I didn't pay much attention to their preseason, what were their expectations for this season? They've had to have met them or exceeded them right?

They were picked 11th in the acc, they will finish 7th or 8th. They "exceeded" expectations but I think there was a serious issue with the expectations. There is quite a bit of talent on that team, and louisville fans, media, etc acted as if the team had the talent level of a high school team. Part of that may be due to the fact Padgett coached them last year which though he is a good guy, can't coach himself out of a paper bag.

Mack holds the record for wins as a Xavier coach. I don't follow him so much, like I don't know who UL plays next at all. But I do root for him.
I would like him to do well. In the tournament, I will root for him, like I root for Sean Miller, if we are not playing.
I would like to induct Chris Mack in the Xavier Hall of Fame. He is our winningest coach. I would like to do that at halftime of a Home and Home against Louisville. I think if Mack came back he would get a standing ovation, and he would deserve it. They won't play us a home and home, but if they did we should welcome him and induct him into our Hall of Fame. It would be a great night, and a great preseason matchup. Louisville fans would love the game down there, and we would have quite a hot ticket for the game up here.
If Mack agrees to play us it would be huge, and if he is big enough to do that than everyone should bury the hatchet. I would welcome him back into our Hall of Fame. I would stand and applaud when he was announced on the court. Give the gentleman some respect.

I think you are holding back a bit. Please tell me how you really feel....
Okay let’s welcome him back, but not until Travis passes him as the all time winningest coach and gets X to a Final 4 and then wins a National Championship. By that time, we can show appreciation to the man who left X for a big fat pay check (forgivable) and then chose to make X sound like a place where getting to a Final 4 is an impossibility (unforgivable)... when the truth is he was simply incapable of doing it.
Yes let’s celebrate Mack, but first let’s see him eat a little crow. I just want him to know X’s limitations are directly related to the abilities of the head coach. I want him to come back to see that his assistant who took over for him in fact proved to have a higher ceiling than him. That X has a higher ceiling than he would have others believe.
Yes... I am all for inviting Mack back after X has won a National Championship and Louisville has yet to get past an elite 8 with him at the helm coaching those kind of “recruits he REALLY wanted when he was at X but was never able to land.”
Yes, we first win the national championship and then we welcome back our old back-stabbing coach. We sincerely thank him for some of the things he was able to accomplish while at X (like winning the BE regular season and getting to another elite 8) and then Fr. Graham (or whomever is the President at that time) can grab him and kiss him on the lips (like Michael did to Fredo) and tell him “You broke our hearts... the way you disrespected XU and its basketball brand when you left, cowardly making X look inferior just so you could look better to the Louisville faithful...Chris, you are nothing to us now.”
Yeah... that would work for me.

Yeah, UL wasnt supposed to have much of anything this year. So fans "growing weary" is a bit dramatic don't you think? Mack is going to get at least 3 years and he has a great recruiting class coming in.

Growing weary doesn't mean they want him gone right now. It just means that the honeymoon phase is over, and fans are going to be a bit more critical. If you're good enough to beat MSU, have a 23 point lead against Duke, a ten point lead against UVA, dominate UNC in Chapel Hill, the expectations get raised a bit. And losing 5 of 7 shouldn't happen, in the fanbase's eyes.

In a year they were picked preseason 11 in AAC? Damn. That’s impressive. Before the 5 of 7 streak, I saw some Cbb guys on twitter say Mack deserves to be in conversation for coach of they year.
I agree with Snipe. HOF and sooner the better. Best coach in Xavier history (hope Steele passes him). Two of the greatest seasons of all time. First 1 seed and first big east championship. An easy top 10 program snagged him. If Steele eventually left for a top 10 program I’d be thrilled.

I mean, this is kinda true...but on the other hand Louisville has essentially had three head basketball coaches since WWII. One guy got forced out AFTER 30 YEARS, and another guy didn't get canned until after his THIRD embarrassing scandal. So, yeah, there's pressure there, but it's not like Louisville churns coaches.
Mack who?
Exactly.
Too bad he couldn’’t just take the money and leave with it and simple gratitude. Nope, he had to then go and act like a big shot in front of his new friends by making his old ones seem smaller.
Ben Folds wrote a song about people like him.
”Make me tiny if it makes you feel tall, but there’s always someone cooler than you. Yeah you're the SH!+ but you won’t be for long, cause there’s always someone cooler than you.”

