No surprise. He was 28-80 in Big East play and 76-108 overall.

Like you said, not surprising. Interested to see how the search goes.

Wonder if melanie balcomb as any interest in coming back to coach in the big eastI think that ship has sailed for good. Besides, she didn't do so hot at Vanderbilt, even with good talent.

Best wishes to Brian. There IS young talent on the team and I wish them the best in the process as well.
I stopped by the WBB Big East Tourney today at WinTrust. Not much of a crowd in today's game (G'town beat Nova) - but the Big East does try to put on a professionally run tournament.

Candidate to consider:
PATRICK KLEIN - assistant coach at The Ohio State University.

Speaking of Patrick Klein, here's some interesting reading:

Need better recruiting if Xavier wants to compete in the Big East. Been season ticket holder for 3 seasons and six pack before that for a few seasons. Some of the players he recruited were not Big East caliber players. His offense struggled at times and he had some bizarre substitution patterns. His record speaks for itself. The Chris Mack thing last year bought him another year but it was time.

I have no idea if there is anyone meeting the criteria on these staffs, but it seems like you'd start by looking at the top assistants at Notre Dame, Louisville and maybe Kentucky. Top national programs that have sustained excellence for a while and are in the region.
If you want a head coach, a friend of ours has a daughter playing at Drake. They've been awesome for the last three years and are currently ranked #21. They're losing a lot of seniors, so their coach may be looking to move. They've had nothing but good things to say about the coach.

Several head coaches in the MAC are worthy of a look. Coaches at Ohio, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo, just to name a few in-state, would be a good place to start.
Brian Neal's teams were constantly "young" because of the number of players who quietly left before exhausting their eligibility. I noticed Imani Partlow in the box score for Wright State in the Horizon League championship yesterday, for one.

For a "shot in the dark" selection, one might suggest Jeff Hans, the 7-year head coach of the D-3 Thomas More Saints Women's team. Over that span of time, not counting a season that was set aside, he's an unbelievable 205-11 overall and 107-1 in Conference play!!! He has won the D-3 NCAA Championship once and carried his team to the Final 4 twice more (one of them being this year --- with his Saints playing in the semi-finals this Friday).
Obviously the man can coach. The question is: can he recruit on the Division 1 level? His teams have usually been recruited from the three states nearest Thomas More: Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. One would think he would have a significantly larger recruiting budget at Xavier than he's had at Thomas More.
Just a thought!

Brian Neal was the guy at Thomas More right before Jeff Hans. Not saying you'd get the exact same results, but it seems like we've already tried that path.
