I don't think Jaxon Hayes should have even been close to that high if we are basing the list on what was accomplished in high school because he basically had one good year at Moeller.

And Johnny Wolf should be on this list. He beat OJ Mayo and Bill Walker his senior year.

Can't see it unfortunately.

Hayes is incredibly overrated for this list. If it's more about what they actually did in high school then LaSalle Thompson or Tyrone Hill should have been ahead of him.
A glaring error to me was omitting Andrew Denson out of Purcell. Scored over 1000 pts in the old GCL and didn't play in college because he was the #1 pick of the Braves straight out of high school in 1984. Should have at least been in Hon mention group if not higher.

Good stuff though.

I can't see the list, but I forgot about Mayo and Billy Walker...

Two kids from West Virginia who always dreamed of playing for a small high school in Cincinnati.

Jerry Couzins (McNick) should be in the top 10

Not even an honorable mention for Josh Duncan? Just trying to make sure my alma mater if fully represented...

I can't see the article either, but I'd like to see who was ranked and see where Denson fits. He was a pretty good player but he was all Purcell had in those days. If the list includes Middletown Cris Carter should be on it - that guy could play some ball.

When I saw "Best Ever" I zoned out. Josh qualifies. Steve Thomas would too. :-)

For those that can’t see it...

First Team
Jerry Lucas, Middletown
Dave Cowens, Newport
Kevin Grevey, Hamilton Taft
Luke Kennard, Franklin
Jaxxon Hayes, Moeller

Alternatives
Brian Grant, Georgetown
Ty Hill, Withrow
Louis Orr, Withrow

Pretty impressive group

Yeah if we are talking about high school only Hayes has no business on the list.

So this is best players from Cincy, not best high school players. Jaxson Hayes got to the NBA on potential and wasn’t dominant in high school. If just High School, then Byron would be ahead of Hayes, Grant and Hill for sure. Brian Grant I believe didn’t play as a junior and I think Ty Hill didn’t start playing basketball until his junior year of high school. He was in the band prior to that I believe. I believe Byron is still in the top 30 for most points scored in a college career.

Jeez. If they are counting Georgetown High School as part of Cincinnati, they may as well count Romain Sato!!

Cincy to Middletown OH (Jerry Lucas) - 38 miles
Cincy to Georgetown OH (Brian Grant) - 42 miles
Cincy to Miamisburg OH (Romain Sato) - 44 miles

I guess the cut off is 43 miles...

To put Jaxson Hayes on the first team of that list is a sham. Clearly the writer did little to no research. Johnny Wolf played four years of Varsity hoops at St X and is the school's all time leading scorer. He also dunked on OJ Mayo. Hayes played one year on the varsity at Moe.

You're right Duncan should be on this list but I gotta respectfully disagree with you on the talent at Purcell in that era Chico. Just a year after Denson graduated they won the state championship in the big school division led by Dave Minor who made honorable mention on this list. They had a bit of a basketball Renaissance for a few years after that which produced some MAC type D1 talent.
