So I race from that game and make my tee time at Kapalua. Hold on, one more single to fill out the foursome. Our favorite ref from the game (I took the high road as I used to ump and know how hard it is to officiate) ... during the round he gets a text from one of his peers on how he blew the game for Xavier. If we win that game, and don't lose to San Diego St., it coulda shoulda woulda've been different. No excuses, as there are lots of coulda's woulda's in a season, but I thought this a good story to share.

Cool post, but two different teams by the end of the season in my opinion. One team has one of the finest coaches in college basketball and improved greatly as the season progressed in a really good conference. Our coach is gonna be a good one sooner than later in my opinion, but was learning on the job, and our team improved right along with him in an average conference. By watching the sweet 16 teams, it was obvious to me our coach and team have a long way to go. I believe with Steele's workhorse mentality, and having that energy and charisma at 37, we will see that gap close quickly. Possibly over one season. We return over 55 ppg, and I really like the guys we have coming back. I just hope whoever that 5th guy is that gets a lot of minutes can shoot from the outside consistently. Scruggs is honestly our only good shooter from 3, and he's streaky. Sure would be nice if Bolden transferred in and be our starting PG because he's that little floor general I like at point. Sorry I got off topic. 2nd cup of coffee.

Lol I believe Travis is gonna get it done quicker than I first thought. Especially if he gets a couple recruits that are still undecided. Guys like Garcia. Idk if he's decided yet. Also that point guard for Auburn is the kind I said X needs but you said that type doesn't fit in college basketball anymore dominated. Just wanted to remind you like with Tre. ;-)

I honestly dont have any idea what you are talking about. I never commented on the Auburn PG or any other type of PG. Maybe you have me confused with someone else.

If we win that game, we don't even play San Diego State. We would have played Duke. While it probably would have gotten ugly, I think our strength of schedule might have gone up a tick by playing Duke instead of SDSU.

Was it me or did it seem like when we played at a faster pace we played better.......Beat St Johns twice, played tough with Auburn. Beat Creighton 2 of 3. I don't know.......I think especially with guys who struggle as shooters, the faster the pace sometimes the better they play

I thought I either read or heard on the radio that as the season went on, Steele was slowing things down more, particularly when he had two bigs in the game at the same time.

Auburn just defeated Kansas, North Carolina & Kentucky. Very impressive. Have we ever defeated any of these schools? Have we EVEN played any of these schools other than Kentucky. I believe we've played Kentucky before I was born.

Off the top of my head:
Kansas crushed us in the NCAA tournament in the late '80s. They also crushed us in the Great Alaska Shootout during the Prosser years.
Xavier is undefeated versus North Carolina (1-0). I think the game was in the 1950's.

Pearl is also one of the biggest cheaters in the sport and I'm sure X could beat all those teams to if we had a couple of bag men.
Pearl is a horrible professional human being and hope Karma comes to him soon.

We’ve played Kentucky a bunch. We used to play them annually.

Yup.
According to the media guide:
Xavier is 2-37 versus UK (last played in 1968-69)
0-6 versus Kansas (last played 1999-00)
1-0 versus UNC (last played 1950-51)
I'm going to change my sceen name to XUOWNSUNC.

Auburn + Bruce Pearl = Who could possibly take this seriously?
I suppose he distracts everyone with all his hugging and crying. “But he cares so much for his kids...” What a joke.

That Kansas was a killer for me and was at X at the time. Gillen just led Xavier to one of our best record years in 1988 (26-4). What team we had - Larkin, Kimbrough, jumpin Jamal, Hill, and Strong. Kansas was completely destroying us by 25. X made a big comeback and got it down to 8 points with under 3 minutes. The guys just ran out of gas and lost by 13 to Danny Manning’s National Championship team.

Man that is a heck of a starting lineup. Larkin one of the great XU players and leading scorer, two bigs with long NBA careers, and Kimbrough who played a handful of games in the NBA over 2 or 3 years. Walker a very good player himself as well.

There has was a horrendous goaltend call that went against us that was massive and really cost us big time. Can't remember the exact moment as I haven't rewatched since then (I think under 2 minute in regulation? ) We got a tough break on that one.
