It’s being reported by 24/7 and Rivals that Jusuan Holt will announce his commitment on a Sunday. Appears to be a 3 horse race with X and Alabama in the lead, with Georgia making a late push. Let’s hope this one for the good guys! C’mon J we want you here!

While he now resides in Ga., he is originally from Washington (the State). One site has him 6-6 185, another 6-6 200. I guess we'll see this weekend.

Snow did pick X, but I don't think his confidence level, while high, isn't quite that high. Based on what I've read, while I would be surprised if he goes elsewhere (Alabama), I wouldn't be shocked.

That said, Snow is over 90% of the time correct with his crystal ball predictions. "So we've got that going for us."

Snow had switched his prediction, and now has Holt to Alabama. So does the only other predictor on record. Hard to know if Holt changed his mind or of Xavier backed off him. Steele's comments on not jumping to fill his last position in order to keep open slots for the (allegedly) very strong 2022 class suggest that Xavier might have cooled on Holt.

Alabama offers immediate PT. X, not so much.

I think this speaks to the staffs thoughts on Colby Jones and CJ Wilcher. Holt is a fine player, but those guys are likely 3 year BE starters.

I like the optimism and hope that’s true! It would make it easier for me to keep up!

I assume this means we will bank the scholarship for the class of 22. Class of 2021 will be interesting to see how it pans out. A lot of misses with a solid signing and a project. Hopefully Steele can bring in a strong class of 2022.

Well he’s brought in 3 straight strong classes, don’t see why he can’t bring in a fourth.

Something smells funny. Med (6) for X for the last few weeks and now all of a sudden he’s a High (7-8) by ALL the “experts” for ‘Bama”? Maybe it’s nothing more than X cooling off, but it sure seems strange to see this happen at the last minute.

I read that same comment from someone else, but I’m not sure that’s true. Bama has a 6-9 JUCO, who is a Jr, and a 6-5 redshirt freshman 3-star, land no senior, listed in the same position. I’m not sure Holt gets immediate playing time with either program, and I doubt that any coach actually promises any freshman anything more than the opportunity to have immediate playing time. No guarantees.

He just did....it’s Alabama

“I will be taking my talents to The University of Alabama,” he told ZAGSBLOG ahead of his public announcement. “What made me pick them is just an overall fit for me. Play style, close enough to home, coach [Nate] Oats, and available minutes”.

I'm fine not getting a kid who uses the phrase, "I will be taking my talents to..."

"... available minutes." That pretty much sums it up. Hope it works out for him. Travis and company must feel like they are in good positions for the 2022 class with a lot of priority guys. When I read the Enquirer article I kind of got the vibe that filling that last scholly was no longer a priority for 2021 and they are happy with how things are looking currently:
"The 2022 class is loaded, nationally," Steele said. "It's a great class. I just want to make sure we do the right thing with this last spot because, on paper, we still have some scholarships to give, but sometimes that can clutter your roster and it doesn't make it quite as appealing for a really good 2022 kid."

If this is true, what's the point of even recruiting him? That's like a salesman asking a client to delay their purchase because the company is busy.

Telling a player that there will be playing time when there won't is like taking an order knowing full well you can't fulfill it.

Maybe the question was more related to the fact that we were already deep at that position, so maybe we should have spent recruiting resources elsewhere?

It's not like this was new information for the coach or the recruit. If the recruit's decision to eliminate Xavier this late in the game was "playing time", sounds like pretty much everyone wasted their time and money.

Holt was high school teammates (St. Francis HS) with Odom and I think AAU teammates as well. Same high school Kaiser Gates attended. Promising playing time when you can't guarantee it seems like a bad idea in this scenario. Best to be up front and not burn any bridges when you have a fairly strong connection to the school and state of Georgia especially with Jonas Hayes on staff. Let him know the situation and if he is comfortable coming despite no guarantee of playing time than great. He had X down to his final couple schools. Just went with Alabama and the better opportunity for immediate minutes.

In this day and age of transfers, I don't think it's a waste of time to keep recruiting a player that either you don't have room for currently or where you know you are behind one or two other schools. It may pay off a year or two down the road. Besides, not sure how much time and money is actually spent on an individual player.

Yep, X was actually considered the leader for him until the very end. One school (Bama) essentially guaranteed early playing time. The other school (X) didn't and couldn't. So he went to Bama. I have zero problem recruiting him, particularly since he almost came here.

What’s really strange about this thing is that Holt is listed as a shooting guard and Alabama has no less than 6 others on their current roster listed in that same position. Only one of which is a senior.
