Wow, I caught some of the Villanova/Army game. Wildcats look like they've gotten more athletic.

Another kid named Jones scored 17 and grabbed 11 rebounds too.
Now if his teammates could just drop 16 3s like those Friar boys.

No doubt! I just thought it would be good to have a thread for BE teams who are not Xavier to discuss anything of interest.
Hard to be excited about all these early games unless you are a fan of that team. Still, looks like some good things happening for the conference.

I’m sure it’ll change, but Mt St Mary’s leads Georgetown by 12 at the half.

He pretty much did nothing all summer because of a fractured bone in his foot. He just started practicing a week or two before the exhibition. He's still their best playmaker. He's just out of shape and the offense is moving differently.

Second day of action sees all Big East teams winning their games. The conference is 11-0, but not everything is rainbows and sunshine.
- Butler's McDermott scores 26, 6 rebounds. Their team was already down five men due to illness or injury, when more injuries struck when Karmar Baldwin only plays 5 minutes, left with a rib cage injury, and then Campbell Donovan leaves the game with a knee injury. They are gonna have an interesting non-con.
- Saint John's shows their offense is working with 109 points, but is their defense? Mercer scores 79 on them. Red Storm had 31 FT attempts, which shows they are focusing on inside play. Their starters are fairly young.
- DePaul's Charlie Moore takes charge leading all scorers with 17 pt, 6 asts. and 7-7 FT. No U of Chicago Maroon scores in double figures! (Surprised this studious school is even D1.) Freshman Romeo Weems started for DePaul and finishes with 11 pts, 5 reb. Freshman Markese Jacobs comes off the bench for 26 minutes and finishes with 16 pts. Could be a new wave in Chi Town.
- Georgetown comes back from being down 19 pts to beat Mount St Mary's, who seemed to find the basket fairly easily in the first half. The big guy Yurtseven is going to be load to handle. 20 pts. 12 rebounds, 7-7 FT. Hoya's made their FT, 17-21.

The DePaul Blue Demons beat Fairleigh Dickinson in the third day of action. The conference is now 13-0.
Charlie Moore went off for 27 points and 4 assists.

U Chicago is a D-III school and so DePaul's win may or may not count on various official standings. The mighty Maroons did have national championship teams in the 1900's and a Big 10 (then Western Conference) championship as late as 1924. On a couple of those early championship teams was Edwin Hubble (as in the Universe is expanding Edwin Hubble).

The most impressive thing so far is the 31 assists on 39 made baskets by PC. Talk about unselfish, geez. That's got to be close to a All time record AND Big Nate did not play!!
I think the Friars have the deepest roster of quality depth in conference....10 legit high D1 guys if their frosh Gantt pans out.

I used to date a u of Chicago grad and she always talked about how no one there cared about sports, including the football team. :) She said they were competitive with school work.

They also hit 47% from 3 (16-34) Holy crap Batman, that’s impressive.

And our beloved Muskies look nothing like a Top 20 team either. However, after Paul, KyKy, and Daniel Ramsey return, I believe things will change for the better!

In the fourth day of action, the Big East continues it's undefeated run. Their record is now 18-0.
Wrapping up week one is something I notice from off the court: low attendance at many of these games, even for the teams with high national rankings. Only Marquette and Creighton got crowds larger than Xavier. I am wondering how you recruit better players to your school if they are comparing the atmosphere and thrill of playing in front of a big crowd to a room that's not drawing 2,000 when you're ranked #12 in the country.
- Georgetown does seem to be deeper across the bench, but the team is still a work in progress and is struggling to completely shut teams down. The good news was they scored a healthy 52 points in the first half. The bad news was Central Arkansas scored 42. Yurtseven continues to look like a badass with 17 pts, 15 reb, and 3 blocks. But the Bears did make a game of it.
- SJU blows out their opponent by 30, which is how much Mustapha Heron scored.
- Butler takes care of business early in strong fashion against a weaker team. Still dealing with a lot of nagging injuries there.
- Five minutes in, Seton Hall's Myles Powell has what they are calling a "serious' ankle sprain, and their team loses the half by a bucket. The second half was much different story. But I could see SHU's fortunes fading if Powell is out a long time.
- Providence dominates their game with big time defense and rebounding.

If it makes you feel any better, Maryland is playing Rhode Island right now at home and their building is not exactly full.

Is this a comment on anyone besides seton hall? depaul's attendance has been bad but that's always been the case. everyone else i've seen has been packed. nova, butler, and st. john's all have smaller arenas than us.

Seton Hall had 2,000 fans because they were playing their buy games in their on-campus bandbox instead of the Prudential Center.

One can write about the early X games as sell outs but it is paid attendance. Several thousand stay home until UC game or BE schedule sadly.

No, I meant overall. The expense just to put on a game is substantial. Travel cost, lodging, staff, facilities. If they aren't drawing more ticket sales it must be concerning. Not sure what you'd consider acceptable, but I'd want more than what's being listed. But even beyond the overhead, I'd be concerned about how the brand comes off on TV or to watching recruits. If you know sales are low for a game it's easy enough to give out tickets to a charity or school to fill the stands a bit more.

So you're talking about Depaul? lol. Depaul has to be losing money. Maybe the tv deal is enough to cover it

Looks like the tax payers could be losing money as well. My company used part of the McCormick convention center next to Wintrust and rented out arena for an evening function. Talk about a dull area of Chicago.
