If you were the coach, who would you go with and why? Here's mine:

1- scruggs
2- tandy
3- naji
4- Freemantle
5- Jones

Rest of Rotation:

Q
Moore
Carter
James

This would allow two of the best shooters on the floor at the same time and set the tone from the start of the game. Jones in the past has played better when he has a banger next to him, and carter is not that kind of player.

I'd add Q and subtract Freemantle. Go small and keep our best distributor and best shooter on the floor together. Tell Q that if he takes a shot from more than 2 feet away that he's going to be on the bench at the next stoppage.

When Jones and/or Freemantle get into foul trouble what do you do then?

Bring Miles out of the locker room Walt Frazier style?

Worry about that if or when you get to that point. Go small with 4 in one out or carter.

The same thought was there when hankins and jones played together. That construction worked last year.

That works in certain places depending on matchups. With the way most of the rosters are in the Big East this year, having Freemantle and Jones on the court at the same time would result in us getting torched defensively. That would only work if we played some zone. We also could have foul trouble issues as well, although Steele said that Ramsey would be ready to play this week and he was not considering red-shirting him.

Why would it result in us getting torched defensively? Because carter and q are such great defenders? I dont see the correlation. Free and tandy cant do any worse than those two in my opinion.

You mean Willis Reed? Not that it matters, the reference is probably lost on most posters here.

I think this is my favorite lineup and probably the best. I just like having a guy that can score a little come off the bench...but with the team looking for a spark or needing a change, I would be good with this tonight.

Dammit, I'm old enough to know about it, but not old enough to get it right! :)

Recognize Q has made some visibly boneheaded and inexcusable defensive plays the last few weeks, but yes, Carter and Q are definitely much better system defenders than KyKy and Freemantle, though Freemantle's underrated rim protection is definitely intriguing.

I'm betting Steele sticks with the same starting group, which should mean the game thread will be great even before tip.

I think it was more an issue with having two bigs playing against a team with one, so one of our bigs is probably mismatched on a perimeter player. I think there's some validity to that, but I also get annoyed when people say we have to change what we do to adjust to the Big East "style". Sometimes it's better to make them adjust to us and figure out how they're going to cover two big guys (or rebound against two bigs).

Yeah I'm assuming Steele isnt going to change a damn thing so this thread I created is purely hypothetical.

I also think the efficiency difference between Hankins and Jones isn't getting enough play. Hankins was "can't keep this guy off the floor" good. I'm not sure X's two bigs this season can make the same case.

Should we have redshirted Hankins last year?

I'd go with same starting 5 but add more minutes for Tandy and Freemantle. I'd also make it clear to Q, Naji & Carter that their volume of 3pt attempts needs to be much, much less (Q to 0). I'd also make it clear to Q and Carter that a shot from anywhere from Scruggs is better than any shot they may take from anywhere outside of a layup or dunk.

I don't give a shit who plays. I want to see a team that is motivated and together. I want to see smart basketball and effort all over the floor. It all starts there. For me, I don't care if we lose by 20. The culture has to be there for any real change to happen

We are undefeated when Schrand starts. I say go with what works
