Talk about a disaster! The program totally collapses in the wake of the Mullin departure.

Its New York.
I mean seriously they have such self inflated importance in just about everything.

They should just offer the job to Rick Pitino and then go take a long, hot shower to try to wash off the sleaze.

Didnt he say he would need an apology from the NY DA or something before he'd accept St. Johns job? LOL.
Although I am pretty convinced he'd take any high major job if offered.

There are no 2019 or 2020 prospects currently committed to St. John's.

FULL BLOWN DUMPSTER FIRE. Can Herron transfer w/o sitting out a year? If not I see him going pro somewhere. How are they going to get anyone of quality to coach this sh!t storm?

Holy wow, that's a tough offseason:
- Head coach resigns (although this probably helps)
- Loyola coach declines offer
- Ponds and Simon declare and have signed agents
- Clark graduates
- Figueroa and Trimble in transfer portal
- No 2019 or 2020 commitments after fallout from Mullin leaving
For lack of a better word, whoa

If they can get a coach in, they have a salvageable roster. Still have Keita, Heron, Roberts, Williams, Earlington, Caraher, Wright, and Steere. That roster isn't great by any means, but it's still a far cry from where Lavin left the roster four years ago.

This has become the biggest story in College basketball as the drama intensifies. Their Athletic Department’s competence has been exposed and are not on the same page as the administration. One billionaire alum shared a lot of the toxic details in a recent interview, lambasting the program from top to bottom. Coaches from UMBC, LOYOLA and IONA all say no thanks. That speaks volumes! They should just promote Mullins young assistant.....all indications are that he was the X and O guy anyway. That seems to be the only way to come out of this with some dignity intact.

They need to take a step back and just wait for this thing to settle down. They need the help of a PR firm NOW........
They are basically screwed for a couple years.............really sad to see the incompetence

Matt Abdelmessih has already signed a deal to coach with Fred Hoiberg at Nebraska. While reported at the time, I don't think those that covered the story made a big enough of a deal about that move. As we've all noticed on this board, he is the guy that has been coaching the team for the past four years. IMO, his leaving was the move that sent the entire house of cards tumbling down.

There is no time. I think they only have 8 guys on scholarship, so they need to grab some transfers ASAP before the decent talent is snapped up. Make the hire, get to work and the story goes away. But yeah, they are royally screwed no matter what.

Rothstein tweeted out that former Georgia Tech & George Mason coach Paul Hewitt is a candidate. St. John’s you have to do better. Roll the dice with an upcoming assistant, but please do better.

Pitino.
Imagine the TV ratings.
Preach forgiveness and weather the initial bad PR.
5 year minimum commitment with a succession plan in place by Yr 3.

Pitino would probably get some decent grad transfers right out of the gate.

Look at Bruce Pearl and Auburn...hiring Pitino would be exactly the type of move the Jonnies should take to be relevant! Otherwise they will drift further into mediocrity.

Yes. Really go on offense and turn this s-show around.

Mark Jackson can't coach. Word is he was just like Mullin when he coached Golden State. Had nothing to say during timeouts. Had no idea how to manage his players.

Yeah, not terrible. He will at least keep the program from going into the complete abyss. Better than Moser in my opinion and some of the other names that were being floated out there once cluess said no.

The more I think about this, the more I think what a good option this turned out for st.johns. He runs a clean program, goes to the tournament on average about every other year, and runs an exciting brand of basketball. He has never really gotten big time recruits, instead getting guys who fit his system so the fact he isn’t an east coast guy, isn’t really a big deal. Other than Hurley, I think this is the best St. John’s could have hoped for at this time in their program.

given the spot they were in they did really well. He produces winning teams. Probably needs a couple seasons to get his recruiting going there.
