Man I love this team! Everyone had their moments and why I think this program has a great future. Can I give a team award? Even though today was rough, Scruggs is the guy and will take him over many on his grit alone.
Even though not a player, love Steele and what he’ll bring to our program!

Hankins and Naji
Naji too often qualified as LVP. Dude can be maddening to watch. Hopefully he gets more consistent next year and with age comes additional wisdom.

Amen, LOVE Naji when he doesn’t try to doo TOO much. Unfortunately, he too often does.

Love Hankins. His one year at X is going to make him a lot of money at the next level. Not sure that would happen if he played for someone else

Watched with two of my three brothers and the same question came up and we were all in agreement, without a doubt, Hanky McSpanky.
Not many players have given us one year and really make it count like he did.
(I'm sure my fourth brother would agree)

Good point! Let’s balance what he can make over 5-10 years playing somewhere in the world vs what a first NCAA round and out would mean.
(See how good I am at glass half full?)

Scruggs
Start to finish I go Scruggs.
Naji for the winning streak at the end of the season.
Hankins I would put second from start to finish after Scruggs.

Love this whole team in an odd year. But damn!! Wish we could have reached that NCAAT for Hankins. As previously mentioned, Scruggs has battled and fought in every game I've watched.
I think we are in good hands... but it's gong to be a long Summer.

Agree with Dwest.
At times, Scruggs was the only player who looked like he cared. He competed the whole year.
Hankins was fun, and worked his butt off. Would love if we kept his "raise the roof" thing going after dunks.
It's hard because we were best when Naji was the star, however he was only great during the run, thus he isn't this years MVP.
I think a lot of people forget that Marshall was only a sopmore this year. When he went off during the run, he was incredible. Look at some of his stat sheets. Hard to imagine that's a sophomore out there. Same goes for Scruggs.
Scruggs and Marshall both had insanely good sophomore seasons, imo. A heck of a lot to look forward to for us X fans.

Hankins (because he was most consistent) followed by Scruggs.
Note: Hankins finished the season with a .686 field goal percentage (162 for 236), which is the best single-season field goal percentage in Xavier history.

Hope the coach can find another McSpanky for next year, or the next four years.

It’s tough, but I’m going with the walk-on with all the crazy sideline cheering antics - Ramon Singh. He gave 110% for 40 minutes without any selfishness or bone-headed moves.

Tough call. No one was great for the entire year. First thought is Scruggs. Find it interesting that everyone is saying McSpanky, who I loved is well, but no one is saying Jones. Jones averaged 24.8 MPG, 11.3 PPG, 7.7 rebounds and had 29 blocks, while McSpanky averaged 21.9 MPG, 10.6 PPG, 5.3 and had 54 blocks. Nod definitely goes to McSpanky for the block was Jones was a better overall defender. I think the advantage goes very slightly to Jones over McSpanky. Naji can't be considered due to the humongous amount of turnovers and he shot less than 40% overall from the field.

I think people are probably picking Hankins over Jones despite Jones' better numbers because of how pleasantly surprised most of us were by how good he was for us in his lone year. That plus the ridiculous FG% and the blocks. But I agree Jones was a better overall defender and should be getting more love.

Scruggs at the top for sure. Hankins close second. Did not do as much as Scruggs, but I like his attitude. Jones close to Hankins. Jones was given much more opportunity and did about the same. Naj had the best games maybe, but did not show up some times. Difference between when Naj did not do much and Scruggs did not so much is that Scruggs always seemed to be trying hard. Couldn't say the same for Naj. Also, Naj was selfish sometimes. Goodin was disappointing. Castlin was a nice help. Would have liked to seen what Weilage would do if he was passed the ball more. He was wide open sometimes, but overlooked. I wonder why. Maybe because he did not work as hard to get open. I hope that is the reason. Hardin looks good sometimes. He was also sloppy with the ball though.

Have to go with Scruggs. Probably the most consistent player in an up and down year. Hope his competitiveness becomes infectious and flows through next year’s team.
Just want to point out (in case ths X players should ever read this thread) that while players had moments where they had hiccups (which is to be expected), every single player (who got enough time in a game at some point) stepped up and showed some greatness.
To that point, just about every one of the first 8 felt in a way like they got a share of an MVP for at least a game this season. That was a pretty cool thing to witness.
Jones was the MVP for X against Texas.
Pumped to see the returning players grow even more.
Happy we had the grad transfers we did.

Obviously Q.
Leader. 3rd in BE in assists per game. No wins without him.

Larkin made the point in the pregame show that X had 5 players averaging double figures, and that was both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it meant that an opponent couldn’t just concentrate on taking away 1-2 players. A curse because it meant that most of the time X needed all the players to have a good game in order to win, and that there wasn’t a “go to” player when X needed a basket to win a game.
Makes it hard to single out one player as the MVP. They were ALL valuable, and somewhat equally.
