This win is big cause we didn't have a non conference road win. Probably end up being like winning a game at Marquette when it's said and done but it is important to get this win

big win. TCU reverted a little to the norm at the end as they have played some good teams tough. However I notice they beat Clemson who lost at home by 9 today to YALE!!!! I live in Conn and don't sleep on the Ivy League..far better than 10 years ago and have many teams that could make a second week . played a good 36 min today and broke press but start offense 2 second early and get a heave that hits rim not a 24 second violation. KyKy debut and impressive and Fremantle showed a lot in first have. St Johns beat ARIZONA last night..there Weill be no easy games at all and 9-9 will get you to NCAA but lets aim for 11

The kids were already on the plane home with still about 7 minutes to play. Thinking about seeing mom and dad and getting some home cooking probably. But this win makes it a Merry Christmas for all. A good road win over a team that was picked high in their league and was favored to win the game. X really dominated the vast majority of the game and controlled it throughout. They played unselfishly and really guarded well. Best % shooting game of the year too. 11-2 non-conf record, and still only 7 points away from being undefeated. BE will be a meat grinder, but I think X can compete with any of the others if they play to their potential. Go X!

It will all work out as BE has 9/10 teams in top 56. BE is the only power conference with a winning record with Q1 opportunities. By a long way too.
Warrennolan has NET ratings updated as his formula is a guess. Similar to rpi. No team is ranked preseason with any bias.

Anyway, I'm an old school blue collar guy and relatively new to these boards. I'm not an Alumn but had very close ties to the Cinti Gardens. The thing about these boards is the element of face to face smack talk amongst fans is missing. That said, there is a strange dynamic over there (and even here to some extent), the Nova contingent has the obvious catbird seat and their arrogance and condescension goes unchallenged by the other submissive fanbases....including some of our own. Basically only Sco and I are willing to p!ss in their coffee. There IS some kind of fan board etiquette involved but obviously I didn't get the memo.

Here's the thing, only X has anything close to a BE resume to challenge Nova, AND other 8 fanbases RESENT IT, so they post in LOCK STEP with the Nova tools. The main Creighton blowhard is an excellent example...constantly pumping sunshine up their a$$es and they pat him on the head for it. We got a few from here who do the same and are graciously accepted because they know their place.

But really, I've been witness to the entire Staak to Steele ride and true Xavier fans expect champions. That's my attitude and it does tend to be hyperbolic......just consider me a poor man's SNIPE.

I don't think people were questioning his ability. He's obviously talented. However, his abilities as a day one starter were hyped through the roof. Thus far he hasn't met that hype. Not many players would.

There have been similar hype trains in the past for what were at the time our highest rated recruits (Price and Odia if I remember right). I prefer to let the players play and see what happens.

To me, a trash talker who regularly gets his butt kicked, only to return the next time talking louder than before and then gets his butt kicked again and so forth, is a bit of a sad sight. I hope we show next week in Philly and take the game to them. Not, at all, liking Nova, but respecting their program, I'm pretty confident they will show up and play.

That's a program X should emulate.

Besides that, we would have lost the respect of our peers and opponents, and that would have hurt even more. Sportsmanship was something that we were taught and we were expected to show toward others. It’s easier to do behind a message board where your not even a face and are just a made up name, but what’s the point? Let the others talk big if they want. Then just kick their ass on the court, the field, the mat...wherever. Let the scoreboard do your talking, and if you can’t beat them, then just STFU. And when you do beat them, help them up, dust them off, and give them the look that says that it’s going to happen again and again.

I get that and expect you’re a long time loyal X guy like me BUT it sounds like a JP or TU or DFW are not your style “smack” wise. These kids nowadays are inked to the max and starving for their props/attention.

As far as fans go, anything is possible on the passion meter, regardless of internet venue or old style face to face BS in Clifton. I’m not a screaming face painter but many grown adults are, so talking SH!T for your team is, for better or worse, an Official American reality.

I can only assume that you are completely repulsed with the toxic vitriol heaved towards UC/UD by almost everyone here. I don’t get it, but just check out the over the top crap that is spewed.

Does it in some way justify their existence? Does it prove something? There are a lot of things that people do that I don’t understand the motivation for, behavior like you’re describing is just one more thing. My fandom and loyalty to X is deep and true. I don’t feel that because I’m a fan of X that I have to automatically treat others, who are players or fans of other teams, badly or disrespectfully. A little trash talking can be fun, but if you can't back it up, it is pointless. I loved JP! Mostly because it was in fun and he could back it up. It was not vitriolic and mean spirited, although decidedly devious. If he were on the opposing team, would I hate him? Yeah, but more because of how he played against us.

Trash talking just to denigrate doesn't make much sense. It reminds me of my least favorite chant "over-rated"!

True......BUT, some of the best players in the history of the game were NOT legendary trash talkers, too.

I said that I get that it is part of the game today for many players, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it, or that I understand it either.

Guess the difference is that if some of the stuff that passes for “just part of the game” today, was to have happened in days gone by, those players might have woken up in a hospital. We learned at a pretty early age that some things just weren’t going to be accepted...disrespecting an opponent was one of those things. I don’t see where allowing the trash talking, players screaming after dunk, players acting like they just won the Super Bowl after making a defensive stop, improve the game. Players are supposed to make defensive stops, make dunks, hit 3 pointers, block shots, etc. That’s what they are trained to do. It’s why they are playing and not sitting. Why they have to make it about “I” is a mystery to me.

By the way.....calling me names? Child, please.

And I actually enjoyed having kids play in the yard....when I had a yard....on their dirt bikes.
