That is stupid. 2 of 45 tests came back positive so they make all student athletes (men's and women's basketball) and Tier 1 staff quarantine for 2 weeks?

SEC football is doing it right. Saban tested positive, but after three negative tests, he was allowed to resume coaching.

And this just in.

Plenty of time for them to make our little party on the 25th, but obviously this shit is not going away any time soon. :pissedoff:

Football and basketball are not quite the same. Football is outside and typically grouped together by positions, while basketball is inside and closed quarters. The actual number of people in quarantine after a positive contact is not that much different. It just happens to be the entire basketball team vs the offensive and defensive lines for example.

It’s also early in the basketball process so they may still change their protocols.

They said 2 out of 45 tests...were both positives from the men's team, women's team, one from each?

What about a trainer or staff that is in contact with both teams and a player? If both teams are quarantined it would have to be someone in close contact with both teams. Otherwise I’d agree it’s excessive. No reason to think they’d shut both teams down for two men’s positives.

Our guys need to start licking doorknobs and get it over with. In all seriousness, probably better now than 2 months from now. It's going to be a long, very fluid basketball season..

I am sure Xavier and the rest of the Big East will file that idea under the worst plan ever.

If the whole team needs to quarantine for one positive test, then you can forget any semblence of order. There will be many games canceled every week if that is the case.

You can already tell this is going to escalate into the winter. It's already happening now.

At this point, the chances of everyone getting it are pretty high. Plus, it's not going away, even with a vaccine. The virus will be endemic.

Northwestern University ran a study, 20% of the blood samples had antibodies. Compared to what 4-5% for COVID test taken?

Per the article....”since Aug.28 Marquette Athletics has administered 809 tests, with only 8 coming back as positive.”

So, no. The chances of everyone getting it is NOT pretty high. Actually the chance of NOT getting it is what is pretty high for anyone. Even if we go with the Northwestern study showing 20% with antibodies, that still leaves 80% without.

What’s pretty high is overreaction and panic on the part of some that causes unnecessary problems for others.

We all have had it or will get it sooner rather than later. Nobody dies now from covid , thank God.

They are getting better at treating it, and/or it’s becoming less lethal, but to say NOBODY dies from it is simply not true.

I’m less concerned than I used to be, but still taking reasonable precautions for the sake of myself and others. Fortunately my wife’s test came back negative today, but she still feels like crap and I’ve pulled out my 10 foot pole!

Since February the US has a total of 8.2 million cases. About 1 million per month. The US population is about 350 million. At that rate, it would take 350 months for everyone to get it...that’s over TWENTY NINE YEARS. Anyone want to bet that we can’t find a vaccine long before that?

Didn’t any of you guys take a math class at X? :read:

I owe old Easy Ike a debt of gratitude! Calculus was hard until somebody taught it right! Never take the head of a department for a class! They make it harder than it needs to be.

I'm glad your wife's test came back negative. It's going to be a stressful Cold and Flu season this year for many / all of us I think.

I don't think I will ever understand the mentality of just giving in to COVID and hoping for the best. People are still dying (albeit at a lesser rate) and they are still going to hospitals. I imagine we would see the death rate go back up our hospitals become inundated with patients again.

It doesn't mean we go into shutdown - It means we take whatever reasonable measures we can to control the spread until we have a vaccine as well as improved treatment methods.
