UConn is coming home.
On Wednesday, the UConn Board of Trustees voted unanimously to accept an offer from the Big East Conference to join the league in all sports offered. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday in New York City where the school and the conference will make their reunification complete.

Looking forward to it!
And wondering after the press conference, which bar are the women’s basketball coaches going to for group therapy.

Yeah, can't say the women's coaches are too thrilled, pretty cool to think about Geno walking around Cintas though, would have loved Calhoun too, excited for this, I think it's a good move, and strengthens the conference. A whole helluva lot better than adding some crap team like Dayton.

Welcome. Should be exciting. I hope we can keep the scheduling concept of home and away.

Really? BE women's coaches should be thrilled. Come to Xavier and play against the best twice a year? Should result in better recruits......

Does UConn have to go through the RCIA process first? Do they need a sponsor?

Val did a great job again. 3.5 m entrance fee and 30 m exit fee for 1st 6 yrs. Awesome. If UConn leaves we get 30 mill and still have the RR. Ha! i'm sure she will be squeezing Fox for more bucks too.

They will have to go through Manressa. I hope they are not as hung over as we were. I have some stories from that time in my life..... they aren’t foggy, however......

I don't know, I think the talent disparity is a big bigger in the women's game, it's tougher for teams to knock out the giants like UCONN, I'm hoping you're right though, would love to see a talent increase due to having the most storied women's program in the country in the Big East, hoping our staff relishes the challenge, but I can tell you I'm not jealous of having to game plan against them at all haha.

Supposedly they will expand the league games from 18 to 20 and retain the round robin format.

I actually think it benefitted both parties really well, this still gives UCONN the ability to try to get a P5 invite to keep football around in the mid 2020's, though their fans think that's about a 25% chance, but it doesn't completely close the door on it. The Big East conference profile improves with a program that's historically been very good. Hurley in my opinion is the right man for the job, UCONN will probably have less travel due to the concentration of Big East teams in the North East, and The Big East will most likely own MSG for years to come for the conference tournament, and probably get a better TV deal now. Wonder how the assholes in Bristol feel about this...
ESPN will continue to act like the Big East is the MAC.

Ah yes... Manressa... good times indeed!

It looks like they're still negotiating the exact date of departure with the American; they haven't explicitly stated that 2020-21 will be the first year of competition for UConn in the Big East. Officially, they would need 27 months notice to leave the conference, but it's not going to do anyone any good for them to be a lame duck for 2 seasons.

Xavier will be in the same conference as UConn - 4 times National Champ in the last 20 years UConn - that is just amazing! Just a few years ago we played St Bonnie, Duquense, LaSalle and Fordham every year. It seems almost impossible!

Yeah when I was a kid the big game we focused on was playing Evansville. Talk about making the most of your opportunities to ascend.

Not to be that guy, but that's a edited video of a reaction in England to a WC goal lmfao just in case anybody didn't know, but regardless, UCONN fans are very excited.

They have to pay more money if they leave sooner than 27 months. I could see the AAC wanting to collect.
BTW, our mutual UConn friend tells me they've had over 2000 new season ticket requests in the last four days. That's after they had a huge drop off when they instituted seat licensing. So...I think that would cover the extra money for leaving early.

A nice dark beer that Geno's drinking in that picture, that's the face of happiness right there. Awesome article, really shows how excited UCONN is about getting back into the Big East. I'm obviously through the roof happy X is in the new Big East, but the old Big East as a basketball conference was really fun to watch, I'm sure they feel a lot more at home, really is a bit of a honeymoon period up there in Storrs.

UConn football needs to hurry up and find teams to play if they are not in any conference.
This is a good and messy scheduling issue:

UConn getting a slap on the wrist for violations when former head coach Kevin Ollie was at the helm. Loses a scholarship for next season and some recruiting restrictions... which don't appear to be hurting them. Those were largely already self imposed anyway. I guess Ollie has to be out of the limelight for the next 2 seasons too. Still waiting on the death penalty for looserville though.

Wait, is adding Connecticut going to raise taxes on the rest of us?

Kevin Ollie sued UConn for $10 million that he claimed he was owed because of his contract. UConn, of course, claimed that he was fired for cause and that they don't owe him anything.
UConn is now on probation. Ironically, this kind of supports their claim that Ollie was fired for cause, which could end up saving them ten million bucks.

This is a wonderful moment from the Kevin Ollie era at UConn! Whenever I feel bad about how one of my favorite teams is playing, I can always come back to this missed freethrow...

True, except I recall that OSU went on probation under Jim O'Brien. He sued OSU for wrongful termination and won. Court found that he didn't do anything wrong and that the NCAA was essentially wrong in their findings.

One of the funniest tweets I saw was "We paid enough penalty having to be in the AAC for 8 years, that's why the NCAA went light on us."
