How is DePaul doing "crowd-wise" this season? Any chance tonight will resemble past years where it seemed there were more X fans in the stands?

Xavier (especially Naji) is going to roll tonight and we're going to start talking ourselves into a 6 seed with the way the schedule breaks the rest of the way.
Or this will be quoted at about 11:30pm ET like the posts from the front of the Seton Hall game thread.

They got about 9,000 vs. Butler last week. Their arena holds 10.3:

I think the Week Night game will put a damper on the X contingency. I have for the past three seasons made this a weekend event (there new stadiunm is great by the way). Since it's an early game and I have to work on Wednesday, I didn't make the trip. I think it'll cut down on the Indy contingent that travels there at least.

That was a Saturday game. I'm sure the Indianapolis area made a weekend of it in Chicago.

Charlie Moore really concerns me. He has nearly an identical game to that of Mo Watson for CU a few years back and that guy gave us fits....small, lightning fast dude with elite BBIQ that has his fingerprints on everything. Looking forward to seeing what Tandy can do with him. KyKy matches his quickness nicely.

Actually, they're not a very good FT shooting team, either - 65%, same as us.

Hey, don’t get your Spanks in a bunch. You’ve persuaded me. I get it now... our outstanding coaching staff has their hands tied with this terrible roster, despite the awesome job they did recruiting it. There’s just nothing they can do to help these poor , pathetic players improve at this point in the season. I mean who could, really?

He got another double double today before even playing.
Shannon tweeted a stat correction from a previous game where a rebound was incorrectly given to Naji and it has been fixed and given to Jones which gave him 10 rebounds that game and gave him another double double. Tied with Reed for tops in the conference and 4th nationally.

I feel like Tandy on Moore is a bad defensive match up speed aside. He’s been lost on defense most of the season. If he’s not hitting shots at a good clip, it’s a bad match up and X would likely lose.

Not sure where you came up with this from considering it's been talked at lengths about the quality of the Big East and the numerous opportunities at hand still for Q1 wins, if we continue to play with the fire that has been seen the last couple games *knocks on wood*, we'll be dancing quite comfortably.
It's crazy how much more active we are on offense (and defense). Steele must have finally got his message across. And it doesn't hurt when the threes go down.
I would love to know wtf he must have said for the switch to just kind of come on, but it's nice to finally see some improvement in that regards, great first half, and now just have to close them out in the second, definitely much more enjoyable to watch when we aren't doing mind numbingly dumb things.
If you have to watch the replay over and over, the call should stand.

Here comes the typical, we have a lead we can coast mentality. Take the damn ball right at Reed and give him his 4th foul. Letting jones stand at the top of the key with the ball for 10 seconds basically wastes the entire possession.

Forced shots ARE turnovers.

Just like the Seton Hall game, thank Gawd for the first 10 minutes. We had 29 points after the first 10:22. It took us another 27:13 of playing time to match that 29 point total. And not to demean the defense, and Thank Gawd also for Tyrique the Manimal, but DePaul was awful until the last 5 minutes of the whole game. AND, finally, Thank Gawd that Leito is still such a trash coach that he couldn't see how we were not good under full court pressure defense with questionable ball handlers all over the court until the very end.
Look, I'm overjoyed for the Roadkills, but damn. In a lot of ways, when you take the hot early shooting away from both games, this team still has significant issues. I still can't see what, other than a play or two, what Jason Carter brings to the table. But man, does he get minutes. I'm graciously accepting the early points, but I still have reservations. The offense is much more free flowing as well. It's certainly not yet pristine, but it's much better. We've become harder to guard because of it.

Yes, just a little friendly ribbing. And no, I wasn’t defending anyone’s particular comments on backboards or layup lines. That said, i usually assume those kinds of comments are tongue-in-cheek, meant more in this case to highlight frustration with the sloppiness and poor fundamentals consistently exhibited by this team.
My poking is more to do with some people’s unwillingness to consider That coaching may play a part in the stupid way we often play. It’s like if they say it out loud, it might come true. You in particular seem quite willing to throw shade on the players for the ugly play, but you are on auto-alert to rebuke anyone who suggests that coaching might be a work in progress here. We all know Steele and staff know how to run a major college practice, because any genuine opinion to the contrary is nonsensical. But running a practice doesn’t make them great coaches. Who really knows what does ,but I don’t know how anyone can make a positive assessment of a coach’s prowess unless and until you are at least seeing growth and development, if not wins themselves.
Look, despite winning the last two, we still played like goofballs more than we should have. That said,we’re finally seeing something that resembles a product of good coaching and effective leadership. Think back to how frustrating even the wins were earlier this season. The last two haven’t felt like that, at least for the most part. I’m not sure why it takes these players and coaches until February to figure it out,But here’s to hoping the trend continues.

