texas A&M are going to win more and get a bid. VCU & Dayton are sitting there to make a push too.
Last Four In spots are slipping away.

They haven't gotten much love from the media, but I also think North Texas will get a very serious look from the committee if they don't win CUSA. They may not be selected, and if they're not then no one will ever know that the committee really looked at them, but I think they will. Call it a hunch. I get those every now and then.

And right on cue, North Texas is basically whipping it out and pissing all over the grave of James Naismith. That’s how bad they’re playing.

I had to do a triple take when I saw the score was 33-23 La Tech with 8 minutes left in the GAME.

I think it's safe to assume that whoever the strength and conditioning coach for Rutgers is just made history in the B1G Tournament. Two separate techs and he's been ejected by Bo Boroski.

Would Davidson get an at-large if they lose the A-10 championship? It looks like they are a 10 seed, so it would seem so.
Would Dayton get an at-large just by making the A-10 final? But a determined-looking Richmond stands in their way first.

Question #1? Yes. Might not matter the way they're blowing out SLU.
Question #2? No. You could have made the at-large case had they beaten VCU again, but Richmond beat them to the punch. They're either getting the auto bid or NIT.
