I have never been to Charleston. I have always wanted to go, and I am excited about seeing the city for the first time.

I need some tips. I don't know where to stay, where to go or what to do. I also need to know the best places to get a decent priced meal, including the best pizza in Charleston.

One of my best friends is a Florida fan. When they announced the field we agreed we had to take this road trip together the week before Thanksgiving. I will be traveling with the enemy. Florida looks to have a tough team. We are both hoping we can meet in the Final.

Any tips for places to stay on the way down are welcome too. We will be driving down on the Wednesday before the Thursday games.

I think the key to getting past the wife committee on this one was telling her when they announced the field that I was taking a road trip to watch the Muskies play in November. We already have our tickets. By the time she realizes I am actually going she can't say anything because I will be like, "I told you about last year" or some such thing...

Give me your lists of places to see and things to do, and where I can get so libations and grab a bite to eat.

I can't wait to root on our Muskies.

Been several times and is a fantastic city to visit. The parallel streets of King and Meeting the ones with all of the restaurants and places to go. Along with Market and Broad, which go East-West. The Charleston Crab House has fantastic seafood. Right around the corner from that is Tommy Cordon’s Irish Pub. Great place to drink and good food. Top notch music too. Hymans Seafood, on Meeting St., is a very famous place with great food, but can be hard to get into. Can’t help you with Pizza there, sorry. There are literally hundreds of restaurants and bars all around historic section and I don’t think I’ve ever had a terrible meal at any place I’ve ever tried.

I used to go there monthly for work and I love the city. I’m afraid it’s been too long for me to give specific recommendations. You probably can’t go wrong in the historic district as far as food and drinks. I will say that the horse and buggy rides may look hokie, but it’s actually a nice way to see the city and you’ll learn a lot along the way.

Vacationed at Wild Dunes once with family. Great place to stay. Great city. Best food I had (didn’t eat out a ton) was 82 Queen.

I’ll mention that to my wife. She travels a LOT these days. She’s on the west coast this week, but flies back arriving at 5:43am Friday only to fly out to Charleston at 1:00pm for a sorority girl’s weekend planned long ago. She comes back Sunday, only to turn around and leave for NYC Monday morning. The upside? I get to sleep without the CPAP a lot! I may wake the neighbors with my snoring, but I DON’T CARE!

My wife and I were married in Charleston and Have been there many many times. 82 Queen is my favorite. Try the shrimp and crawfish jambalaya. Poogans is also good as is Low Country Bistro. Hanks is well known and generally good but very pricy. There are many great places to eat there. It is a great city with a lot of history.

Not looking for anything pricey, and I am not a seafood guy. Lets just stick with the best bars that I should have a cocktail at.

I would be up for a Horse and Buggy normally, but I am on a road trip with a buddy, and not sure that would be the right vibe. We are coming for sports, booze and grub. I love old buildings a lot, and on the Saturday off I plan to see the most historic parts, so you can tell me what buildings I should not miss.

You don't want much do you? Sounds like you actually want a concierge or a travel agent to set you up on your trip....am I right?

I think you have to pay people to do that for you Snipe! Want it for free? Try google, yelp, or a combination of both.

Always looking for a handout....

You don’t have to call it a “date” if you don’t want, and we won’t ask if you are holding hands under your quilt.

You’re in the right place if you like old buildings! It’s a very cool place. My wife is actually flying in there this weekend heading to one of the barrier islands for a girl’s weekend. I’m jealous!

Sniper,
Try to stay at the Courtyard on Calhoun, about a block from the arena, and only a few blocks walk to the center of activity on King/Meeting streets.
There is a 5 Guys on King about 2 blocks away.
Or stay closer in town at the Days Inn on Meeting. Can still walk to the arena. Those are lower price options.
Or...go upscale the Charleston place.

You understand that Charleston is a seafood town??? But, they have a (vast) number of great places to eat. Steaks, etc.
I would second the vote for Tommy Condon's for a good Irish bar. And the town has a lot of craft breweries.
Vendue is great for a roof top bar (one of, if not, the first).
Here are some others. (Note: many are not downtown, but across the bridge in the Mt Pleasant area)

My wife and I went to Charleston for the first time this summer for a friend's wedding. We had a great time. I'm sure there is a way to do it cheap, but we certainly didn't. Not necessarily by design, but it just kind of happened that way. 82 Queen was probably our favorite restaurant that we ate at - fantastic brunch. As far as I can tell, basically all you do in Charleston is eat, drink, shop, repeat.

Tommy Condons was about the only place that I remember going that I might call cheap. If you are looking for a fairly no-frills pub to grab a drink it is definitely worth checking out (at least as far as I remember).

I think I will his Vendue and one other on that list. It said that Vendue has a killer happy hour.

I need to know more about happy hours in Charleston. That is where I will be drinking before the game. Give me a good happy hour, and I will give you the United States of America!

Also we might stay at that Days Inn. The hotels downtown are pricey and my buddy wants to stay in a nice place but with a decent rate. I say give me the run down dump if you can give me location.

It seems like if you go to Charleston you have to be in the thick of it, and then stumble home drunk. I don't want to stay miles away and drive in for games, I want to be there.

This is a long tournament. I have to leave on Wednesday and don't get back until Monday because they don't play at all on Saturday and the Championship game is 8:30 on Sunday Night. It is not your easy weekend roadtrip.

It has been a minute Paul, but we need to get together for cocktails.

I just booked my flights this week. For those who are going where are you all staying? My son and I are at the Comfort Inn which is about a mile from TD Arena. It is about $150 per night which includes breakfast and parking.

Staying at the Hyatt Place which is about a 15 minute walk from the arena. Used a family/friends discount a few months back to get it for about $140 a night after fees and taxes. Looks like it's going for about $300 a night now, so I lucked out.

You forgot history! Fabulous place for American history. Highly recommend you take one of the carriage tours. Also many historic houses to tour as well as Ft Sumter, Harbor tours, and the historic Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in dry dock available for self touring. There also several historic plantations in the area for touring.

For any Xavier fans who will be attending the Charleston Classic, a group of Cincinnati Muskies will be pre gaming at The Charleston Beer Works located at 480 King Street prior to Fridays game. We have reserved an outdoor patio weather permitting or an upstairs area if needed. One of the owners is a St X grad and a Muskie fan.
