View Full Version : Do you believe the NCAA is a cartel?
Cartel = "an association of manufacturers or suppliers with the purpose of maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition."
http://web1.ncaa.org/committees/committees_roster.jsp?CommitteeName=EXEC
NCAA Board of Governors - Comprised mostly of NCAA presidents and Athletic Directors. Whose pay probably averages high 6 and low 7 figures.
Do you think these presidents and athletic directors benefit from student athletes not being paid?
Yes = NCAA is a cartel
No = Please explain why

OMG, how many threads do we have to create for the same topic? Reminds me 5-6 months ago on Steele
Don’t get me wrong, love reading new commits but…
Oh well, carry on.

I think there may be a belief that if you change the words around and add a poll you have something fresh? One vote may win this! :-)

This is going to get political in a hurry…..probably needs to be moved to that section
No. They are literally in the business of competition.
Please explain. As far as I can tell, it is a group of rich presidents establishing rules to benefit themselves. Their business seems to be maximizing profits of college athletics while minimizing their costs as much as is possible. In other words, the opposite of competition. A true competition would be each school fighting each other on costs and prices.
Honestly. This debate is hilariously slanted due to the demographics of this forum. Older conservatives. 9/10 people I have discussed this with in person think the NCAA is a scam. Its as plain as day, one side of the organization gets paid handsomely and other side gets paid nothing. There is no eye test.
The only thing that really gets me is the hypocrisy of it all. Conservatives are supposed to be the free-market advocates yet they stand behind a state-run, anti-competitive organization that benefits only those at the top who run it. Y'all need to hand in your free market cards and register for the communist party.

Wow… at first I just thought you had an axe to grind against the ncaa obsessed with starting threads about the same topic. Now you’re coming off as a complete prick stereotyping a complete group of people way to go.
You are also completely missing why people have concerns about where this could be heading. It’s not because people love the ncaa