I think we're pretty much in agreement. 100% with you that there's (a lot) of room for growth as far as the coaching staff is concerned, I just feel like some of the criticism is unwarranted (and frankly, stupid). For example, I have no issue with people who want to question why Steele waited so long to shake up the lineup or why he (both seasons) waited so long before micro-managing the offense a bit more, but it's hard to resist when we have people who want him to run rec league practices, pull the redshirt off a guy like Miles, or sit the team's (far and away) best players for every mistake they make in a game.

I agree with the last statement the most, you always want to peak in March right? If we're on an upward trend now, it's good, a season is a lifetime and it can be incredibly frustrating especially when you have the type of leadership this X team has. Our core 4 should be more polished, and yes we make bonehead mistakes at an alarming high rate, but you're right the product has been so much more palatable. Hopefully we can keep this type of intensity going for the rest of the season, and work that into a tournament run, but when we play well you can see the talent level this team has.
Also one thing I want to mention, is that I publically mentioned that I was a bit shocked Tyrique wasn't the senior leader rallying the troops during our slide, because of how vocal of a guy he is, and the passion he plays with. This quote from the presser cemented that Rique is attempting to be the guy I know he is, and this is a public apology for questioning Tyrique Unchained. “I’ve got eight more games left in this uniform, and I’m just giving my brothers my all,” Jones said after Xavier improved to 15-8 (4-6 Big East). “I’ve only got a couple games left. I heard a commentator say, ‘Around this time, seniors step up,’ and that’s what I’m trying to do.”

Xavier is averaging 17 turnovers and 6 made threes while shooting a combined 26/44 free throws the last two games. What about that isn't repeatable? The defense has just stepped up recently, that's the only thing that changed
Well, defense and rebounding, but your point stands. Steele took a lot of heat for *dodging* questions about the offense, while doubling down on the team’s need to focus on defense. The last two games have made it clear that defense will be this team’s One and only path to success.

Exactly. Not to mention, exploding for huge scoring spurts (that are nowhere near sustainable) is just a thing that good teams do - not something to point to and question.
Yeah, but bad teams will also have offensive outbursts throughout a long season. There’s no reason not to point out that our offensive outbursts the past two games might simply be outliers. Certainly they are to this point.

Yeah, I mean there's no question this is a bad offensive team and those spurts are outliers.

I think we're pretty much in agreement. 100% with you that there's (a lot) of room for growth as far as the coaching staff is concerned, I just feel like some of the criticism is unwarranted (and frankly, stupid)...
This is fan banter. It’s all stupid. :)

KyKy is shooting over 40% in BE play. I would suggest there is a direct correlation to wins and when he scores over 10 PPG. Not sure what our record is, but I bet its pretty damn good. Also, he's getting more comfortable putting the ball on the ball on the floor and getting into the lane. That is a HUGE development for him.

KyKy needs at least 15 MPG and should be getting 6-7 shots a game from here on out. The kid can shoot

I think it is really important to point out that these offensive outbursts have been directly caused by stifling defense which makes me feel that they are not as big of outliers as it might be at other times. You can see the hustle and confidence that is caused by these lockdown defensive play. Some of the 3pt shooting during those times is probably not something we can count on, but we are also dominating the boards at those times as well getting second chance points.
We will see if we can keep it up, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have similar stretches in more games this season.

Rebounding leads to more shots. More shots leads to more points so the theory goes. More points leads to more wins. More wins leads to a much happier XavierHoops thread. I'm all for rebounding.

More like 20-25 minutes and 8-10 shots.

Yeah, this is the most encouraging thing that is becoming consistent to me. Kyky is figuring it out, although there needs to be an awareness that in a close game, where defense is needed near the end, the staff HAS to play some offense/defense subs with Kyky & Bryce Moore. The fact that Kyky is on the floor is making a huge difference in how teams have to defend and if he and Scruggy are on the floor together it opens up the best of Paul- driving to the hoop and his spinnerama moves.

This is really what I think we knew would be successful the last couple years because of the skill set of our Core 4. Even last year we were hoping Welage would be knocking it down at a consistent rate, KyKy's definitely growing more comfortable into the speed of D1 ball which is something we all figured would happen sooner rather than later. Him being athletic and able to drain the deep looks has definitely correlated with better play. I wish Bryce Moore could get into rhythm behind the arc as well, I like rooting for him, plus Goodin has looked much better since coming off the bench, we'll see how this works out over the course of the next few games, but there's definitely a change to the play, not overly significant, but enough to lead to some positive vibes moving forward.
