View Full Version : Wouldn't some CONSISTENCY be nice

I think we have seen enough early to know what each player is CAPABLE of. Xavier has more than enough high quality of depth to seriously compete for a conference championship. I personally doubt that we get there, simply because no one has proven to be CONSISTENT enough to post elite scoring numbers game after game. No breaking news here, but Scruggs is example 1. Although he is rock steady as it gets defensively, he is all over the place scoring wise.

Freemantle can certainly be that guy for us.

But who knows if his numbers can be sustained on a surgery repaired foot....let alone improve on them.

IMO, Championships seem to come, more often than not, from teams with guys like this.

Or even this.

Obviously, great things can happen when several guys step up big in games throughout the season, but there is much more comfort in having 1 guy that just doesn't take games off scoring the ball. ESPECIALLY for a young coach that desperately needs that type guy in his back pocket. Special Players can cover up a plethora of perceived coaching mistakes.....see John Calipari.

Execution---Consistancy badly needed.

It's the same players and same coach for years now. Why would you expect anything more than what you have seen?

Ummm because players, coaches and people in general have the ability to improve year over year???

You are aware of one of the definitions of insanity right? Same parts different results typically doesn't happen

Huge changes in stats for 3 X players this early season compared to past.

Johnson, Jones, and Nunge are blowing their stats away in most categories.

X needs to play more in the paint but even Odom is shooting a team 2nd 67%

Odom isn't a poor shooter. He's a poor spot up shooter and particularly a poor shooter beyond the arc. Odom is paying attention to his offensive strengths--taking the ball to the paint---and staying away from shooting three pointers. In that way, he has a greater level of discipline than others on this team.

Odom has done a much better job of picking his spots the last 3-4 games. He was pressing in the early games. He's been very good.

However, he can't get frustrated because the better coaches in the Big East will try to exploit his lack of perimeter game. Our rotations when Odom is in the game will be very important in conference.
