Xavier needs a new scoreboard

Have you ever noticed how small our scoreboard is compared to new arenas? UC’s is huge and even that POS of arena up north along that polluted creek or whatever it is has a big screen. When is Xavier going to upgrade? And that pitiful tiny scoreboard against the back wall is useless. Of course it’s not my money but just wanted to know if they have any plans to upgrade?

It is my understanding that an upgraded scoreboard is in the planning stages. Probably 2-3 years away from being actually installed at Cintas.

I’d rather make FT’s and the occasional 3 pointer.

I was there last weekend and the scoreboard issue didn’t jump out at me.....but that was after several hours at Zip’s and Dana’s. Everything looked just fine to me!

I’m sure they will continue to make improvements where and when necessary.

personally i think UC's and UD's look absurdly big. it's overkill. ours should be bigger i think, but not too much

I would rather they spend their money on a sound system that actually works. Half of what currently comes out of their POS sound system is unintelligible.

When that sound system was installed it was in an audio magazine for being one of the best. I agree though at time in unintelligible.

I was at an event in which Greg Christopher talked very briefly about the sound system. He is very aware of the problem. Said they have had several companies in to try to analyze/fix the problem, but the fix always involves putting baffling in the ceiling. The problem is that the baffling also deadens the crowd noise and X is not willing to live with anything that deadens crowd noise. (I agree with that.) As far as i am concerned, one fix would be to get rid of the Andy Mac halftime interview....you cannot hear it and it is probably just coach-speak anyway.

Geesh I don't know. Ours is fine. I don't watch it much anyway and it blocks my view from the player/team stat scoreboard anyway. I hope they take that into consideration if they are going to upgrade.

One thing I wish they’d “fix” isn’t on the main scoreboard. On the board above the students, it lists, from top to bottom, FG %, 3 point %, and then FT %. The board on the facing of the upper deck doesn’t list them in the same order. I think it swaps the 3 point % and FT %. Make them the same!!!!!!

Well they need a bigger scoreboard to show all the stats. And they need to put two mini boards on each side of the back wall. Right now they have that pitiful highschool board roght in the middle of the back wall and a lot of people can’t see that. Need one on each end. Spending other people’s money is fun!!!

Just sat in MSG and the scoreboard was almost intimidating. Loved it. Yes, PRO venue site, so not saying we need to go huge. Also, not convinced we should spend our money there, but will roll with the crowd.

Was trying to see if we had any previous negative interactions I couldnt remember. Didnt see any but saw that. So to be fair the last point in my maturation process you are remembering is less than a year ago! Def no progress though, you are correct!

I actually completely agree a scoreboard upgrade is needed (which is why it's in the works).

From what I remember from a few years ago, the Cintas renovations were a 3 phase master plan.

1: seating upgrades (sideline seats, overhang, and the woods etc)
2: behind the scenes upgrades (locker room/weight room etc)
3: technical upgrades (scoreboard and sound system)

I’m fairly sure they’ll address the scoreboard soon. And with how well phases 1 and 2 turned out I’d expect phase 3 to be fantastic as well.

Does X have room on campus to build a new arena (years down the road) once cintas starts to get outdated? What is the life span for a college arena? I know some have been around forever and still fill up. Does X live with Cintas forever or do they eventually build a new one 10-20 years from now. X could build a 15k seat arena and probably still fill it.

With a claim like that they have to be better at the restaurant than at Cintas. I mean for a burger at Cintas they are good but if that is the same way they taste in the restaurant then I wouldnt even be able to put them in the top 10.

I dont know your answer about space but I would imagine if it ever got to that point they would just gut Cintas and do something in the existing structure. Not sure they could add a lot more seating though.

You can certainly find better cheeseburgers with more things on them, different cheeses, sauces, sautéed this, or marinated that. For a simple cheeseburger, you can’t beat Quatman’s.

Oh, and I would like to see a bigger scoreboard. Not huge but big enough that I can read the half-time stats from the upper walkway. I'm staring right at it and can not read it. Some will say I must have physical and psychological issues that make it difficult to see, not to mention old age and the Wood's brew, and they would be right. But, hey, help a brother out who can't keep stats in his head because, well, see above.
