Clearly you don't know MOR in real life. One of the biggest and best Xavier fans I know. He votes with his wallet and his voice when it comes to his opinions about X. Guy would literally give the shirt off his back to someone in need.

Maybe you don't like his point of view, but that doesn't make him any less of fan of Xavier.

Relax, I would say everyone would agree with him that you cant miss the tournament two years in a row. (though I do think they may have been PIG this year).

I have optimism for a couple of reasons, the biggest being recruiting. Continue to recruit at an all time high and good things will come. I like the talent he is bringing in. I think you have to give him a few years to adjust to head coaching (like Sean and Mack). The difference between them? Travis is doing it in the toughest conference in the country (at least last year was). I know it didn't look like he adjusted- but he did turn this team into a very good defense. You have to give credit to that.

I would ask MOR if there is anything he has liked from Steele so far. (Even if it is just he is recruiting at a high level).

This is the most important takeaway, just because you don't agree with someone's viewpoint doesn't mean you can't sit down and have a beer with them. Never met him in real life but I know what a big fan of X MOR is and how much he wants X to win. And he is a great guy from what I know. In the past I was looking for old XU games online that didnt exist, he contacted me for my address to send me copies he had of some all time great Xavier games.

As soon as I saw you post this I knew it wasn't going to go the way you had hoped. While I disagree with MOR on his recent opinions on Steele and some other topics he is a well respected poster on this board and a huge X fan.

I have met MOR for beers at Dana's, I've met him at games. I have met him at the Butler County Steak Fry and you'll never meet a more passionate alumnus and walking encyclopedia of Xavier basketball. Like Dwest&Po-Z he has sent me numerous classic Xavier basketball games on DVD. You may not always agree with him but no one bleeds more Xavier than he does. He is the guy who would give you the shirt off his back. To be accepted into the Lew Hirt Society you have to be special and that he is.

I didn’t like the original title of the Steele thread just as I do not like the title of this one.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it is important to keep things civil when we have these discussions.

Is one fan being too hard on the head coach or is another fan being too easy on him? Frustration is only natural when when expectations feel like they are not being met. When a team struggles and even feels like it is regressing at times, who is to blame? The coach? The players? The administration? A combination of them all?

No one is going to have the same exact take and that is what keeps discussions interesting, as long as we stay classy and reasonable, we introduce opinions based on some relevant information/stats/ facts, we are open to other’s opinions and we remember every one of us wants the same thing - the best for X- we should be able to have some fun and intelligent conversations - without the need for any blatant meanness directed towards any individual.

Travis Steele is a class guy. He knows his teams have underperformed. Still, it is frustrating as hell to be a X fan, expecting a much better product. I get MORs frustration. I feel his frustration. I think most (if not all) of us feel the frustration of a team that -for whatever reason- has not been as good as it could have been.

We just added an elite PG and some other talented players who can shoot well. We have an athletic 6’11” redshirt freshman itching to shine. We have a returning senior guard who could be All Big East. We have two returning players who were named to the Big East All Freshmen team. We have a returning transfer who ought to be better as well as a coach who knows he still needs to prove himself. Let’s “X our fingers” that all those things add up to a much improved team next season.

Hett, you and I have been around these parts for a long time, and I'm not going to get into an argument with you, because it's merely the "Glass Half Full/Glass Half Empty" viewpoint.
But, to me, by definition, "Fair" is mediocre per dictionaries. As I said before. Mediocre means NIT's and anything less than that gets you CIT/CBI. Good gets you NCAA and Excellent gets you Final Four contenders. The vast majority of survey respondents rated performance and on court decisions Mediocre or worse. That is not what I want this program to be or consistently become.
Maybe he can turn it around, but only time will tell. That's it.
