Recap.

- Steele was there. Gave a speech. Said nothing new other than he was “excited”. Introduced the new coaches. Took no questions.
- No one is confident about Ben Stanley playing on time when the season starts. “He couldn’t play right now”.
- Niagara will be the opening night game
- Xavier gets a home game in the Gavitt Games
- Talked to Greg Christopher about the new golf coach search process. Had 55 applicants now winnowed down to 7. Some former College Golf Head Coaches in the mix. Greg says that they would like to hire “one with experience”.
- Team MOR shot a cool -10, a 62, on Kendale at Kenwood CC. The old Golf Team farts still got it.
- Afternoon flight somehow avoided the rain.

Another great day, too long in coming, with great people.
Consensus: Xavier NEEDS to Dance this year. The string is out. No Dance? No “Four More Years”.

I’ve only been the last 3-4 years. Do coaches usually take questions during this? I’ve not seen it yet.

Thought it was interesting that they have 8 weeks to work with the players- something like 1 hour a day- and their goal is every player to put up 20,000 3’s in those 8 weeks.

Sean Miller & Chris Mack always did. Sean was especially loquacious and gracious.
Steele never has

hope Stanley can recover, we only saw him so briefly but I liked what I saw against Creighton and Seton Hall with zero game experience as he looked like an instinctive offensive player and strong finisher. He came here as a choice so I feel a lot of empathy

I don't get this. He needs to take a bunch of questions especially after the last 3 seasons. What are his plans to right the ship?

I don't know that the golf outing is the time to put coach on blast. It could get pretty ugly.. Seems more like the coaches show where he would take questions like that.

He's probably been reading this board, and decided taking questions would be a cluster****.

If true, he wasn’t wrong.

Sort of like the program under his guidance? Hey oh!

(Sorry, I think we're going to be fine this year and Steele will be fine, but the setup was too easy!)

You're right. It was a real softball.

At least you didn't take a walk on it.

Mack and Miller both took questions every year, good one or bad in the previous season. (Shoulder Shrug)

And why would he? He would actually have to take accountability for his failures, of which he hasn't done once in his three years. "Man, we just gotta get better. Man, he's just gotta play defense. Man......"

No one is arguing Steele has been a success yet. But you are crazy if you don't think this last year wasn't better than the first two. I would say its a 50% chance Steele proves himself this year (or next if we get middling results like a 10 seed). I would not have said that after the first two. And to be clear, if we don't have continuous success and be in the mix for the 6/7 seed these next two years then I would have no problem with Steele getting the axe.

I attended a couple times between 2002 and 2005 when I lived in Cincy, no one is asking a tough question at the golf outing…

I don’t see that setting as being the right place for tough questions. There is a time and a place, I think.

Guess I'm nuts. 7th in BE doesn't seem like 3rd in the BE and dropping the last games of the season to crap teams, one when up by 20, didn't give me any warm fuzzies.

I seem to remember Steele taking questions at his first one (including one about possibly redshirting Miles) and handling them well. At his second, he at least spoke pretty extensively about each player. This year seemed a lot more rushed than past years, but it is what it is. It's not a tough room, no one's gonna grill him there, it's pretty much a subdued pep rally.

I see your point. I don't think the XU Admin or AD will fire Steele if he makes the tourney 2 years in a row as a 12, 11, or 10 seed.

We fans have higher expectations.

I agree with you. Last year was no better (probably worse) than the first two years.
