So I have been in debates with my buds about why I like the NET. They think it’s stupid the way a home game is only worth .6 and that Margin Of Victory is a factor. No system is perfect but I think the NET is the best we have at this moment. What say you?

None of the above. Sagarin.

Any rating system that still lists us as Xavier (OH) doesn't deserve a mention (even though I also like their analytics).

That's one of my favorite things about it, honestly. Old school!

It depends on what you’re trying to measure.

The one that has Xavier rated highest is ALWAYS the best.
Unless you are conflating best w/ accurate...then...whatever.

What’s the most realistic. I mean Xavier at 50+ is actually pretty realistic to me. But SDSU and BUTT top 5 not realistic. Kenpom and NET usually are identical at the end of the year. What does the NET Do that LENPOK
doesn’t

Lenpok is a new metric I’m working on. It only measures the failures of all things Dayton and UC. Right now they are both tied for top spot.

Kenpom measures win probability. It's a predictive metric and not a merit based metric. It really doesn't even factor in wins and losses. At least not that heavily.
The NET is sort of a hybrid between a merit based ranking and a predictive ranking.
The AP and coaches polls are always going to end up being about the same. They are polls where the voters don't really watch all of the games. The coaches poll consist of coaches that know their own team and their opponents, but don't really know anyone else. The AP poll consists of writers that know the teams they cover and the games they cover, but really nothing else.
I don't really know anything about CBS's poll, and the RPI is basically just a general rating rather than a power ranking.

KenPom starts the season ranking teams so it has a bias. NET (don't know the entire formula) uses metrics and strength of schedule. Andy Katz likes teh NET system. I go back and forth between kenpom and NET.

I’ve always said Kyle Cox is one of the brightest out there. However, just remind me who he is again.

Do you mean Kyle Cox who coached Bluiett to a state championship at Park Tudor?
Also, same coach who had a Snapchat handle “bigsilkysmooth” and got 14 years for soliciting a minor.
That Kyle Cox?

No ... following the Massey Composite Basketball Rankings (https://www.masseyratings.com/cb/compare.htm) to the Kyle Cox ranking system (http://kyle-cox.com/most-recent-ratings/):
"Hey! I’m Kyle Cox, a 19-year-old math student at the University of Texas from Austin, Texas."
Also, back to the topic, be careful in distinguishing rankings or systems that predict one team's chances of winning over another versus the "rankings" that are used to help place and seed teams in the bracket.

Yes I know...think Go and I were just trying to have a little fun. Hopefully someone caught the irony and/or sarcasm.
Like you said, carry on.

Kenpom does a pretty good job, along with Sagrin. The RPI is fine as a general metric, Top25 wins, Top100 wins, etc, but is not great for specific team rankings. I think the NET does a better job than the RPI on that. The CBS 25 & 1 is just Parrish and he uses KenPom and some good logic at least to make is ranking. But that as well as the AP and Coaches polls will never be the best because they don't necessarily take all of the relevant info into account.
It also somewhat matters what you mean by accurate. Some are better at picking who is the better team, some are better at picking who has the better resume.

The AP poll is basically a monitor of "When did you last lose?"

Too bad they don't use RPI. We're up to #13 with our loss last night. Gained 2 spots.
#52 in the NET.
