Mack is taking a page from the Bob Huggins playbook, although I don't think this one is a 2 for 1. November 13 at the Shoe.

I do respect that Mack likes to play people.

Having said that, I still hope he loses.

To UC? Man, tough call.

To UC? Man, tough call.

To Brannen more so than to UC. And for some reason, UC never really bothered me. Not sure why. I guess it's because since the time I first arrived at Xavier, we've pretty much dominated them. So I guess I never really went through any sort of a jealousy period.

Reluctantly I will root for the Cards. Can't ever root for UC. EVER!

So I guess I never really went through any sort of a jealousy period.

Jealousy period?? My hate for UC basketball runs deep, and has nothing to do with "jealousy". I am not jealous of their slimy program, or their junky conference, horse beating players, drunkard coaches, or anything else I have witnessed in the years I have been a Xavier fan.

Sure, I would prefer we also have a final four banner or 3 in our rafters, but I am not the least bit jealous of Clifton Community College.

I started hating them when Tony Yates was the UC coach, and the thugs (not gangsters) they used to recruit. Bob Huggins made them enjoyable to hate, as he was a walking punch line most of the time. The Huggins jokes could write themselves. He brought in a different type of animosity, especially with the questionable JuCo's and characters that filled his rosters. Most of my friends growing up were UC fans, so I can tolerate their fan base most of the time...but I can always find things to hate about their fans.

To know them is to hate them, but there is zero jealousy at the root of this rivalry.

I'm all for hating UC (or anyone else) for whatever reasons you want to hate them for. Just for me personally, they really don't bother me. From the time I got to Xavier, X has dominated the series and totally outperformed them on a national level. Even when we've lost, it's kind of been like "Oh well. We have more of what we want than what they do, and they've never really taken anything away from us or stopped us from getting anything. So, I don't really care about them. Louisville grinds my nerves a lot more than UC does.

Probably the only time I ever root for Chris Mack's Cardinals.

I get the sentiment....but they play Kentucky EVERY YEAR.

Whatever. I don't care.

I especially do not want Mack on the schedule. Just don't. I don't get people who do.

I want UC to win that game for one reason only. It will make Xavier's win over UC look even better. Mack leaving with an L is just a bonus.

I used to root for Louisville in that game, but not since Mack took the job.

Is there any team you do "hate"?

Is there any team you do "hate"?

Kentucky basketball, Ohio State football and basketball, and Alabama football. If you asked me to rank those I'm not really sure how I would. I guess it would depend on the day.

Louisville is probably right behind those.

I'm not really a fan of Duke either, although I don't mind them as much as I used to for some reason.

EDIT: This isn't so much a team, but the Indiana Basketball/Notre Dame Football group....No. Not a fan of those, uhh, fans. If you like Indiana, then great. If you like Notre Dame, then great. If you like them both in both sports, I can actually live with that. But if you identify with only Notre Dame in football and Indiana in basketball, then you shouldn't be allowed to claim either one of them. I don't know if this phenomenon exists anywhere else, but if it does then it needs to stop!

There used to be a pretty sizeable Kentucky basketball/Tennessee football contingent in certain parts of the Kentucky/Tennessee border region. That makes less sense now (which is saying something given that it never made any sense!).

It makes sense because so many people are “front runners”. UK football was the doormat of the SEC for so long, and TN Basketball has been in that spot more often than not. On the other hand, TN football has had quite a bit of success and is extremely popular in terms of number of fans that attend the games, and UK basketball has been championship caliper more often than not. It’s only a few hours to Lexington or Knoxville, either way, for many people that live in southern KY/northern TN. Many have relatives living in both states and travel extensively in both states. Both fan bases are also untied in their disdain for Louisville...lol.

This is only okay if someone in your family played basketball at UK, and someone else played football at UT. I don't even think it should even include your extended family. Just your immediate family! These bandwagoners need to be treated like the pariahs they are!

Well, I'm confused.
I'm a Xavier BB fan (duh).
We don't have football (although we did when I attended). So I picked a football team to support...Gamecocks.

Now, that's sort of like being a Cubs fan since we are the doormat of the SEC East, but still. I had to pick, and the other choice was Clempson.
No thank you.

Does all that make me a bandwagoner?

No, of course not!! For a couple of reasons...

You're not turning your back on Xavier's football team and deciding to root for a different one instead.

And, like you said, South Carolina isn't exactly a team that fans bandwagon toward.

The IUBB/NDFB thing isn't quite as bad as being a South Carolina basketball fan and a Clemson football fan, but it's still utterly ridiculous!

You strike me as a very sensible person. If someone told you they liked Clemson in football and South Carolina in hoops, what would you think?? That's entirely different than liking a local football team if your own alma mater doesn't have one. Well, unless that local team is Ohio State. No one should be able to like them!

They didn't live in South Carolina.

The USC football / UCLA basketball fan, especially when either or both are good. A paragon of shallowness in the capital of vanity, Los Angeles.

I live in Indy and IUBB fans are overthetop obnoxious even though they've done nothing for 20 years. Plus the bulk of IU fans can't spell IU. ND, I understand, I grew up with it and went to a high school run by the Brothers of Holy Cross, who run ND. Yeah, they can be obnoxious, but a football Saturday on that campus should be on everyone's bucket list. It's spectacular. And I'm not much of a fan of ND.

But seriously I am still salty at Mack but I will never hope UC wins any game ever in any sport.

I hope UC is the worst team with the worst record we play every game. It would delight me to no end if they won zero games every year. I couldn't care less how they "help" Xavier's resume. Especially now that we are in the BE with the schedule we play.

UCLA basketball and USC football? You've gotta be kidding me!! I actually didn't think it existed anywhere other than in Indiana. It just doesn't make any sense to like two different schools in two different sports who both play that sport.

Maybe not the same thing you are discussing since neither program has the historical relevance but I know there are people on this board who are (obviously) XU bball fans and UC football fans.

Mack essentially quit on this program before his final season was even up. Maybe not in the actual games, but that final recruiting class was complete shit. Not the type of recruiting class you would expect from a program that had been a #2 seed, followed by an Elite Eight, followed by a #1 seed. And you can only sign Dontarius James, Keonte Kennedy and Jake Walter? And this is your alma mater.

I just can't ever see myself wanting Mack to win a game against anyone.
