Did any of you by chance, watch this Saturday from UC? There were SEVERAL signs that were trashing Xavier! I say XU students need to put THOSE people in their place on December 11th!! A part of me was HONORED that even though Saturday moring at UC should have been ALL about UC's football team several of THEM decided to put the spotlight on XU and THAT rivalry!

X fans should be proud that our program distracts the Number 2 team in college football from enjoying recognition.

The only jab UC fans make toward X is our lack of a football program. Wow, that hurts..............not.

Saw that UMass fired their football coach after a terrible season. WTH does UMass have a football program?

The thing about Game Day, from what I understand, is that it is way more produced than it is organic. I've been to a few games that Game Day was at, and actually thought it was kind of lame. They have these "production assistants" who are out in the crowd that actually just work for ESPN and are pretending to be all jacked up for....Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit? Umm...okay. Even the signs are pretty much hand picked, and from what I understand are sometimes actually made by ESPN.

Now having said that...I have no idea why ESPN would be making signs about Xavier. I mean, if it were a football rivalry I'd get it, or if ESPN had the rights to the Shootout this year, I'd get it. But...it's not, and...they don't. So, did ESPN want the signs their to dis the Big East? I don't think they're that stupid because it actually has the opposite effect, and surely they would know that. Are there UC fans that are so fixated on Xavier that they'd go through the trouble of making a sign, and then getting there early enough in the morning to be screened so they could get that sign on camera?? That just seems a little hard to believe. But..there it was! Right on TV!

The fact uc had game day is a complete joke anyways. It was a game against a crap opponent, and was propped up as a we need to give the little guy a chance. Meanwhile, ESPN has a big influence on keeping the little guy out.

I think that's just his way of saying "Let's win on December 11th." At least...that's what I think.

As for the signs, there is no way to look at that as being anything other than ridiculous.

If UC fans/students made them themselves and stood out there for hours upon end to get on TV, that's ridiculous.

If the GameDay production assistants wanted those signs on the air and handed them out, that's ridiculous.

If it was a covert operation by Xavier fans, that's ridiculous. Actually, that might be kinda cool!! But...only kind of. I mean, is it worth being out there that early in the morning and for that long just for that??

I cannot think of a single situation regarding those signs that would make me say "Oh, okay. That makes sense!" I don't know why they were there, but I'm pretty sure that whatever the reason was, it was a ridiculous reason.

Sort of...but only sort of. ESPN has the rights to the CFP, they paid a fortune for it, and for those three games they want the ratings as high as possible. But, ESPN would love a 12 team playoff more than just about anyone else. So if you look at it that way, they are actually trying to open up the doors for the little guy.

In addition to 11 playoff games instead of 3, ESPN knows that a 12 team playoff would suddenly boost the ratings for at least one of the G5 Championship games, and likely boost it for all of the P5 championship games they have the rights to. So...they REALLY want it. That I can attest to. In ESPN's mind, getting the rights to a 12 team college football playoff would put them on par with CBS/Turner. I think that was part of the reason they wanted to to have GameDay in Cincinnati, and not so much to give the little guy a chance. Although....they have done that. They've gone to Ivy League schools, and even D3 schools, but I don't think that's what this was.

A few times each season, I see Xavier signs or people in Xavier gear at the filming of College Gameday. I half expected to see some Xavier fans infiltrate UC's campus this past weekend, and hold up their own signs. I am NOT surprised to see UC fans with signs about Xavier, as we are (and always will be) rivals of the best kind. It is natural to sling arrows at your rival, and quite frankly, I found this weeks' Gameday signs about Xavier unoriginal and weak.

Interesting points but ESPN might not even have the money to win an open market negotiation to a 12 team playoff.

That's a good point as well. I mean...they DO have enough. It's Disney. The question is if it turns into a bidding war and gets into the billions, would they want to pay that much for it?? They've tried to get the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Multiple times. And, they've always waived the white flag.

EDIT: What's interesting though, at least to me, is that I don't think the CFP really isn't a stand alone event when it comes to the TV deal. It really isn't a playoff as much as it is a scheduling agreement with the bowls and conferences. It's an invitational dressed up to look like a playoff, but it's not like the NCAA Basketball Tournament where for TV purposes and event management purposes it's an entirely different entity that the conferences have no part in facilitating it. So, if ESPN can end up including it in the conference TV deals that are already there, then would they have to pay through the nose to get it?? I honestly don't know exactly how that would work.

There are other media companies that can easily outspend Disney.

Disney is the third largest media company in the world, and the largest by far that is not in communication infrastructure (internet, cable/dish, and cell phone).

Amazon for one that could outbid it, with many others.

Oh, YESSSSS!!!!!!!

t would make me very happy if Amazon paid a fortune for the exclusive rights to the CFP, and then just stuck it on Prime. People would totally flip out!! Especially in the South where a significant number of fans probably don't subscribe to premium streaming services!! I'm having fun just imaging the reactions!!

WOW! THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!
