it will tighten but this is sweet. The only game I have never seen not tighten when I thought it would was the semifinal with Villanova over Buddy Heild Oklahoma where the lead kept growing. Steele has to be ready with timeouts and strategy..they could come out pressing after (probably ) made free throws

this was to be expected but would be nice to defend shooters without fouling which we have done. Fremantle to Carter would work against Lipscomb but not here sad to say.

I went to go get some food for lunch wasn't even paying attention to this game as I assumed Seton Hall would boat race Xavier today.
When I finally got back home I turned on the game and first score I seen was X up 33-18 and I was wow then I heard it was 30-6 at one point and I was disappointed they blew that big of a lead. You knew Hall would make a run but now the game is within losing distance and to lose a game when up 30-6 would be season crushing to the highest level.
Before the game started we all thought X would lose but to lose now would be awful.

02-01-2020, 11:54 AM
So if you're on the SH board you're thinking "if we can cut the lead in half or get it under 10" ... um .. well they did. Here I'm thinking how devastating it would be to give this up after such a big lead. And I'm not confident up 12 at the half. And that sucks. But screw it. Play semi-even in the 2nd and we're good.

There was a whistle with 1.3 or so seconds which I thought was a foul, then all of the sudden everyone started heading to the locker room.

We're gonna see how Steele can motivate coming out. You SH is not going to shoot 25/15% in the 2nd. I'm assuming Powell wakes up as he usually does. I can't believe I'm not confident up 12 but I agree it's sure as hell better than down 12.

Xavier is ranked 300/350 in free throws. So you are way wrong!!!! We are not the worst. I believe St. Louis is at 58% we are at 66-68% can’t remember.
We would be up by 22 if:
Carter could learn to use the backboard.
Carter could handle a pass in the paint
Carter doesn’t travel
Scruggs didn’t dribble into two turnovers
Carter and Scruggs and others could make close to their season average in free throws

Great great win today and total unexpected and I am super happy about the win but..............
This makes the loss to Marquette that much more painful a game that X should won.
If X had beat Marquette this win today would have actually likely put X into the tournament (at this time).
I am totally shocked they could go on the road and beat a Seton Hall team that has been red hot but where has this been all year ? This is the team I expected to see all year long. Sure they wouldn't do this every game but they should been winning those home games they lost.
Well if anything this breaths life back into X's chances for a tournament bid but damn needed that Marquette game so bad now.

Obviously this one. Road win against a top 10 team. This lets the team know when they give the effort they can beat any team in this conference. A Marquette win doesn't do that.

the sad thing about Marquette is that for 6 minutes McWeen played better than Marcus could have played and would have ended the game with 2 pos if Howard had played. Also Anim would not have sniped the live ball turnovers that turned the game around

9 games left. 4 at home and 5 on the road. If they win the home games and steal some more on the road they will be in the tourney. Could win all on the road if they lock in and play like they are capable. I know Butler but you stop Baldwin you beat them in my opinion.

The domination of the #10 team was something.
Out rebounded them 51-22.
Shot a good percentage from the floor, including 3's.
Just think of how good this team has the potential to be if the correct 2 things that ARE fixable.
We had 18 TO's, they had 6. And we shot an anemic 45% from the FT line.
Hopefully they have turned the corner, and this game provides much needed confidence.

True but oh well. I also dont really like powell's attitude...I have seen him play a lot outside of just against x, and he is one of those guys who thinks hes a lot better than he actually is. One thing about him, he does celebrate himself after every shot he makes, so I guess that makes him nba ready.

Definitely owe DePaul one after taking what was the low-point loss of last season. They've only played 2 games in conference play that didn't come down to the closing seconds - one was a blowout win against Butler at home and one was a blowout loss at home against Creighton. I thought that was the Bluejays' best performance this season, but then they had their own big roadkill at Nova today.
One thing Xavier did right today was completely make Seton Hall a one-and-done team today. No second chance points whatsoever for the Pirates, even though they won the FT and turnover battles. Then again, did anyone notice they made their first half run when Tyrique got into foul trouble?

One question about our inbounding after SH made a basket. If we know they’re going to press, why do we take so long to try to get the ball in play? It seems like we’re just giving them time to setup their pressure.

Starting the game out hot and converting inside is a great reason why X won today ( 30 - 6 run) .
Is that the recipe? It can't happen every game, can it? I hope so. Proud of X has they kept Seton Hall at bay as they tried to shoot themselves back into the game.
IF X plays this top 20 defense here on out, X might reach a 9-9 record. Might..

Did it ever occur to the geniuses who were critical of our coaching staff for starting Jason Carter to make four starters in the lineup who were 6'7 or larger? Do those same geniuses realize that the Hall has 3-4 guys who are 7'2"? And finally, did the geniuses realize that we had a 51-20-something rebound win over Seton Hall? Did it ever occur to the geniuses that without that rebound disparity (especially on the offensive boards) we would have had NO CHANCE of defeating Seton Hall today? And remember, it was the point guard position (Q and Paul) who lead our team in turnovers --- not our 4 big guys!
I heartily agree, however, that something must be done to cut down on the number of turnovers and missed free throws. Anybody have a magic wand we can give Travis as a belated birthday gift?

Because there has to be a mental adjustment after starting over 100 games. It's entirely possible he may not start again. If that's the case, it has to be a blow to the ego to some extent. Just hope he embraces the 6th man role because he can be a very effective weapon off the bench if he doesn't hit any snags mentally.
I personally loved Scruggs starting at point, with Naj at 6'7" slotted at the 2....that is gonna give everybody fits!

And what's the downside in starting ZFree? I mean it's pretty obvious he's gonna give max effort and has no real liability you can point to. I am hoping today's starting lineup is what we see going forward.
BTW, his 3 ball looks pretty damn good and he shoots it with confidence. With Tandy's fine stroke and Marshall's recent surge from distance, along with Q and Moore showing signs of life from the arc, we may surprise and have a very formidable 3 point roster down the stretch!

KyKy's rim run at 7' Gill for the and 1 and his spot up 3 down the stretch knocked the wind out of their sails. Loved that he attacked the big guys.

Sorry, folks. Been really busy the last 3 days, but I'm here.
Of course, we're all overjoyed with the win, outstanding job to come back mentally strong after a kick to the balls vs, Marquette. But....
Yes, we came out strong and Seton Hall slept walked through the first 12 minutes. Not to say that we didn't earn that 24 point lead, however we shot 11-15 in that span. Shooting 70% is not going to happen very often, Combine that with The Hall missing everything and there's the ballgame. The fact is, though that The Hall outscored us 56-44 over the last 28 minutes. Yeah, you may chalk it up to us coasting or whatever, but the point is that there will be no other game this year where the first 12 minutes goes like that and we didn't play them even the rest of the way despite what I saw with no loss of effort.
Before I am fully back in, I need to see consistent effort game to game from the whole group. We absolutely need to win these next two and play and coach well. Absolutely. I hate losing to Butler, but I'll accept it if we play hard and smart. After that, a loss to Nova is acceptable (painful) but then other than that game we need to run the table.
Has this group learned all of its lessons? Film at Eleven...

We had our run (30-6 to start), they had their run (17-5 to finish 1st half). We played them even in the 2nd half; including out scoring them by 5 in the last 7 minutes.
