Depaul at Iowa
Iowa is predicted to win by most. The two teams aren't that far apart statistically in many ways. Tighten up the defense and they might have a chance to upset.

I think Depaul has a good shot to upset Iowa. I'd be comfortable picking them. After that it gets dicey. I'll take Creighton against Michigan and Butler over Minnesota. I'll take Nova over OSU, but Holtmann has a good track record against Nova. Wouldn't be surprised by an upset. Providence should slaughter Northwestern. Marquette and Purdue might be the best game. I'm gonna go with Purdue. Penn State and Georgetown should be bad basketball and I'm gonna take Penn State and Michigan State should cruise past Seton Hall without Powell.
5-3 Big East

Oh man, I don't expect us to handle mizzou at all. that's gonna be a very tough game. and you're not counting on georgetown beating a good team, but they barely beat two of the worst teams in D1. Depaul beats Iowa. Shot the long ball really well and out rebounded the Hawkeyes.
11/12/2019____
Creighton loses at Michigan. Jays out rebounded the Wolverines, yet they only have one free throw attempt? What?
New Hampshire loses at SJU Red Storm did not shoot great overall, but rebounding and second chances wins the day.
Minnesota loses at Butler Bulldogs grit out another one, as Baldwin scores 27.
Big East is 22-1. .957 W-L% (1st of 32)

Given that we're 8 days into the season, none of this matters too much at this stage...but according to early returns it's a good thing the Gavitt Games have arrived. Despite the combined 22-1 record of Big East teams, Sagarin rates the Big East as the 5th best conference this year. Why? Here are the current SOS rankings for the 10 Big East teams:
326
319
247 (Xavier)
310
329
272
279
200
335
341
All ten teams currently rank in the top 100 (from Villanova at #9 to St. John's at #94).
How much are last year's ratings still influencing current rankings? Sagarin never says exactly, but despite being 2-0 with a win at Rupp Arena, Evansville is ranked #98 (Kentucky is #3 still), so clearly there is still quite a bit of prior year action in the ratings.

Okay. The big question of debate: Do we examine, Sagarin, RPI, or Kenpom for our analysis of quality wins and SOS? I know the NCAA will release their NET ratings sometime in December. I don't know if any internet geek has a replica of the NET ratings. I do like Kenpom. Lots of numbers and analysis but I think all the sites won't provide realistic data until mid January. Need to account for outliers and SOS.

KenPom and Sagarin are both good sources for that from my perspective. RPI is meaningless IMO.

Was catching the last 10 minutes of the Providence game when I heard a crazy stat: Providence Was 4 for 17.... with their layups. Ouch!
Providence really struggled with their shooting. They didn’t look that good at all. I guess Providence fans would probably say the same about X if they were watching the Missouri game.
Thought Ed Cooley didn’t coach all that well, particularly during the last 7 minutes. His team had multiple stops and chances to cut into the 5 point lead Northwestern had and Cooley just let his players shoot quick, wild 3 after wild 3. Guess we aren’t the only team launching those bad threes.

Two thinks I believe after watching the SH / MSU game:
1. Seton Hall is legit
2. After watching Gill play for Seton Hall today- proving tall skinny bigs can still be very productive (especially with big blocks) in key games, I am hoping Steele is watching this game and rethinking Miles and his redshirt. I can almost guarantee that kid will help this X team in some games.

I caught some of a couple of SLU's games this year and I was surprised how good they looked offensively. They have some good players back form last years tourney team but lost 2 of their best 4 players. They have a freshman PG who is averaging over 8 assists a game though.
