Since there has been some good discussions on conference play and expectations, think it’s time to start a thread.

I can see X going anywhere from 12-6 to 7-11 this year. Can’t remember going into conference play with such uncertainty. Really looking forward to see how it plays out.

10-8
Win 2 games in BE tourney

Get a 7-9 seed.

Right now X’s best win is Missouri then UConn then UC.

Hope X loses less than 2 home conference games. It will be brutal for every team

I agree two home losses has to be the max. Obviously would prefer they run the table at home, at least. But, as mentioned, this is going to be a crapshoot of a season. Let's shoot for it all!

12 - 6

Big East Finals

See what happens.

9-9 gets the team safely in the tournament so that's what I'm going to go with. There isnt an elite team in the big east this year but the league is extremely deep with very good teams. I wouldn't be shocked to see x finish 1st or 9th.

Yeah the Big East is pretty open this year, and the team hasn't been really wowing any of us, I definitely think there's a broad range that we can end up in, I see us dropping some games where we think "wtf is going on," but then will pull out some impressive wins too. This should be a tourney team, and I'd like to see 12-6, but I'm not 100% convinced yet we are there.

17-1 is losers, manning up would be 18-0!

Hah! I figure they'll be a turnover machine in the first game against Nova...and then run the table :)

Does it? 20-11 with zero Top 50 wins in the Non-Conference gets them "safely" in? I'm not sure.

I think they go 10-8, I could probably create a scenario for something as good as 12-6, but I could also see a few things not improving and them going 7-11.

Yes it does IMHO. Big East should at worst be the 3rd best conference this year. With 20 wins this gets you in. Its a soft year for sure........

It is a soft year at the top, no doubt, but it is going to be a crowded year in the middle. I don't happen to buy the "8 teams making the dance from the Big East", I mean I'd love it, but I'll believe it when I see it. 20-11 may very well get us in, I'm just not sure: a) I'd use the term "safely"; b) we are going to like where on the bracket we fall with that record.

Agree with you wholeheartedly that the Big East is likely to wind up as the 3rd best league overall.

I just wish our non-conference schedule had a little more to it to hang on our wall.

I also wish we could make perimeter shots, FT's, and hold onto the basketball a little better.

Oh well...I'll stick with 10-8 in the league and hope for the best!

This is really a tough one from me. As I write this, the Big East is 101-25. Only Providence is under a .667 winning percentage. Before the season began, DePaul and Butler were expected to be bottom dwellers. Combined they are 24-2. Butler is now near the top 10 (being a good shooting a team) and Depaul has beaten some decent opponents. Georgetown has rid itsellf of some misfits and Seton Hall has struggled a bit but I don't know how long that will last. To make a long story shorter, the Big East has performed better than my expectations in non-conference while Xavier has taken care of business albeit in a somewhat lackluster fashion. Certainly 3 point shooting, turnovers and free throws have long been discussed. Although Xavier has struggled somewhat, I want to point out the grit, heart this the team has displayed. X gutted out wins against Missouri State, Missouri, Connecticut, and came back hard against Florida and Wake. Xavier's result in the Big East, as close as the conference is this year, will be determined by this "heart". I really believe 12-6 wins this conference. I think Xavier will be a leat 10-8 and hopefullly more.

As Mike Krzyzewski once said - overcoming adversity is nice, but you don't want to become too intimate with that sonofabitch.

Providence had a 31 point lead on Gtown at the half. Wow. Down to 21 with 12 to play. Didn’t see that disparity coming.

Butler blew a 21-point halftime lead, yet came back in the final minute to get an important win at St. John's last night. It broke a 3-game losing streak for them at Carnesecca Arena.

I am extremely confident that the BE will get at least 7 teams in the torney.

X has to win at least 3-4 Q1 wins. If X goes 7-2 at home, X will get 4 Q1 wins. It is the best league in college basketball this year. Another positive is the $ BE will rake in with wins in the tourney. Helps with recruiting and budgeting.

Gonna be tough getting Q1 wins at home given that the opponent has to be Top 30 in the NET. Winning just about any road game in the conference is an almost automatic Q1 win since the bar becomes a Top 70 win.

The was a fun second half to watch. Thought St John’s was going to pull it out. Impressive since Heron was out and Figueroa was on the bench with his 4th at the 16 minute mark of the second. Kudos to Anderson for keeping him on the bench until the final minutes and stuck with the hot hand.

Georgetown has now been blown out twice. Lose at home to St. John's in their next game, and it's probably curtains on their season.

Marquette is a two point favorite over Villanova tomorrow. That line just screams for a bet on Marquette.

the Big East has always had great teams without great "metrics" players or one and does who impress the NBA scouts. Our "core 4", Diallo, Powell, Howard, Baldwin really everyone except maybe Paul Reed is not really a guaranteed NBA player. Still has been a great league for the real fans and I treat the Big East almost like the 10 team NBA I grew up with in early 70s..follow all the recruits, grad transfer etc. Lets hope for a tourney invite this year and that the veteran players can get us over the finish line. In fact damn Villanova with Hart, Archidiacamo, Pascal, Spellman, Divencenzo, Bridges, Brunson (maybe Booth) have more NBA players than any college team I can recall back to UCLA which shows they had the "metrics" and the skill/teamwork to vex us and the rest of the Big East.

for sure I still don't know how they are doing it

I watch and just don't see a ton of talent........but, what do I know......

I sure hope our players are watching what Butler and Dayton are doing right now.......

What VD is doing right now is illegal. They will be on probation as soon as the people in charge figure it out. The balls are deflated or they are using some extra pine tar. The good news is they are still VD and when they fall this year and they will because remember they are VD, it will be that much more enjoyable.

46% shooting, team basketball constantly in motion.
Multiple screens, pick/rolls, drives-draw defenders in paint-dish for easy layups.

Fair enough. To be honest, I don't think anyone in the Big East looks likely to be playing in the Sweet 16, but if someone proves me wrong, Butler is my last preference (maybe Creighton is below them because it's hilarious they've never made the Sweet 16).

So really we pretty much want all Big East home teams to win their games when it doesnt involve XU. Road wins will be tough to come by and teams who get them will have a leg up.

Yea losing its first two at home is not the best way to start conference play. Will say today’s game against Providence was a fun game to watch which was better than Nova/Marquette.

very very deep...Reeves Duke big guards who hit 3s, Diallo like Naj and he and Watson killed us 2 years ago, Malik White leading scorer, Pipkins..even guys like Nichols and the big backup center are good. Cooley can make them play very hard and depth makes foul trouble moot. They may actually be best team in BE and I was shocked at some of their losses. This league is brutal and with Villanova down everyone feels they can win it. They ae perfect for the flex office as good interior passers

watching all these games, even the "losers" like St Johns, Georgetown, Providence looked damn good not to mention Depaul, Creighton, Marquette, Villanova. We have got to improve and I hope that everybody can step it up. Wednesday will be big as Pinkett, Moseley and Blair are all still there and it seems like have been there forever.
