Some of us had a pretty bleak outlook about the impact of letting players transfer without sitting out a year.
Some of us thought it would be chaos.
Other's told me that I was claiming that the "sky was falling"

Well, this is the new normal. Hope you enjoyed the years where you would be able to count on seeing players show up and play for 4 years. The domino effect with result in chaos.
Imagine, you have 3 schollies open for next year, and 3 recruits lined up. at the end of the year you have an unexpected transfer out, so an open roster spot. You recruit a transfer in. That displaces a guy that thought he had a starting role. He transfers out. New open roster spot. Fill it with another transfer....musical chairs
you know what? Fuck it. Just pay the fucking players, and then just do an annual draft. Most of them don't give a fuck about school anyway. Pay em and draft all new teams every year.

Can’t imagine that why you want a player on your team that doesn’t want to compete for minutes and expects that just because they have stuck around that they deserve those minutes. Then when that doesn’t happen, they decide to run away. Take the path of least resistance. I’ll never harbor disrespect for someone leaving in search of playing time elsewhere, not if they freely admit that they aren’t good enough to earn it where they are. Takes a lot of maturity to realize ones limitations and admit them to themself. But I have no respect for those that think they are entitled to playing time just because they have “paid their dues”. If that was all it took, then everyone 4 year walk on should be a starter, right?
You win championships with players that have character, not with players that are characters.

This sounds a lot more like an old guy pining for the good ole days than what XUGRAD 80 said. Maybe I'm wrong, but i just don't see this as that big of a deal....the only ones that have to worry about it are the coaches that are getting paid millions of dollars.

You sound like the old guy. I don’t have a problem with the players transferring at all. I don’t think that it will be a revolving door, anymore than it is right now. I think the vast majority of players will still be looking for somewhere to go for a career, and not just for a year or two. I think the majority will stay all 4 years. As for those that choose to leave....so be it. I’ve no problem with it. There’s a 13 person roster and only 5 can play at one time. Based on how the people that have transferred out of X have done elsewhere, I’d say the vast majority came to the realization that they just couldn’t cut it at X. No all of them, but the vast majority for sure. No hard feelings on my part toward any of them. I wish them all the best. But I want players AT X that aren’t afraid to compete for minutes and don’t expect them to be handed to them. I think that if X has players on its roster that are willing to compete for playing time, they will have players on their roster that will also compete for game wins. Isn’t that what we should want? Personally I don’t care if those players came in as freshman and stay 4 years or come in as senior transfers.
Oh by the way, I am an old guy.....but I still work and coach with 18 year olds (and younger) on an almost daily basis.

I am probably as big a proponent of paying the players that exist and I am against this rule. The thing is, the NCAA isn't negotiating with the players, its negotiating against public perception keeping their scam running. If this league were dealt like any other the transfer rule would be bargained over and a compromise reached. My dream scenario: player's union for all power conferences. Keep academic eligibility, transfer rules in place, remove artificial barriers to pay.

And I’m probably as big an opponent as you can find to paying college players, yet I’m in favor of the transfer rule allowing a one time transfer without having to sit out. Guess we all have our priorities.

The transfer portal doesn't seem to be any busier than what it normally is. Granted, it probably will be because of the extra year of eligibility, and coaches/programs wanting players to move on so they can make way for the incomers, but as of now it seems pretty normal.
The year in residency rule is still in effect. It was only a one time blanket waiver that allowed for it to be lifted because of COVID. Granted, I think that it will go away for good this summer, but nothing has changed.
So...what is the problem here exactly??

I mean, you were literally going to point to whatever happened and say SEE I WAS RIGHT. We get it, you don't like the lightening of transfer restrictions.

No it hasn't happened yet. I'm just pointing to an article that seems to predict a similar future to the one I see.
I'll wait for it to happen to point out that I was right.
This is a message board afterall. Just seems customary to gloat.

Ok then. I apparently need to rethink the comprehension skills of the audience.
IF they change rule and eliminate the 1 year sit out, THEN.....everything I said.

