View Full Version : 2019 NCAA Tournament

Yet that is the essence of the NCAAT.
IF Duke wins the whole thing, who will be thinking about that moment in the UCF game as Duke hoists the trophy.

Probably an unpopular opinion: This years Tournament sucks.
It's just not because Xavier isn't in there. Just bad matchups, too many blowouts, and underwhelming teams. There is no Cinderella. Gonzaga continually being in there pisses me off to no end because they just can't seem to lose their coach, and all the big schools are no draw for me. The officiating is horriffic too- even with no dog in the fight for me. Finally, the fact that the NCAA seems to be really trying to avoid punishing schools that have blatantly broke the rules for years makes me less inclined to be a viewer.
I'm in no way watching this tournament anywhere near as much as past years.

Texas Tech, a school with zero basketball history, is going to the Final Four...
They don't have a roster full of 4 and 5 star kids, but they play unreal defense, make their FT's, and take care of the ball.

He already makes a decent amount (~$3 million/yr). I would imagine TT will give him Chris Mack money though to deter offers from UCLA etc

I had no idea he was already over the 3 million amount. Good for him and I hope he stays at Texas Tech. I had forgotten he left UNlv after three weeks to go there.

And now the entire tri-state area is out of the Tournament.
All the schools and talent around here and it's a Texas, Virginia, Alabama and (probably) North Carolina Final 4. Prolly 2 ACC schools too.

Chuck Person will be cheering from the prison tv room. As for Duke, I guess Coach K's check to the officials didn't clear.

K is too smart to pay the officials directly. My guess is that it has been Nike all along and with the Avenatti scandal, someone forgot to this time.

Coach K spends a lot of money at the Wynn in LV every year. As a matter of fact, if form holds, he'll be making the rounds in the high limit rooms there this coming weekend. I suspect that Steve Wynn used to make the payments to the refs on his behalf, but with his #MeToo ouster from Wynn, those payments are no longer made. Only thing that makes sense (other than SM#24's equally plausible theory).

Foul call was fine. Missed double dribble was horrible. If Auburn hadn’t lost their best player against UNC, I think they win the tourney going away.
I texted my buddies in real time...wasn’t that a double dribble. Didn’t hear anything more about it until after the game. Tough way to lose a Final Four game. Kind of like calling pass interference in the end zone on a last second Hail Mary.

The neighbors may have heard my (former PG) son on the no-call double dribble. He thinks he should be reffing the Final Four after that. I’m not sure he’s wrong. Auburn was slightly less screwed on the way to the big game than the Saints. Get an obvious call right, and they advance.

Of note, Texas Tech has made the National Championship without ANY 5-star recruits. In fact almost are 3-star recruits.
On another note I hope our current team takes note of the unselfish play and emphasis on defense.

This is interesting. Xavier was actually rated higher than Texas Tech assisting on baskets and they have a very similar turnover rate. I think Xavier figured out the defense thing too late. Where they are really different is that Texas Tech has knock down shooters that can also play defense.

Too bad the ref who called the UA foul at the end of the game last night didn't do the XU-Villanova game in the Big East tournament. Moving under a shooter is always a foul. It was the correct call last night, and it should have been called on Nova in the Beast tournament game.

I think I actually got that Auburn link from you!
My roommate at the time was at the Kentucky v LSU football game. He was not happy. I've got a list of memorable sporting events that I could have been at, but passed on going to. This game is certainly on that list. No one has had the chance to be at more big time crazy finish sporting events and missed out on going than I have. Then again, had I gone to this game, LSU would have won 42-10 simply because I was there and we'd have left before it was over.

Yeah but for some reason, the refs have really favored Virginia this tournament...I dont know if they felt sorry for them for what happened last year or what.
I know it usually takes a few breaks here or there to win a championship, but the "lucky" things that happened to Virginia since Purdue has been pretty unbelievable.

Virginia was consistently one of the best teams all year with one of the best players in college/likely lottery pick on their team. Flame outs happen, they bounced back quite nicely! They had some luck for sure but I feel they earned their wins.

Not going to dispute they were one of the best teams all year but not sure I agree with you that they earned their wins. The refs gave them the game against Auburn, and they got beyind helped out last night. Yeah I'm a little butthurt about them winning, because I think they set basketball back about 50 years, but to me they at the least didnt earn the Auburn game.
Regardless, I'm ready for xavier to be back next year, because not being in the tourney sucks.
