View Full Version : Ramsey and Tandy Update

Per Shannon Russell
Daniel Ramsey (concussion) has not been cleared to play yet. KyKy Tandy (foot) is still a couple weeks away although he's champing at the bit to play. Steele doesn't want to rush him back at the expense of an injury that's not fully healed.

Any update on these two?they are missing experience and we need Tandy’s shooting. what about Dontarius James? He stayed and he doesn’t get any time?

Looks like Tandy is slated to return after next weeks tourney..........and Ramsey is back to practice. With as well as Fremantle is playing I see no minutes for him this year

I think we are all anxious to see Tandy in particular, but, at the same time, careful about the expectations of a freshman who has not played a minute of D1 basketball, coming off an injury.
Still, it will be nice to get him on the floor, get acclimated and see what he can do.

Tandy is still "a few weeks away". Starting to sound like a redshirt candidate. :(

I'll be surprised if he redshirts. Even a couple weeks means he'll still be ready for conference play and he's expected to have an impact.

I hear you, but it's been "a few weeks" for about a month. If it's REALLY just a few more weeks, not a huge deal. If it's still a few weeks in a few weeks, then we've really got an issue.

Sucks we have to wait so long for the debut of the greatest player in Xavier history. Foot injuries can be weird though and no sense rushing him (Xavier is, believe it or not, 4-0). Maybe back for Green Bay or a few spark plug minutes in the Shootout?
All of us die hard fans lose sight of this every season, but the reality is November/December mean very little in college basketball (when you're in a good league). If he's healthy for the Big East, that's still a huge boost.

Even in a few weeks he should still be able to get a few games to warmup, get back in shape before big east play. That's all I'm hoping for

What's been weird to me is watching Steele continue to offer optimistic timelines when I know they're being told different from the medical staff,
I was told when this first happened he would be out a month at least, but yet for whatever reason coach has has continued to offer up optimistic timelines that don't line up with what is really happening.

If you replace “Tandy” with “Green”, and “Ramsey” with “Glenn”, and it sounds just like the Bungles. Christ that’s scary.

That is Green just being smart, and Cordy...........well, just being Cordy. He was out more often than in with the Bills. Big part of why they shipped him out.

This isn’t pro ball, Travis does not have to disclose the nature of the injury (he’s never disclosed what Kyky is dealing with) nor an actual timeline for his return. He can cloak his injury in secrecy all season and red shirt the kid if he wants to without a public explanation.

Steele wants Kyky to sneak up on people, but he has to get the one foot he jumps off of perfect first.

Exactly. If you want some entertain, take a look at how Archie Miller talks about injuries at IU. It's so good it's almost like he's reading message boards and intentionally trying to rile people up.

Is Ramsay ever going to see the floor his freshman year anyway? I dont mean that to be harsh but he wasnt even in the top 150 recruiting wise and I dont know whose minutes he would take. Maybe I'm wrong though and that's why they felt comfortable redshirting miles?
Tandy I expect 15 minutes or so a game spelling both q and paul and do think he will make an impact. Not saying 10 points a game but I think he could be 6-8 a game and maybe 2or so assists. He really has to learn defense though, he played essentially none in high school. By the end of his career though, I think he is going to be something really special.
I was thinking about this last night, next year this team is probably going to be mainly freshmen and sophomores. Kinda odd.

We should temper our expectations for KyKy with the observations that he is a) a freshman, and b) that he has missed a month at the beginning of the season and that his conditioning, timing, and skills are more than likely rusty at this point. It may take him a month or so to get back to full strength. That’s pretty much just in time for the conference season to start.
Ramsey has been off even longer and has missed considerable practice time. I would be pleasantly surprised if he is able to contribute much of anything until late in the year. But I do think that he will be a factor after the 1st of the year.

Recruiting is way different than 20 or 30 years ago. There’s too much info out there - there are no more rabbits to pull from the hat. Btw, Tu was an original IU recruit - not a surprise.

Heck with that! Let's count on Kentucky Jelly to easily penetrate defenses, shoot spectacularly off the dribble, bring exhilaration to a hardened fanbase, generally lubricate the offense and bring the program to a satisfying climax in the National Championship.

Fine...just don’t bi**h and moan when he makes a turnover or misses a wide open three....:)
Seriously, I HOPE that all you say is true and that it is exactly what happens....I just don’t BELIEVE that is what is going to happen right away. It’s going to take some time for him to get back in playing shape and get his timing back. Fortunately, X shouldn’t really NEED him to be an all-star right away and has pieces already in place that can give him the time he needs.

I'm the eternal optimist, except when my glass is half empty. But then I just drink the half glass of Jameson and fill it halfway again.
Why can't we have a guy that's great right out of the box ? Does it always have to be some other team ? Here's hoping Tandy is en fuego.

Ramsey saw 3 minutes of action in the Lipscomb game on 11/30 post concussion. Is it possible he has another injury? If not, I'm wondering if any discussion has taken place on a red shirt for him. If he doesn't see any PT really soon, wouldn't it be a given to let him develop until next year.
The 8 man rotation we saw yesterday covers all 5 positions adequately for the BE slog with Dahmir #9 when needed and I guess James #10 if extreme foul trouble up front occurs. Barring some catastrophic injury situation or some crazy good skills that are being kept secret, why not save him for the size needs in the years ahead. The 3 incoming are all guards/wings.

Steele stated his knee(s) issue has flared up again. I would assume he could be a candidate for a medical redshirt if it comes to that.

At this point it would take a petition since he did play in a game. I'm pretty sure Travis still has the expectation that Ramsey will be able to help this team down the road. The later it gets into the season the less likely that is to happen. This is particularly true for freshmen bigs. If it doesn't happen pretty soon (next few weeks?) it probably is not going to happen. He doesn't need to decide until after the season so it makes sense for Trav to keep him on ice 'just in case' esp. since Miles has been designated for assignment. Even Miles could still burn his redshirt if absolutely necessary - not going to happen - but could.
