Here are some hi lights from the scrimmage. Recorded from a X student (I think). KyKy and Zach looks like both have made major strides from Freshman to Sophomore. Nice to see floor open up vs last year.

I don't think Cap is a student, based on his twitter account. However, if you have Twitter, he is one account you NEED to follow. He is very active, and very entertaining.

Only Caveat might be that he was recently discharged from the Navy and he might have gone back to school. He also might still be in the reserves to help pay. That is only speculation on my part, however.

Cap is a must follow on Twitter though, I concur.

Based off Nuts and MOR's reco, I am giving CapX15 a follow on Twitter. The minute it gets political, I will unfollow.

Yeah. Gotta mute or unfollow some people to be unnamed. Cap X is solid Xavier though.

Can someone bring me up to speed on Kunkel? Is it expected he can play right away or does he have to wait a year first?

They're applying for a waiver this week. Who knows when it will be answered and decided.

Kunkel is on record as wanting to sit a year, get stronger, and more acclimated to Xavier and our style of play. When he transferred to X, he had zero intentions to seek a waiver. Now that the NCAA is giving waivers out left and right, they are pursuing the option. I am not optimistic about the waiver being approved for Kunkel.

I thought that it was also due to every one basically getting a "free year" as well right? Basically this year won't count so why not just try to get a waiver and see what happens?

Exactly. This year won’t count against his eligibility, so why not play?

Yes. According to a Steele interview, he pretty much said the same thing to him. Of course the NCAA knows of his initial desire to sit which probably doesn’t bode well for his chances.

The whole idea of a waiver is that the player changed his mind and wishes to play immediately.

Tell that to the wise and consistently rock-solid gatekeepers at NCAA high command.

The whole idea of a waiver is that the player changed his mind and wishes to play immediately.

Originally, the idea of the waiver was that there were circumstances that were a reason that the rule that a player sit out for a year should be waived. Such things as a sick parent or other things along that line that should be considered. The player not getting playing time at their original school and wishing to get more playing time, or the opportunity to play at a higher level institution, were not considered sufficient reasons.

There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to how they are deciding it now.

There was an article in the Cincy Enquirer with quotes from Travis, indicated they expect to hear on Stanley’s waiver this week and are finalizing the submission for Kunkel and hope to have that in soon.

I'm not expecting the NCAA to approve Kunkel. so he'll be part of the 10% who don't get approved. Stupid and arbitrary system.

Why did they wait so long for the Kunkel request ? And did someone eff up the Stanley request ? I'd venture Uk or Duke would have received same day approval, since they get the Amazon Prime treatment from the NCAA.

Actually, I think they have their own approval stamps for such minor issues like this. It’s the rest of us who have to wait and cross our fingers.

From the Cincinnati.com article

Steele said he expects a decision on Stanley's waiver next week and Xavier should have Kunkel's waiver paperwork ready to send to the NCAA early next week as well.

With all due respect, that’s not a guarantee that we will know anything this week, let alone on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Edit: Now watch, the NCAA will let Kunkel play, but won’t make that decision until December, and won’t let Stanley play at all and will somehow say his paperwork got lost. Or they will tell us tomorrow and this will be for naught.

I did check it out and that's why I was curious about your initial post. No where in the article mentions Tuesday or Wednesday....you made it sound like you had inside info specific to those days.

Tuesday has come and gone. So here's to hoping he gets green lighted today and your hunch proves to be accurate because, for a seemingly open/shut waiver, this has taken WAY too long.

Anyone have any info on Saturday's scrimmage?

I took this from the other board....

“Blue won 64-60 but white lead at half 31-23 Miles played on both teams and looked good at both ends with a nice baby hook and a block Kunkel DNP Odem and KyKy head to head and you can see that practicing against each other is a benefit making the other better. Odem played really good D and took it to the rim but Kyky had a personal 10 point run on some great shooting. Overall inside good outside shooting looked good. The second half was very competitive and Odem brought the D and some nice drives to spark his team. Game went right down to the wire, There are some slick passers on this team, and the new guys, especially the transfers looked like they will fit it. Half-court D was very good and better than last year's team but let's hope that lasts the whole year. Freemantle hit some pick and pop 3s with lots of 3s made by others. Griffin looked good inside with tips and post moves. Stanley and Griffin look strong scoring inside and they did well at the FT line after strong moves inside. One guy I wanted to see was Miles and he looked quick and agile like a posey/brown player with his length he might be a big disrupter. I know everyone always looks great during the preseason and I didn't want to be that hype reporter but when you see these guys they kind of get the adrenaline going. I see about 12 guys that will be fighting for minutes this year and if one guy goes down, heaven forbid, the next guy up will not be a scrub. Now we need Stanley and Kunkel to get approved. Where are you NCAA?”

Because of Kunkel himself. Originally he didn't want to play this year, then when the NCAA basically made this year a free year, Kunkel changed his mind and said lets go for it.
