This is a strange NCAA Tournament, capping off a STRANGE season in general.
In the last 20 years, 12 different teams have won the NCAA Tournament
9 of those teams made the tourney
They have a combined record of 7-9
2 teams made the sweet 16
0 teams made the elite 8
If you go back 30 years, you'll find that 16 teams have won it.
11 teams made it this year
they are 14-10 combined
4 teams made the Sweet 16
2 teams made the Elite 8
If UCLA loses tonight, they will have no Final 4 representation
The 16 winners in the last 30 years have had a total of 81 Final 4 appearances out of a total of 120. That means 67.5% of all final 4 participants have come from this pool of 16 teams.
Further, in 17 of 30 years at LEAST 3 of the 4 Final 4 teams came from this pool of 16 teams.
If UCLA loses tonight, it's going to mark the first time since 1961!!!!! that one of these 16 teams is not in the Final 4.
Strange year, Indeed!