You know, not everyone gets to work at the company they really wants to, it’s a 2 way thing. If they don’t want you, you won’t get to work there.
Same is going to be true for schools. They are still going to have a limit on rosters. Player A might really want to transfer to School B, but if school B doesn’t want them, or doesn’t have an opening, to bad. This may not effect top the top 40 players, but if certainly might effect many many others.

I love the new rule. It's going.to help teams like X. Smaller schools will get screwed by the rule. If X has a guy that wants to transfer it's probably bc he sucks or isn't playing enough aka kyky.

Instead of looking at this as oh no we're going to lose our best player, I tend to look at it as we might be able to pick up some better players that didn't work out somewhere else.

That’s how Nebraska fans are thinking about Wilcher and two other schools will be thinking about Tandy and Ramsey. Personally, I can see both CJ and Kyky being starters and dropping 12+ a game. Honestly though, I think I am most curious to see if Ramsey becomes a regular contributor at another school. Is his health not an issue anymore or will it always be keeping him from playing starter minutes?

I could see them dropping 12 plus on garbage teams. That doesn’t really mean much imo.
They saw the competition here for playing time, and didn’t want to compete. Sucks, but I’d prefer them transfer if that’s the case.
Now we have an opportunity to get guys in here who have shown some promise at the collegiate level, rather than high school. Like someone else said, this rule is highly beneficial for teams like Xavier. It’s terrible for mid majors.

well, so far his health (or his lack of ability) has prevented him from playing walk-on minutes.

This seems short-sighted. Good mid-major players may very well trade up to X, but why would it be that good Xavier players will never want to trade in their Buick for a Lexus? I should say, why wouldn’t it be just as likely?

ThatÂ’s the thing. We donÂ’t really know if he was exactly what we needed (a traditional big) but simply unable to get healthy or in shape enough to go for 20+ minutes or if he is now healthy and could have been the answer but was frustrated with his minutes at the end of the season or if he was never going to be a BE caliber player. Honestly I missed the part of the game where he last played for a little bit so I cant even judge him on how he played. I saw he scored a bucket.
I guess my point is that he looked the part of what we needed coming out of HS (I was impressed with his post play on tape) and I just feel like it is not 100% clear why he left or if he could have developed into the type of player we needed. One would assume the fact that he is going into the transfer portal means he is not giving up on basketball.

He played for like 2 min and had a sweet dunk. That was it. From those 2 min, many then extrapolated A LOT about his potential to contribute on a more consistent level. I would liked to have seen him get a bit more leash, but we always found ourselves in close must-win games, so I don't think there was a lot of opportunity.

That’s what’s frustrating - the kid barely got a chance to play much in games. Was Ramsey unable to go longer because he was having trouble with his legs or his stamina or did Travis just decided to pull him because he wanted Jason in there. It sure seemed like he was healthy.

Ramsey wrote on Twitter, "I want to thank coach Steele and the entire coaching staff for providing me with a family and forming relationships that I will never forget!
"I thank my teammates for always being by my side and for being my brothers I love y'all! My time at Xavier didn't go the way I planned but everything happens for a reason and I know the lord has something planned for me. Everyone knows how much I love Xavier and Xavier Nation but I think it's time for me to enter the transfer portal and take that next step as a basketball player. I am fully healthy and ready to work. Please respect my decision!"

I mean, I hope it's because he was getting winded in practice or couldn't remember defensive assignments or something. The alternative says a lot about Steele's coaching ability that I hope isn't true. I do think it's strange not to at least try your hand with the guy if you are Steele. You aren't getting the production you need out of the front court, and Ramsey at least brought some size to the table. I'm sure he could have handled at least 5-10 min per game, even if his conditioning wasn't quite where it needed to be.
We seem to have a lot of guys who are disappointed with their experience at Xavier though.

It is clear as day that Travis made some mistakes regarding lineups and minutes with certain players. Guess we’ll never know if Ramsey was one of the players who deserved more playing time. Hoping Steele really reflects and grows this off-season.
