Here's something I had no idea about until today: Chris has a little brother named Matt who was committed to Xavier as part of the class of 2017. He was recruited as an infielder. However, his senior season he blew up on the mound and ended up as a coveted pitching prospect. He was drafted in the 20th round, and the Marlins convinced him to skip college with a decidedly non-20th round signing bonus of $450k. He then proceeded to give up 1 earned run in 21 innings of rookie ball before going under the knife for Tommy John surgery. Certainly would have been nice to have a pitcher like Matt Givin on the staff this year to back up Grammes!

Chris is raking in the lowest of the low minors. He's playing for Arizona League Padres, and through 11 games he's hitting .435 with a HR and 14 RBIs (1.145 OPS). Hopefully he can keep it up and get a bump to a higher level rookie team or a short-season A squad.

Givin's Ft. Wayne Tin Caps are in Dayton playing the Dragons tonight (last of a 3 game set). After a hot start in the lowest levels of the minors (AZL), Chris has struggled a bit in the Midwest League. Small sample, but he's 1 for 15 so far.

Ugh. Chris is hitting .172 with 4 HRs for the high-A Ft. Wayne TinCaps. 130 ABs on the season.
