Sounds like we are interested in being this PG in for next year. I was interested in what he said about Xavier. Saying that the coaches are telling him they want him to run the point moving forward. What about Odom?

I'm sure they tell everyone they're going to be in the mix from day 1.
"yeah, you're probably going to sit for 2 years and be a practice player" doesn't usually seal the deal.

We are losing all but one guy who could play PG next year. Dwon can"t play 40 minutes. Kunk will be back but he's a SG. Colby isn't a point. Nate and Paul are gone. KyKy is a question mark, but definitely not a PG. He'll fight for SG minutes if healthy and he stays. A Nate type player.
Not surprised they'd tell Mintz he'll get significant minutes. And it sounds like they won't be as transfer portal active.

There is probably some middle ground or else there would be more transfers every year.

Yes, definitely need PG help. Although freshman PG's are players I usually trust a whole lot. That being said I know nothing about this kid, so he may be amazing.
What's the deal with not being active in the transfer portal for next year? Where did that come from? Seems like a mistake to me, the transfer portal seems like it will only become more important.

There would be a ton of blow back if Steele said, "you start from day 1".
I bet he says, "You have every opportunity to start on day 1"
He would lose all credibility and players would transfer so fast if he made some back room deal with an 17/18 year old.
Now recruits know the classes at X. Dwon is a sophomore. He knows X wants to win BE championship and win a National Championship.
It is a jigsaw puzzle with Transfers and frosh.
I hope Tandy recovers well. He is not palying much next year with Kunkel, Craft, Ward, Jones and XYZ recruit/transfer
X needs and will get a transfer pg/sg who can run Steele's system.

They might be active, but it appears that Steele wants to have a mixture on the roster. The portal is an unknown as to who might be available so you have to recruit as if there is no one good on the portal. You still want 4 year guys to have a team affinity for the school.

We are going to have to go transfer portal for PG if we cant get Mintz or someone else in the 22 class. You cant just have Dwon there and no other PG option.

I think Odom has been pretty good this year. I would have no reservation with him getting 25+ minutes.
Puzzling that he wasn't really used against Nova in the 2nd half.

I’d be shocked if they don’t hit the transfer portal again. They have had success the last couple years with it. Of course it’s a mix of 4 year guys, but I expect them to always be hitting the portal for rotational players

Interesting- I actually think Colby could play the point. I feel very comfortable when the ball is in his hands. Always seems like he’s calm and in control- feel like it’s been a while since we’ve had that type of PG. Feels like we’ve had a history of guys who want to force things and thus play/drive out of control.

Thing is that he is so valuable off the ball. Has a nose for it and his rebounding at the 3 is superb.
As NBA prep, it would be fun to see him get some PG experience, but that’s not in the team’s best interest.

Yeah, but he would only need to play PG for about 10 minutes per game.

So whats the rule for transfers playing if they are not on scholarship?

He was at Tennessee Tech for a reason.
More players transferring with injuries.

I don’t know if it’s still true, but it used to make no difference if you were on scholarship or not. The eligibility and transfer rules were the same. However, I do know that there have been changes made over the years, so I won’t say if that’s still the case for sure.

Can't ever have enough ball handlers imo. What if Odom gets hurt? I am not sure we ever get anything out of Tandy outside of his solid freshman season. I hope so but wouldn't count on it.
And let's not forget we can now get transfers who can play right away who have several years remaining. This should be an area we scout hard every year and I am sure the staff is.

While I don’t know if I want him running point, I don’t know where the perception of him being a turnover machine comes from because stats don’t reflect it, even freshman year when he was getting a lot of playing time.
If anyone is a turnover machine, it’s Paul and he hasn’t improved at all in five years in that regard

Historically KyKy hasn't really passed the ball a whole lot, which helps limit the turnovers. If you count putting up a terrible shot with like 5 seconds into the shot clock as a turnover it changes that stat though.
Mostly I just haven't seen the level of vision and decision making from KyKy that I would want anyone even seeing spot time as a PG to have.

He played 6 games for TT, then got injured. Transferred at the semester break and will be eligible in the 22-23 season, probably the 2nd semester.

I am FIRMLY in the Kunkel>Kyky camp. That being said, I think he could run the point some next year. I don't know that we've ever had a full look at what he can do. He had to shoot a lot as a frosh because we literally had no outside shooting. Last year was a lost year because of the depth, this year due to injury. But he's athletic and can score, I bet with increased playing time and confidence, we wouldn't see some of the rushed decisions and bad shots. Every time he came in the game last year (after that first 6 or so) it seemed like he was pressing way too hard to make an immediate impact.
I do agree with the people saying to see what's there in the transfer portal, thats a huge part of college sports now, but I'm not quite ready to totally give up on him either, especially since we'll need some guard depth next year. He could be our sixth man and a spark off the bench...but it's also just as likely we've seen all he's gonna do here.

Why would he not be eligible until the second semester? There is a free transfer rule now. Unless he has already transferred once?

Good question, but I can’t answer. I can only tell you that what I read was that he wasn’t eligible until next year. I’m assuming that would mean he would be eligible at the semester break, but that’s just speculation on my part. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he be eligible right now? Perhaps it is so that he doesn’t lose a year of eligibility because he played 6 games already this year?

"Because Miller's a mid-season transfer he won't be eligible until the 2022-23 season."
I think just means the start of next basketball season. I think there is a rule that you can't transfer mid season and play. This to prevent a "free agency" type thing in the middle of a season. Like Duke's starting PG goes down and they poach a star mid major PG in January.

And that’s why I said “probably” and didn’t say it as an absolute….I don’t know which way it is. But I would think that if he sits out a full 2 semesters that he might still have a full 4 years of eligibility AND they might even be able to petition for this year to be considered a medical redshirt? But hey, we’re talking about a WALK-ON, I think we’ve spent enough time discussing the eligibility of someone that may never even see the court. Let’s move on.

Where are all the "players rights" advocates now? All the people that said it's only fair to let players transfer whenever they want. They should all protest against this absurd rule that wont allow players to change teams (and play) mid year.
