Tomorrow night is the In Ky All Star game. If you live in Indiana, it will be on a local channel in most towns. Channel 23 in Indy. If not, I think it is available on line, but you'll have to look for it. Ky considers this their strongest team in years. Can't wait to see Tandy and Miles in action.

Kentucky absolutely got skunked by Indiana in the first game last evening. Not one Kentucky player scored in double figures. No mention in either the Indy Star or Louisville Courier about Ky Ky or Miles.

Here is the article from the Courier Journal

I saw some of the game last night, did not see much of Miles and KyKy. I saw Miles take a pass and smoothly move through the lane to dunk. I think he runs the floor well. I was surprised to have the impression that KyKy looked uncertain and a bit overwhelmed.
The Indiana team was polished and shot great.

The announcers during the 2nd half mentioned that Tandy had no trouble creating his own shot, they just weren't falling. Miles is going to need extensive time eating and putting on muscle. Indiana's bigs were much more muscular.

Nice incite.

After reading the Star, sounds like Indiana was playing a competitive game and Kentucky an All-Star. Not to sound like an excuse, but Indiana team played full court pressure and didn’t allow Kentucky to get into their offense. Nice, a team had two practices and are expected to run their offense through press defense. Of course, didn’t help Kentucky shot 4-26 behind the arc. Should be interesting how they respond with next game.

I’ve been saying for a while that while I have great hopes for kyky I don’t think he’s going to come in and light the world on fire as a freshman. Watch most of his highlights... he went up against little to no competition. Most all the highlights I saw from high school it’s him carving up small white kids.

No hate intended, again I’m excited about him and think he’s a ball of talent. But I believe he will need time to catch up to big east speed. Dhamir bishop I think will be much more prepared.

This is a good point i think. i never expected the world from kyky as a freshman. I think anything more than 6 points a game would be an incredible season and i'd be pretty pleased with anything from 3-5 points a game. He also doesn't have the size and length of some of our recent guards. Still, this indiana lineup was no joke. 5 star center surrounded by 3 other 4 stars and a 3 star all headed to D1 colleges. Kentucky had 2 4 stars and a few 3 stars.

There is a thing called AAU where he played against the best of the best and did well. Also tore up team Ohio. Kyky can play. He is a freak athlete.

The 5 frosh have a big learning curve. As great as past frosh were, it will take most of the season for the frosh to get comfortable. KyKy getting all the publicity but Bishop and Freemantle played against tougher competition. We shall see as they are all very green.

When Scruggs and Marshall were incoming frosh, Scruggs got all the hype but Naji ended up playing more and contributing off the bench. They were also higher recruited. No need to panic. Remember they are young an inexperienced. Thank God for transfers!

There has to be some Indiana or Kentucky fan blog who posts a box score to the game. Wish I could have seen some action.

Tandy was roughly 8 for 25. Miles is a project, albeit a very tall one. Butler signee Malloy looks to be talented, not their typical big white stiff. Indiana practiced alot, ran strict offense and defense. Ky coach appeared to just roll out thd ball and say "Have at it fellas". Kyky I hope just had a bad weekend. Miles, like I said, needs lots of time in weight room and at the dinner table.

Here's some stuff I dug up.

2 observations-
-Evidently some Kentucky people were talking smack....."best team in 20 years" "we will sweep"...... With a healthy Dontaie Allen, MAYBE.

-WAY MORE D-1 talent for Indiana, 10 to 5.......7 to 3 advantage with HIGH D-1 guys. 4 B10, 1 ACC, 2 BE vs 2 BE, 1 ACC.

Both the Big East guys for the Indiana squad played really well. Our 2 guys, not so much.

The stats I was able to find for AAU he was averaging 15-4-2. Certainly not bad but was lighting up the world. Again, I’m not saying he can’t play and I’m really excited to see him. But I think people on the boards like this see him putting up 38 and 35 and 36 and stats like that in the Kentucky playoffs and think he’s gonna come in and just steal a starting spot away ( I’ve seen that on here A LOT). And all I’m saying is I think he’ll spend quite a bit of time catching up to the speed and figuring out how to get his shot. It’s not a bad thing or a knock on him it’s just his HS competition sucked.

I don’t expect him to start but think he can play good minutes and give a boost off the bench while spelling Q. Something Xavier didn’t have last year. 40+ vertical, super fast, strong, can shoot and get in be lane. Can be a very good defender as well. Will be a piece to help improve from last year.

No KY player scored in double figures so Tandy made no more than 4 shots according to Indiana newspaper

Yeah...ky probably has 4-5 players go d1 every year, indy I'm guessing is probably around 20 if not more I assume. So, yeah makes sense the results are the way they are...

Also btw Ky had 3-4 players that are d1 that didnt play in the game for one reason or another.

They played 2 games, that was his total for the weekend. I think he scored 9 in each game.

Also dropped 25 including 5 3's on Tennessee State Champs Briarcrest, which is a damn good program. Dekeyvan will be just fine. I am hoping to see a Mac McClung type player when he does see the floor but more athletic. A "gunslinger" of sorts. Reckless abandon + unshakable confidence.

I am from Indy and yes Indiana has absolutely dominated this series in the past 105-20 years. It seems as though Kentucky doesn't really get into it any longer. They used to fill Freedom Hall for the game and now they play in a high school gym I think. Even Indiana drew only about 5,800 fans this year in Indy. It ain't what it used to be.

I read this article last week which says as much:

And compare this article to this article:

It looks like this was a huge game or series at one point.

I hate to hear this about the series. Grew up in Indy and was always talk of the town. Honestly, UK and IU basketball was the driver for most fans. That rivalry at the the time transcended down to HS basketball. Today unfortunately, very few Kentucky HS kids go to UK which probably contributed. Used to be a precursor of things to come.

The problem is the same problem that plagues a lot of high school basketball and college recruiting.....prep "schools" which are really basketball factories and AAU. Those two things have been extremely detrimental to many aspects of the game.

Can it also be that there are better basketball players in Indiana? Looks like Indiana has had better recruits and players over the last couple decades. Indiana is more populated right? Who is the best basketball player not named Unseld to come out of Kentucky? Rex Chapman? Serious question.

Dave Cowens,

There are many others that played D1 basketball at high levels. But you are correct that the population of Indiana is much larger than that of KY and the level of competition within the state is much higher.
