You know it’s rock bottom when we have posters clamoring for a f’in box and one like this is a 6th grade CYO game. Ridiculous! Box and 1!!!

It was a flagrant foul though which is like a technical. I am 99% sure that Steele got to pick in that situation unlike when Wojo picked Jones earlier in the game due to Naji injury.Correct. Steele put carter on the line

You guys are a bunch of pansies. This team can and will get it figured out.

I say they make the tourney.

Which tourney? CBI?

He is a moron then. Plain and simple. He does not THINK through a game. He simply looked at who has a higher % for the year and went with Carter. Naji WANTED the FT's (not to say he would have made both).......Carter missed the ENTIRE rim on a bunny put back with 14 seconds left and the game tied. He has not settled into his role and playing at a higher level. That might not ever happen.

Late in the game Naji missed two important FT's. In the moment- leaders need to step up and make those. It has been a long two seasons under Steele. Watching games is rough

Can I have some of what you’re smoking? That’s some righteous shit. The ONLY way this team makes the NCAA tournament is by winning the BE tourney. I don’t see them winning more than 5 games the rest of the way, and that includes the tournament.

I guess I have now learned that the player to shoot the FT's had to be a sub from the bench for Jones. So he basically had Carter, KyKy, and Moore to pick from. Adam Baum told me on twitter Steele basically said that JC had been playing more than the other two and thats why he sent him. Makes more sense but still Carter just looked lost. Not sure what Kyky shoots from line and he is a freshman and I get he hadnt played as much. Tough spot there.

That also begs the question though why is Carter playing so much and why is Kyky disappearing on the bench? I get playing Carter a lot when he is playing well. He has had some really good games but last night was a bad one. Sit him down.

Yes ! It starts Saturday !
After adjusting for home court (which Sagarin says is worth 3 points), we improved by 14 points from 2 weeks ago. So, we got that going for us...which is nice.
Wait until we see Marq in the BE tourney, we'll kick the crap out of them at this pace.

It's the same love affair he's had with Q. It's the same love affair he has with Naji.

"My guys"

We're just not good. Play the young guys more.

Carter played 27 min and Kyky played 20, so it's not like Kyky didn't get any playing time. Kyky can and probably will be really good, but he is a freshman that lost a lot of time at the beginning of the year so he is lacking on defense and conditioning that I think limits his playing time.

At this point, does his defense deficiencies matter that much? He also played 10 minutes less than he sat. It was a 50 minute game.

You have to give your best scorers more opportunity than that. Our lack of offense and execution was drastically apparent in crunch time.

I'm excited about Tandy, but how much is he really giving us right now when he's in the game? Outside of the Georgetown game, he hasn't been particularly good. And he made some big mistakes on offense last night when we had a chance to pull away.

The last 15 minutes of the game neither moore or kyky saw the floor. That's inexcusable. For one, moore is our best defender, two, kyky is our best shooter. Instead, steele goes with carter who gives them absolutely nothing. Again, what does he do well? And instead of the four out one in that was working so well in the first half, we go to a stupid big lineup the last five minutes of regulation that clogs the lane and leave it to guys like q (he had a great game) and naji to go one on one and have horrible bb iq. It's absolutely terrible coaching.

It is a coachs job to put players in the best situations to perform at their best and Steele absolutely failed in the last 15 minutes of the game..it was pathetic.

I’m with this. I think it’s just easy ammo to pick on Steele. I think Tandy will be a really good player and has had his moments, but he isn’t exactly playing well enough that Steele can’t keep him off the floor. He has the worst o-rating on the team (non Dontarious James division). Not to mention he had a horrendously stupid turnover on one of the 2-3 possessions X bungled when they really had a chance to put the game away. He also was doing a terrible job in the system defensively, as flagged multiple times by Nick Bahe (who is a pretty good color guy, feel bad he gets paired with Thom though).

I also think it's safe to say Freemantle is currently our best shooter. Not Tandy.

If you listen to the last remark Steele said (Starting at the 10:40 mark) of his press conference prior to the Marquette game you’d think X had 3 losses and Travis believed his team was practically a lock for the NCAA tournament.

We seem to have a situation here where both the coaches and the players honestly believe they are one of the best BE teams and legit Final 4 contenders just because just say they are.

It is an entitled mindset many have today: these veterans believe they were part of a team that was special, so therefor they too must be special enough that wins will just be handed to them instead of them actually having to earn wins by playing a little harder and smarter every day.

Again what does carter do to get time on the floor? Moore or tandy should have been in the game the last five minutes to spread the floor and at least open some lanes. Carter isnt some dynamo on defense either, and he cant shoot and is one of the worst rebounding big men I have ever seen. He must have some great compromising photos of Steele to be getting such play time.

I don't disagree Carter should play less, but we're talking about minute allocation among options 6-7-8. Moore has been just as bad (if not worse) for large stretches of the season as well. KyKy is playing a lot too.

But I'm talking specifically about the last five minutes of regulation and overtime for that matter. I mean seriously what the hell was Steele thinking? Let's go big so the lane is clogged as hell when naji, q, paul are trying to get in the lane and ice the game. Even the analyst said in the game how having tandy and moore spread the floor. Steele just doesnt have a clue right now and it's extremely disconcerting. I was a big fan of the hire at the time and have been extremely patient with his blunders over and over for the last year and a half but last night sent me over the edge.

I get Kyky has definciencies and makes some errors but to me it honestly seems like he gets punished for them more than others because he is a freshman or something. There are games Carter should play a lot when he is playing well. Last night was not one of them. He was abysmal. He had zero confidence in anything he did. 0-4 from the FT line, passed up open threes, rushed missed point blank shot with 14 secs left. He was not doing anything with confidence.

I mean at this point play Kyky and let him work through mistakes and rough games. We are almost to the point in the season where we have to consider next year as well. I get players and coaches dont think that way but anything KyKy learns this year, one in which we arent dancing, will only help for next season.

I definitely see where you're coming from, but I'm going to be honest, I just don't see this as some grave offense. It's lose lose. With this roster, it's just as likely KyKy throws the ball out of bounds twice and Moore bricks a few 3's and we're on here saying why the hell wasn't Travis playing a bigger lineup so we could try to pound Marquette on the glass (especially once they went really small without Bailey).

Also, dude, I enjoy our back and forth and appreciate your viewpoint, but you have been over the edge prior to last night haha.

Tandy needs to play because he is going to be starting next year. Need to get him used to BE starting guards, not the pine because he isn't ever going to see it beyond this year.

The year is a wash at this point. Let the freshmen ride it out and learn from their mistakes.

KyKy and Free shouldn't come out unless they are in foul trouble for the rest of the season.

one irony is that if Markus Howard was not injured Kobe McEwan would have ended the game with 2 points and Anim would not have pressed us into the 2 or 3 live ball turnovers that turned the game around. Of course the foul shooting was the BIG problem and I can't believe Carter missed 4(and I am a fan of harried white players) but that is what you can do regardless..if his first dunk went in(instead of Jase Johnson foul) we would not be having this discussion
