Doubt it matters. I think there is about a 5% chance these games are even played. It normally would suck to be a Dayton fan, but it would royally suck right now....chance to go to a final four, hell even cut down the nets and tourney probably cancelled. Yikes.

The one thing that pisses me off is VD fans not getting to see their team lose. They weren’t getting out of the first weekend. So now that the dance will be cancelled VD fans will claim they would have won the title. Just like UC fans say they would have won if Kenyon Martin didn’t break his leg. If there is a silver lining it’s that VD best year in decades will be ruined. That makes this all worth it to me. I hate them.

I'm trying to decide upon an appropriate reaction should I ever bump into a UD fan about this.

I imagine the conversation involving a lot of blathering on the part of the UD fan: "We had a 1-Seed and we had Obi and we almost beat Kansas anyway and we were sure to at least make the F4 and then probably win it all!!!!!!!!!!!"

How would you react to that?

I would have to give it some more thought, which I'm not going to do, because I'm wasting enough time typing all this, but I would either smile at him, ask him how he likes his meds, and then walk away, or I would respond as follows:

You have to play the games to win it all. No games were played. No games will be played. You won nothing. The one year - the ONE YEAR - your VD clown show actually puts it all together and the entire smash is taken down from you and tucked away as an asterisk in an historical record. That is wicked. That is brutal. I feel sorry for the players, coaches, good fans, etc. But I'm laughing at people like you. Oh, one other thing: congratulations on keeping that "pre-season champs" mentality alive. People like you are renowned for it.

BTW, one last thing for you to consider: catching lightning in a bottle with Obi will not translate to sustained success. Dayton cannot recruit at the highest level because of its conference affiliation. Well, and because it's Dayton. You will continue to have to get lucky in recruiting. And you will never be able to recruit at Xavier's level. You couldn't do it while we were in the A10 together and you certainly will not do it from here, now that X is in the Big East. And you have no margin for error when it comes to making it into the NCAAT moving forward as a result of playing in the A10. Imagine that. Damn the timing of it all.

Well said my friend!! Yeah just smile and pat them on the shoulder. Let them know that the Wuhan saved their fan base from more disappointment. They weren’t going to go far. They played literally nobody and the teams they did play that were good they lost to. So use this situation as something you can dream about and tell your grandkids. The truth is you’re still VD, you still suck, your coach seems like a great guy but you were calling for his head last year.(I feel like there is another fan base that’s doing that same thing). The only thing keeping me sane right now is knowing that VD dream season has been shattered. I Freaking love it!!

I totally agree with you. I have been quietly sitting back, waiting for the tournament to start in order to watch them flame out early, I truly believe they were not going to get out of the first weekend. The shock of actually playing a talented, probably bigger-across-the-board team would have proved too much for them, having spent months playing a patsy A10 schedule. Once VD, always VD.

Whatever. I'm certainly comfortable with how Xavier's program is positioned for the future, notwithstanding the incredible amount of in-game heartburn experienced this year.

We keep saying that we are going to be young and that's true. But here is a "what-if" for everyone: we have a lot of young talent coming in to go along with Freemantle and KyKy and I truly expect Dieonte Miles (I believe he is going to be a pleasant surprise). Combine them with the 2020 studs, assume Jason Carter puffs up his confidence and hence his contributions, let Paul Scruggs come back healthy and MOTIVATED, and grab an impact player out of the portal. Nova weaved in impact freshmen. Maybe a slightly higher level (Moore is incredible) but we can't be that far off.

Goodin's headcase issues are gone. Though a net positive contribution, assuming the stories about Naji not getting along with Steele are true, it may sound nuts but Naji's departure becomes a net positive as well. The only way it works with Naji staying is with Travis making it clear who is boss and Naji going along with that. He's probably gone, so it won't matter anyway.

This coming season is going to be very interesting. But aren't they all.

p.s. VD is going to have to sit there and "take it" as they witness UCONN's entry into the Big East.

My butcher is a rabid VD fan, and we trash talk every time I stop at his shop. I was there yesterday, and told him how sorry I was that the season ended this way. He seemed pretty down, so I reminded him of what a fabulous season they has and that they should remember that ride. I did all this in spite of the fact that I dislike most VD fans intensely, as my many posts on this subject will attest. But all I could think about yesterday was how I would feel if I were in his shoes, and it just seemed like the right thing to do to commiserate.

This sucks..even if xavier may not have made it, not having it at all is freaking terrible. No sports for at least a month is depressing.

I record all X games and delete them shortly after they lose, occasionally a couple days later if I want to review the tape in a loss. I keep them forever if they win, so I know all the games I have on my DVR are wins. I watched the Seton Hall road game this morning. Watching the first Providence game now and found the nova game from 2/25/16 I am watching tonight. Not sure what to do when I finish all of them.

I saw where CBS is reporting the committee is considering releasing the Bracket. Evidently it was not finalized when they disbanded, but it would not be too difficult to finish it remotely. Not sure how I feel, as an X fan. If it's never released, we can always say "Who knows?" On the other hand if we're in, it would be like Damn, OK. How do others feel ?

Personally, I am very glad VD is in the rearview mirror. I would not be thinking about them now if it were not for this remarkable recent chain of events.

It simply is a fact that the rivalry between the 2 schools became too toxic. I don’t know how that happened, but it happened. Visiting UDPRIDE when we were in the A10 together was something that you did at your own risk. That site elevated delusion to an art form.

At any rate, as some of you have noted, if you showed up at a bar without any school gear on and ran into some of those guys you probably would have an enjoyable time of it.

When it is all said and done, it is just a damn shame that such a severe outcome had to be the solution

Yeah they are still delusional. They really thought they were going to compete for a NC. Xavier had a better chance of winning the NC then them and Xavier wasn’t good. God love them though. They are a cute little bunch.

I have a long-time friend who teaches at VD that claimed some simulated tournaments were run and showed VD winning the whole thing, including three one-point games along the way - including against Duke.

I use Monte Carlo simulations in my business. You can run them right in Xcell in a short period of time. It can perform 10,000 simulations. I am guessing in that many simulations U Dump would have won a few times. So what? Garbage in, garbage out.