True but both were HOF coaches and won national championships. Will be interesting to see how they react to Mack after 3-5 years if they haven't made a FF or Elite 8. Maybe more leeway if they get hit with post season ban.

Do the poor fools that follow VD realize how inconsequential VD has become. Full bloom mid-major status in a sadly watered down A10 that will probably never find its way beyond 3 bids a year again, and spending most of a season the way they're all spending it over there now: wondering if they can squeeze more than one bid out for that league.
Imagine that. Imagine being stuck in that toilet. One bid. Hell, call it 2 or occasionally 3 bids split among 14 - FOURTEEN - teams with zero in the way of having an attractive TV package. Imagine having to go forward like that in this modern era.
Seriously, this is where the delusion comes from. It's a cocktail mixed of long (now) past success, blended with a goofy looking building ('69, what do you expect out of the Mod Squad and Laugh-In era) that received recent lipstick, and a bunch of aging out people with nothing better to do in Dayton but to go watch VD play Fordham and LossSalle.
If I had to guess, I imagine a lot of their fanbase is comfortable being in the A10, because it is an obvious easier route to wins. But yet they cannot even seem to dominate the A10 when it is a shell of its former self.

Yeah with you on this one, there's no reason to stay in the Valley if the AAC is calling, Marshall is damn good at what he does, and he gets a lot out out of lesser-heralded recruits. Though it's a bad season, I don't see them being bad for long. He has a good coaching pedigree to attract talent, a lot of teams have rebuilding years. There is getting to be lots of heat on Archie. Knight ruined IU for eternity. Their fans want to win big, and with the " right kind of player", which Coach Bob always had. ie. Rural white kid, no tats, or black kids who knew their place. Who would put up with getting hit, abused, and treated like IU was Full Metal Jacket. Plus they consider themselves a blueblood, and that ship sailed a long time ago. Fortunately for Archie, they are paying prior football coaches, and don't want to eat his contract. But their fans are not happy.

It was a sarcastic statement to be fair, but a .500 record through almost 2 complete years is not good. I do think he's a solid coach, and has potential to win at Indiana, the thing is IU fans just need to get off their high horse. That obviously isn't going to happen, but those days of "rural white kids, no tats, etc." is not going to fly in the era that we live in. I agree that Bob Knight has made it tough for any coach to follow up at IU, they have a magical arena, it's just the fact that there's a larger recruiting presence in Indiana as well, they aren't always going to get the top kids in Indiana, I think he'll get another year no matter what, but he's going to have to show some serious improvement, or his seat is going to be very very hot.

They haven't hired a single coach who has won over 60% of his games since bob knight. The Bob Knight model might be the ideal for some of them, but i'm sure they'd just settle for someone that could help them contend for the big ten title. We'd have to go back to bob staak for the last coach to win fewer than 60% of his games. I can understand that frustration. On the other hand, I'm perfectly fine with them never coming back and us absorbing their five star recruits.

They actually aren't paying prior football coaches - Kevin Wilson settled for far less than his buyout (probably because he is a scumbag). Archie will get it rolling there - take a look at recruiting, especially if he locks up Keion Brooks in the 2019 class.

It sure does feel better having a coach who is 1 and 1 against Nova and Wright, as opposed to a coach who won 1 and lost like 9 or 11 or whatever embarrassing number it was.
In fairness, most of the Nova teams Mack coached against were elite: Two of them won a National Championship... and more were #1 seeds in the tournament.
On the other hand, I think Depaul is the only BE team that lost more games to Nova during Chris Mack’s tenure. Pretty sad.

On the other hand, I think Depaul is the only BE team that lost more games to Nova during Chris Mack’s tenure. Pretty sad.
Well it's also the fact that Steele got it done @Providence and @Seton Hall too, these are promising signs. I definitely feel like Steele has the potential to get this ball rolling well, and I didn't a couple weeks ago. I still think we'll see some more growing pains throughout the first few years, but you have to admit it's promising to go ahead and beat Nova. I understand they lost a lot and aren't the team of years past, but there's still some great talent on that roster. There's definitely Nova teams that Mack should have beat with the talent that was at X, but interesting discussion none the less.

Mack will return to the Cintas Center........................as a TV analyst.
Steele has to pick up his game if he wants to be the next IU coach.

Perhaps they'll do a three person crew for one of our games, and he can join Pete Gillen on the call. That would be pretty sweet.

There's a large part of my heart hoping that we get into the NCAA Tournament, and get a chance to match up with Louisville and beat the living shit out of Mack. My heart would be incredibly happy.
