With the forced shutdown unending I've been going back and watching a lot of old classic Xavier games from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's.
There are two guys that stand out from those games, were just nails, continually exceptional and many times get lost in the shuffle of all the superstars that X had back in those days. I think they are continually underrated and one is joked upon incessantly because of the unfortunate way his career ended, but that can't take away from the fantastic players they were. I'm talking Jamie Gladden and Dedrick Finn.
Jamie gets overshadowed because he played with Ty Hill, D Strong, ATrain Williams, Jamal Walker and Brian Grant. but the guy averaged 14.6 ppg, scored almost 1,800 points for his career, hit numerous big shots and shot 44% from 3. He also scored 34 points one night at the leaky barn in Indy. Jamie received his Xavier degree and is happy in the Atlanta area as a AVP LMCC for Litton Financial Services.
Everybody remembers D Finn coming up big in the 2004 Run and the half court shot he hit vs Mississippi State, but dude was an amazing defender and hit numerous big shots too. Many forget the 2003 game at St. Joes with David West that XU won in overtime when Joes had Jameer Nelson, the year before both schools went on Sweet 16 runs. All Dedrick as a freshman did was score 18 points, hit 4 huge free throws without touching a rim and started that game as a frosh. Of course everybody remembers Chalmers, and West and Myles and Sato, but Finn was amazing. I have no idea what happened to end his Xavier career, but it is nice to know that he has done well after a few scrapes since he got out. He is now back in his home area of Evansville, In and is a Health, Safety and Environmental Technician for PGP International, a food production company. There is a great picture of Dedrick and his son on his LinkedIn profile. He received his Xavier degree. I wish he'd come back to XU to get the thanks he so richly deserves.
