What makes this season different, however, are the undercurrents of change rippling across the sport. The possibilities bring with them the fantastical thought that, if things really change and players can make some money, maybe they won't be so dependent on under-the-table payments, and maybe the programs they play for won't have to break so many rules to sign them.

If the NCAA allows players to be paid for use of their images, I think the NCAA will have to put some guidelines in place (such as how much they can be paid). If this happens, some universities and its donors will break those guidelines every chance they get. There won't be an end to under the table payments.

Since the payments will be from a business to a player, and won’t go through the universities, I don’t see any legal way they can limit what those payments would be. Would be no different than telling a biology major on an academic scholarship that they can only make 10.00 an hour working part time at the local pizza joint.
