As much fun as it is oscillating back and forth between Travis Steele being one of the best young coaches in the country after a win and being fired tomorrow after a loss, there's only 4 games before the Big East Tournament. It's time to go on the record with how the next few weeks will unfold for Team 98.
I think this team will play a second round game in the NCAA Tournament. What does everyone else think?

Team '98 lost to Washington in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. My senior year. That was unfortunate.

If they get to the NCAA tourney I think they can advance. They can shut down three point shooting teams and have some guys that can get it done. It wouldn’t shock me if they made the sweet 16 or lost in the first round. But at the same time this is a team that could lose 3 of the next 4 and be NIT bound. It all depends on who shows up. As to your question. This teams finds a way to get to the NCAA tourney and goes to the sweet 16.

My heart tells me they win one game in the tourney (a real game, not the play-in game).
My head tells me that I'm still not even sure they get there. I hope they get there.

Think they make it, dont think they win a game. Of course, when the bracket comes out, I'll think....easy path to the final four

Lol...will be doing the same. Minus the Wake and Marquette game, road games have been somewhat decent which is a plus come tournament time. If you look at teams outside of top 10 in NET road records, we look ok.

If a 8/9 seed (probably won’t happen at this point), would love to see an Azubuike vs Ty match up. Might get his his lunch handed to him, but like the thought.
If we can just get in, a lot of teams would not want to face us. PLEASE get in, then make some waves!

I'm not sure why any team would look at us and think they'd rather play some other Tournament quality team. I mean, we kinda are what we are. But I like the optimism!

maybe not as a team, but i guarantee you at the least there are not a lot of big men anxious to go up against tyrique

I think we beat DePaul, then lose 3 straight to end the regular season. I think we then go 1-1 in the B.E.T.
Alas, on selection sunday, as we all sit on the edge of our seats with our fingers crossed, we get left out and head back to the National Invitational Tournament.
Hope like heck I'm wrong.

At 68 yrs I savor each day. I savor each game. 1/4 of BE season still left & BE Tourney. I predict a win tonight vs DePaul. In no hurry to jump my thinking to Post Season.

Considering X is 2-8 vs the top 5 teams in the Big East,I don't see anyone too concerned about playing X over other teams with or without Tyrique, X can have those out of body experiences every now and then where they shoot over 35% a a team beyond the arc but most of the time, they are a consistently poor shooting team. Nova had zero respect for X shooting and sagged in the lane. Every time Marshall tried to drive there there 3 people waiting for him. They also made Jones kept the ball away from the basket (mainly in the first half) forcing him to have to dribble to get a shot Tyrique wants. He has been great but is a player who struggles outside 3 feet. Unless he is dunking, he tries to use the backboard and get in that position. Tyrique has been great but point being here, X is easy to guard.

2-8 is just getting the other teams right where we want them for the stretch run.

I think I’m all honestly X finishes 8-10 19-12. Wins one in beast and loses a close one in second game to go to 20-13. That maybe enough for PIG

Here is yet another reason why I love this board: we have an 80 page thread on firing Travis (although it is largely flippant), we have collectively roughed up this team on here for 4 months, BUT 46.5% of those voting in this poll not only think we are making the Dance (which is certainly a good proposition), but think we are winning a game in a dark uniform as well.
Man, I love the optimism of this fanbase (or at least those active members of this site). That is some crazy stuff you guys are on, but I am here for it.

I think the optimism stems from the fact that most people think that this year's tourney is wide open and that just about anybody who gets in as an at-large team has a chance to win some games. This team has glaring flaws and is downright painful to watch...even in victory. That being said, a favorable match-up and bracket could have this team playing in the s16. I just think the landscape is nuts this year..OSU was ranked #1 in the country at one point this year. Let that sink in....

It is just hard to say without seeing the bracket. I would safely put money on Xavier making the tournament at this point. I could absolutely see a favorable draw and win a couple games but more often than not against better teams I see this team make too many mistakes- I'd bet on losing first round.

It's also a matter of looking at teams likely to be on the 6/7/8 line - not going to be a group of world beaters. I'd definitely want to avoid Illinois (and Marquette, but fortunately that's out of our hands), but other than that, not really a murderer's row of teams Xavier can't match up with.

Time to play this post season game. We win out in regular season to finish 10-8. We become the 4 or 5 seed in BE Tourney & win 1st BE Tourney game against Marquette or Providence. We then beat #1 seed to go to BE Tourney Finals & win so we have Auto-Bid. We finish season on 7 game win streak & get a #5 seed for the Big Dance. During said time frame Q gets his game back, Carter makes bunnies & KyKy explodes for 20 or more in a game or two. Now I will go back to smoking what brings on these delusions of grandeur.

Fixed that for you. In the last 2 games he's 0-4 on layups, and 4-4 from behind the arc.

Normally they would not match two teams from the same conference in the first and usually the second game.

The fix is Carter making Layups at a 75% or better clip. Continuing to hit 3s is nice, but Layups should be made at a much higher clip than 3s

Teams from the same conference can never match up in the first round (the exception being a conference getting 3 teams in the opening round in Dayton). They also try to avoid rematches in the 2nd round unless the teams faced each other only once during the regular season.
Another exception would be if BYU's placement in the bracket causes havoc for the Selection Committee.

I seem to be in the minority, but a team with this much talent, albeit underachieving, the light that has been flickering dimly, starts to brighten, we win the first one easily, get a favorable second round match-up, and then...we pays our money and we takes our chances.
Provided we get paired up with teams with no outside shooting and no post presence, we MIGHT make it to the 2nd weekend. Short of that, we get a particpation trophy, and head to the offseason.

To the extent you believe in 3P% defense as an individual stat, Xavier is actually one of the best in the country at #20.

Yea we’re very good at it, something I appreciate greatly. Mack’s teams were awful. Look no further than both villanova games. We completely shut them down. Unfortunately we didn’t take advantage but it bodes well

That's going to be tough to do with the Big 10 getting 26 or so teams in the brackets this year according to the experts!

And I thought I was the only person who thought of this. That win would’ve put them at 14-13. I think they missed three straight front ends of a one and one. Kind of reminded me of those free throws we missed against Marq. Having 12 out of 14 conference teams is nonsense.
