Hmmm. Sat next to Stan Kimbrough in 1988 and this piece had him at X 1981-85. Know I’m slightly biased, but he was a stud. Trying to remember, did Derek Strong play for Xavier? Obviously recent bias, but still fun to watch video…

Any ranking that doesn't include Justin Cage is bogus, plain and simple.

Strong played for X side by side with Tyrone Hill.

That video is extremely painful to watch

Most of those guys deserve it, not sure I agree with some of the rankings. BUT any list not having Steve Thomas in the top 3, and Bob Pelkington not in top 15 means real recency bias and is total BS. It would be like UC's list leaving out the Big O!

Yup, and same goes for Jumpin' Jamal. NO Lumpkin or Brown? Brown hit basically the biggest single shot in program history. Not to mention, if JP is not included on a list like this it's not really credible.

Agree on Thomas, I’d also like Cage, JP included

Not to mention, he did this all playing on bum knees most of his career, which finally knocked him out of the Pro's.

Are you bragging that you notice the music during porn? I guess that could make it seem more “artsy”? :-)

I posted this a couple days ago MM in response to a similar thread. Later amended my sort of honorable mentions by adding BJ Raymond for his WV heroics and Josh Duncan. Have at it!!

OK, I'll bite. And everyone can trash me afterwards. I go back a loooong way, but obviously, before all games were on TV,so I haven't seen everyone on the list so I'm going mostly on stats and my personal opinion. (what else!). Had to do 25 tho, and moving someone up a couple or down a few would probably be my list if I did it again next week.

Here goes:

25.Dave Piontek--differenr era, different game, but still 3rd on list for rebounds per game and 7 yr NBA career. Not sure but probably the first ever NBA er for X

24. Jack Thobe--see above, 8th in points per game, 9th in total rebounding. Also, two of the stars of the '58 NIT championship show up in all time stats (Stein FT % and Viviano in rebounds) so obviously a couple of good players in the day.

23. J Cage--not a stat leader, but what an all around glue guy and defensive stalwart.

22 JP Macura--again not a stat leader, but what a crowd pleaser! Had to include him somewhere in my list!

21. J. Gladden--9th in all time scoring, almost 3 assist per game. Smooth game.

20. L Rackley--Never forget talking to him at the field house with my 5'1" date! Plus, 1st in mins played per game, 2 in rebounds per game

19. A Hicks--probably should be higher cause he's 5th in mins pg, 6th in assists pg, and 9th in points pg and 8th in total points. Damn, he should be higher!

18. D. Strong--probably helped by teaming up with Hill, but tough player, 10th in rebounds, money at the line, and ask Georgetown! Ok, I'm willing to trade him with Hicks.

17.B Quick--much like Semaj in more recent days, he had to take the team on his back to win games. 21 pig--3rd on list,6th most FT attempts, 6th in total rebounds.

16. D. Brown--Didn't play his senior season, so didn't't get much in the record books, but if you saw him play, you know he was one of the best.

!5. J Walker--Guy had some moves! Plus 7th in steals and 2nd in assists. Jumping!

14. B Pelkington-- rebounding machine! 2nd all time, 1st in rebounds pg, and led nation one year. Not great leaper, just couldn't be moved.

13. J. Doellman--one of my all-time favorites. One of the highest bball IO's I've seen at X. Doesn't hit the leader board too much; games, off rebounds, blocks, but all around clutch player. OK, you can move him with Hicks, but I still love the guy!

12.S. Christon--missed out of 2 yrs, so all-time stats aren't there, but what a player. Scored over 1000 its by end of sophomore year and 1st team all Big East selection. Carried team to NCAA, but lost to NC State.

11. R. Sato--I think he could jump off of NO feet- 8th in all time rebounds and a wing/guard. Definitely a 3-pt shooter and scorer 1st and 2nd all time

10. It's been hard but now it gets harder!

!0. B Grant--You idiot, how could you rank him so low?? Not sure--it's just there are a lot of good players left. Also, it's hard cuz he's one of my all time favs

9. J Posey--Don't you know he and Grant also had great pro careers? What's a matter with this list??

8. L Brown-- The SHOT!! Plus 6th in points and 3rd in 3 pointers, and 1st in steals.

7. T Hill--OMG I'm not reading any further, clearly you're delusional. 3 of the last 4 are some of X's best NBA players ever!

6. J Crawford--Not there long enough to re-write the record books but probably the most athletic player I've ever seen at X. Gifted at all aspects of the game, but a sometimes head case!

5. Tu--nuff said--gamer, clutch, any cliche' you want to use! WINNER!

4. T. Bluiett-- Man could shoot!! If he had 75% of Crawfords athleticism he would be an NBA all-star

3. S. Thomas--Man could score!! Before the 3 pt shot--averaged 24 ppg career and one season playing with and injured knee. When healthy he averaged 30 ppg in 63-64 season. Scored 50 in one game for XU record. X should have retired his number!!!

2. Anybody still wondering on the last. two? Haha!
B. Larkin and 1. D West-- any argument with those two and you have been at Dana's too long!

I know I left out some great players, notably guys like A.Williams, S Kimbrough, L Chalmers, ,J. Love, S. Burrell, M Stainbrook, D. Davis, D. Lavender N. Marshall, P Scruggs and so many others. I'd just like to thank them and all X players who have given me (us) so much enjoyment for SO many years. Let's go X!

Very good assessment of each player. Your 1-19 spots are safely in my top 25. Like you, I feel Strong and J Walker absolutely need to be included in the top 25. Also, like you, Davis, Frease, A Williams, and McLean would not have made my top 25. I would not have removed Kimbrough, though. He was one of the scrappiest defenders X ever had and he averaged 17 points a game. Also, unlike you, I would not have included Cage or Gladden in my top 25 - just not quite there for me. JP is on the fringe but gets in for me. After spot 19, I think there could be a pretty good argument for 20 or so X players to own one of the remaining six spots.

Here are my remaining six:

20.S Kimbrough (might even have him in my top 15)
21.M Stainbrook
22. M Lyons
23. L Chalmers - has to be in if only for how he finished his career at X.
24. E Sumner
25. N Marshall

JUST MISSED
J Macura
S Burrell
D Williams
D Wells (likely a top 10 if he stayed)
