She had spent her last 7 seasons as an assistant at Michigan, including associate head coach this year when they went to the 2nd round of the women's NCAA Tournament.
As a player, she was a 2-time MAAC Player of the Year at Siena.

My first impression: seems....unimaginative. But we shall see.

In the grand scheme of things the women's program is not even close to a top 25 program. This is what you get.
Not fair IMHO to be critical.......

I'm not being critical yet. Just my honest reaction. Seems like the kind of hire I could have made, but I would have probably picked a better program than Michigan to make it from. But that doesn't mean she's not actually great. We shall see.
As long as they are not embarrassing who cares ?

As long as they are not embarrassing who cares ?
The players, their families, the coaches, some of the students, and the team's fans?

That's repetitive. After you named the players, the coaches, and their families, you had already named the team's fans.

Not quite. There are several posters on here who travel to the Women’s Games and they are not members of a player’ family.

I'm also a fan. A total fairweather fan for sure, but if they're good I'll definitely pay attention. Thus, I can't name a single player for close to a decade.

i can name pretty much every player from the 2000 elite eight team, and most from that era, and a few from kevin mcguff, but that's it

Just a bit looking into our coaches background, social media (i.e. response from her players and other colleagues), it looks like we found a great fit. I'm excited for the future. As a real fan, a total real fan, I guess I just trust our AD that he's actually done is job and made the right decision.

Now that we have a REAL coach.. it’s time to trash Neal’s non-conference High School schedule and compete against a real D1 schedule.
Let’s GO X!!

Coach Moore hit the ground running. She seems to have put together an excellent supporting staff of three fine Assistant Coaches. I'll be anxious to see how this works out over the next 3-4 seasons!

How could a player miss not one, but TWO wide ass open layups standing under the basket to cinch a game that would have sent your team to the Final Four?
I stopped paying attention pretty much after that.

Hardworking is a common theme among all the staff hires. Marquette had a coaching change just a few years ago and rose right up to compete with DePaul. What I don't get is why isn't a Big East the conference of choice for talented women basketball players. The WBB group has a few "blue bloods," but beyond that, the Big East schools offer so much more than a run-of-your-mill football conference school. It will be interesting to see if Val Ackerman (who has WBB background) can balance MBB vs other sports including WBB, but gradually get WBB in the Big East among the best.

xavier fielding competitive teams will definitely help the big east. we've been an embarassment

It's worth noting that Miami (Ohio) coach Megan Duffy has been hired by Marquette. Marquette loses five seniors this year and should take a step back, but they have been the top dog in the Big East the past couple of years. It is interesting that Duffy, a former All-American PG at Notre Dame who played in the WNBA, is a rising star in the coaching ranks (she's just 34 years old), and is a native of Dayton, ended up at Marquette. In fact, Duffy was the top assistant at Michigan until taking the Miami job two years ago. Coach Moore became Michigan's top assistant after she left.

Lots of drama (G Tech, UNC) in the WBB Coaching Carousel this year (link (https://highposthoops.com/2019/03/29/coach-tracker-coaching-carousel-womens-basketball-ncaa/)). Surprised Marquette let Kieger go but equally surprised the Marquette roster is not that strong.

I wish Coach Melanie Moore and her staff well. I think she's a very good hire. She has a positive energy and a great attitude, as does her staff. I know they've already been hard at work recruiting,
I won't lie though, she will have a difficult job.
In reflecting on the last 20 years of Xavier women's basketball, the program is at it's lowest point by far. The results on the court are dreadful, the schedule has become a total joke, and attendance is in the toilet. The program only averaged about 850 people per game (and the actual numbers are less when you take away field trip day). Any shred of momentum from the Melanie Balcomb/Kevin McGuff eras has been totally killed in the last 8 years.
I've gotta say that I have a new respect for what Balcomb and McGuff were able to accomplish.

The new hire has piqued my interest in attending a couple of games this year. Hopefully the team can capitalize on the momentum a bit.
