I was curious about the XU record against some of our better competition, so I did some legwork to pull together a history of our wins and losses over the last 30 years (1991-92 to 2020-21).
I literally looked at our schedule and results each year with the goal to identify games against teams that would be considered to currently be in a "Big 6" conference. So the "major" teams. I took a bit of a forward view by considering the composition of the Big 6 conferences in a couple years. As an example, I considered UC and BYU to be in the B12, while Texas and Oklahoma are counted as SEC teams. I also included games against Gonzaga because frankly they have just earned the "major" tag.
Also of note is that I counted games against teams if we played them BEFORE they were part of a Big 6 Conference. Virginia Tech, Butler, Creighton, and a few other teams fall into these categories...
STATS
-Overall XU record over the last 30 years is 673-295 (69.5%)
-Record against "Big 6" teams is 206-165 (55.5%)
-We have played 38.3% of our games against BIG 6 Competition. That percentage will continue to increase now that we are in the BigEast
-Our record against non Big 6 teams is 467-130 (78.2%)
- We have played 59 different "big 6" opponents
- We have more wins than losses against 29 opponents. We have a .500 record against 13 opponents. We have more losses than wins against 17 opponents.
- We have an overall winning record against 5 of the 6 conferences, with the Pac 12 being at .500 exactly.
- 109-80 vs. Big East
- 25-22 vs. ACC
- 15-11 vs. B10
- 8-8 vs. Pac12
- 25-18 vs. SEC
- 24-22 vs. B12
- 0-4 vs. Gonzaga.....
- Most wins: Butler (23), UC (17), St. Johns & DePaul (14), Creighton (13), Marquette & GT (12), Virginia Tech (9).
- Most Wins against teams that arent traditional rivals or conference foes: Purdue & Wake (5).
- Teams that have "owned us": Nova (3-15), Gonzaga (0-4), Duke (0-3), Notre Dame (2-5), UCLA (0-2), Tennessee (1-4), Baylor (1-3).
Thats it. No real commentary to share. I was interested in knowing this info, and thought I'd share.
