So in the 1st round of the tourney if a team can’t play bc of covid issues they will be replaced by the highest ranked team of the first 4 out.

So if a 1 seed has covid and can’t play the first team out would take their spot and assume the 1 seed.

Might not be a bad strategy for X

The first instance of biological warfare in college basketball team. Bubble teams sending their COVID 19 students to try to get close to teams that are locks.

That only applies until 6pm Tuesday, or 48 hours after selection. After that the Covid team becomes a forfeit. And I doubt they take the Covid teams spot. Every team just moves up one spot. My guess would be the replacement team becomes a 12 seed. Logistically it's not a problem because the whole tournament is in the same area. So there will be a number of last outs sitting on pins and needles until Tues evening.

No, they absolutely without doubt take the COVID teams spot, I had that confirmed on twitter when I responded the the NCAA guy asking that on a reporters thread.

I did miss the the 48 hours after thing but even in the release it states after the selection show no teams will be reseeded.

With the bracketing rules, it would be a shit show to reseed.

So say Gonzaga or Baylor get Covid, theoretically, North Dakota A & T, who was last 4 becomes a 1 seed ? Only the NCAA could think up something that stupid. The 48 hour business was in the original press release this morning, maybe they amended it.

No you are correct about the 48 hour thing, I just missed that.

One bid league teams aren’t the ones who are the final 4 out typically. It would be someone like let’s say Minnesota or Xavier or seton hall even.

enough with the Travis bashing, this is as close to a 1-seed as we've been in a few years!

Yes, but if Gonzaga or Baylor gets shut down after Tuesday, the #16 team would advance to the round of 32 via forfeit. If they were to be shut down before Tuesday, the next team in line to make the field would take their spot.

This won't happen because it appears as though BYU is safely inside the bubble, but had Gonzaga gotten the only bid out of the WCC and then been shut down, the WCC's "contingency team" would have gotten to take their place, and would have been placed on the #1 line.
